So we arrived in Linkoping yesterday and wasted no time! We went right to campus where I got the key to my apartment and instructions on how to get things started here. There is a lot to know! The good news is the building I live in is incredibly close to the grocery store and convenience store and place I can pay bills. Thank goodness for that! Also a bus stop is right out front We unpacked everything in my room and got things sorted out right away. I stayed over at the hotel last night with Aunt G because I didnt have proper bedding and it's actually quite cold here already! Lessons I've Learned..... -I ordered panzerrotti for dinner at a restaurant and we learned that it is much different here. Their version is actually ... read more

Tjena bloggers, I have now started work at the hospital and am really enjoying. I am working on the stroke and neurology wards so lots of learning to do, it seems never ending. I went to listen to a neurology lecture a couple of weeks ago by a top researcher from America. As I guessed it all went way over my head but it was worth going if only because his name was 'Bud'- nice. Its a bit challenge trying to communiate with patients but I haven't killed anyone so thats a positive. We mainly try and find english speaking patients for me, which tend to be the younger ones so it works out ok. I was chuffed yesterday because one of the patients gave me a present (mug and tea for the British tea addict) ... read more

I have just returned from my first trip to Systembolaget. This is the state run off-license chain that is the only shop allowed to sell alcohol above 3.5% (apart from pubs and restaraunts). It is the only one in the city and closes at 3pm so when I got there at 2pm there was a massive queue outside. ONce I'd got nside and found my conservative 4 cans of Kopperberg and started queing at the till, I had my first meeting with a genuine Swedish alcoholic. He started to tell me how his generation weren't like the youth of today when it came to drinking. By the smell of his breath, he drinks enough for his whole school class. He continued by pointing out to me the irony of the government paying out generous payments to ... read more

I arrived in Stockholm airport at about 3pm in the afternoon still reeling from a hangover and feeling woefully underprepared. Discovering that duty-free within the EU was a thing of the past only worsened my mood to the point where I considered getting my head down for the night at the airport. Things began to pick up when my mobile phone magically came to life long enough to contact my 'peer student' Pontus. He picked up my flat keys and arranged to pick me up at the trainstation in Linkoping. My train arrived bang on time as expected. I wasn't expecting it to have 2 decks though (as in floors, not turntables) - my horizons were expanding only an hour into the trip. Pontus took me by bus to my room. Not what I was expecting ... read more

Yesterday we went horse riding with my friend Hanna. She has a lot of horses - last time she counted there were just over 60. Enrico rode a horse for the second time in his life and all went well. The glorious weather has ended. It's now rather chilly and there are threatening rain clouds in the sky. More like normal Swedish summer actually. But hey, we had a fantastic week in the sun! I even managed to get a bit of a tan. Well, my arms and and my face are nice and golden brown at least. My legs are usually a milky white bordering on blue, and they have now turned... well, beige. It counts as a tan, it really does. Enrico with his dark mediterranean skin managed to get a bit of a ... read more

Yay, so on thursday i jumped on the trainline and made a weird and in places wonderful trip to a place called Linköping, which is pronounced Lin-Shore-ping, which i found out when asked by the train conductor and confusing her by saying lin-co-ping, or whatever i said, hehehe. It was a bit of a trek, almost three hours on the train, and i still cant find where i was on any maps, though i havent really looked that hard, i have a feeling its kinda south south west of stockholm, a bit, and the place was as far as i could tell kinda boring. There was a really big church though, that it seemed you could see the steeple from wherever you were, which made a good point of reference for when i got lost. I ... read more

Hello everyone, I'm currently in Linköping, Sweden. I came here to visit my old friend from Sudbury - Fredrik. I am leaving tomorrow for Copenhagen, Denmark. I only stayed here for a week, which is a fair amount of time, and I have to let Fred do his school work - we don't want him to fail do we! I arrived in Stockholm, Sweden on September 4th. Unfortunately, after a decent plane ride, my ears didn't pop, I really don't like that, it annoys the hell out of me. I took the Arlanda Express to Stockholm, it takes about 20min from the airport. Then I had to find this damn hostel, which is on a boat. After walking around (with all of my shit) for an hour, I finally spotted it - thank god it's red. ... read more
