It was my last journey before moving to Spain, and instead of saving money for that, I decided to spend it all on that journey. The route included a quick tour of Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. We were six friends from different countries who met each other a year before in a summer school in Madrid. I have to say that to us, the region seemed a bit exotic even though half of us belonged to the ‘Eastern European bloc’. And while people were beginning to explore Romania, Moldova, and to a lesser extent Ukraine, were not that touristic. I heard many stories about the region, one of them that it was rather poor. Well that was partially true. While Kiev looked like a city booming with business, Lviv did appear to us like a place ... read more

There is even more to see within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone possibly even more exotic than Reactor No. 4 and Pripyat. Unexpectedly, Igor took us to Chernobyl 2 the last of three huge (humongous, gigantic, massive) Soviet radar receiver antennas – the one that looked for United States’ missile attacks during the Cold War. On Soviet maps it was marked as a children’s summer camp Driving along the narrow road Igor said that there was a Jurassic Park fence ahead. Through the pine forest we could see it a vertical mesh of metal and wires 150 meters tall stretching 500 meters wide it was impossible to fathom its size We drove to a check point and parked walking up a rutted dirt road approaching, it was difficult to put the size of the antenna into perspective ... read more

There are thousand articles, stories and posts about this topic, there are a lot of opinions, photos and speculations about this… It is not a historical interpretation or the true evidences, there are plenty of them can be found, it is some memory article after one year has passed and still there is pain in me that lives, because I am part of this…part of my Ukraine! I can not be proud of active participation in Maidan on 22 of November as well as in bloody Thursday in February, but I was there… with all my heart and my soul, with all my “crazy” friend and relatives standing there, in the heart of hell… And still now, for me, Maidan is going on, it has not ended, he is alive … But even now, I am ... read more

My loving Kyiv – full of beautiful parks, sightseeings, nice restaurants, happy people and a lot of “must do” and “must see” activities. But! All of these seem to be ordinary if your soul is searching for adventure. Autumn time… There is still a summer smell in the air, but ebbing from day to day and you try to catch the last sun rays of that season, wearing a comfortable shoes, taking camera and going to play a quest along this yellow-green Kyiv streets. It is not necessary to go to museums and galleries for looking some pieces of art, if you know streets, thay are near, under the sky and absolutely free! I hasten to share my sculptural Kyiv... "Unburned Match" (Author Vladimir Belokon', Artema Str., 37-41) The main idea of this sculpture is to ... read more

I consider Lviv to be the most beautiful city in Ukraine that reflects the true Europenean approach to minor details in every corner of its old and cozy streets where one can find the spirit of past times and the feeling of endless freedom. It is my 10th visit to Lviv with the target of revealing something new and unknown. For thouse searching some unhidden places this is my story-tour plan. 1. The city of Lions gastro tour – there are plenty of restaurants but my last visit has shown that most of well-known restaurants (I do not want to mention them) switched to purely touristic objects and lost this customized approach in cuisine. Searching something new “from heart and with soul”, I found some “warm” cafe “Shtuka” (Kotlyarevskogo Str.8), that represents the austro-hungrian times and ... read more
