Background: Spain's powerful world empire of the 16th and 17th centuries ultimately yielded command of the seas to England. Spain remained neutral in World Wars I and II, but suffered through a devastating civil war (1936-39). In the second half of the 20th century, Spain has played a catch-up role in the western international community; it joined the EU in 1986. Continuing challenges include Basque Fatherland and Liberty (ETA) terrorism and further reductions in unemployment.

I ended up going to the beach! The Valencia beach was so gorgeous with this fine fine sand. The only problem with fine sand is that if there is any wind (which there was) and you're wearing sunscreen (which I was) you end up with a lot of sand on you. I had sand absolutely everywhere! But it was so nice! After that I organized my things for the airplane. I find I need to give myself sometime to go through my things once and awhile just to concentrate them down to one package. DAY 46 I finally arrived at my hostel at 7pm without managing to get lost even with my complicated directions! I was quiet pleased with myself, maybe my sense of direction was improving………………….. I packed up my things from Barcelona yesterday and headed to the bus station. The earliest bus was a 'supra' bus (like higher class). It was only five more € so instead of waiting around for two more hours, I decided to indulge myself! The seats were luxurious, and we got a gift bag filled with goodies. When I got into Valencia I went about with errands - supermarket, lunch and laundry. Insgesamt gibt es mehrer Universitäten bzw. mehrer Standorte und sehr viele verschiedene Fakultäten (92)und 16 Forschungsinstitute. Jede Fakultät besitzt ein eigenes Gebäude. Insgesamt studieren an der Universität Valencia 45.000 Studenten! Unvorstellbar für jemand der aus Bad Gleichenberg mit ca. 200-300 Stundenten kommt. Die Universität besteht seit ca. 1500. Während der Belagerung und Bombardierung im Jahre 1800 wurden die Universitätsgebäude teilweise erheblichen beschädigt und später wurde die Universität verstaatlicht. Ich wohne in dieser Wohnung seit Februar und fühle mich sehr wohl. Mein Zimmer ist groß und hell. Der einzige Nachteil es liegt an der Straße, in welche es sehr viele Lokale gibt. Somit habe ich mich noch schneller an die spanische Mentalität gewöhnt und gehe nicht vor 1-2 Uhr in der Früh ins Bett. Ich glaube, dass wird eine der größten Umstellungen wenn ich wieder zuhause bin. Auch das Wohnen ist anders, um 3 Uhr in der Früh Film wie im Kino ansehen, kein Problem. The weather is gorgeous here right now! Last week I woke up to be at the beach by 10:30am to meet up with some of my friends. It was already 73 degrees at that time and it only got warmer all day. The beach was filled with people. My friend Morgan and I had a class at 3:00pm that I we planned on going to but when 2:00pm came we weren't ready to leave; we skipped class to stay at the beach. 29 April 2009 After so many sea days, with a whole day between Tenerife and Agadir, it was surprising how rushed we feel to have Malaga, Valencia and Barcelona fall on consecutive days. It was especially so because we had scheduled tour to the Alhambra palaces above Granada, Spain, which took the whole of the day while we were docked at Malaga. I am living in the most beautiful city I have ever seen and I have nearly the entire month of April to explore all of it! The weather is wonderful. Hey everyone! This is my first entry for the 2009 Travel Blog- I've been in Valencia, Spain now for 2 months- Time has flown by! Spain is very different from the U.S.A. and it's taken a bit of adjusting to get use to it. Everything closes for two-three hours in the middle of the day (siesta) but stays open much later.
