Lisbon to Barcelona - Day 4. Leaving Lisbon for Barcelona with a smooth flight and in business class. Now that's nice way to travel. Here's the wierd thing.... checking baggage would cost $100.00 - while an upgrade to first class costs..... Yep $100.00 AND you get a light meal and all of the drinks you want. Out of 6 seats there were only 3 of us??? (one guy even tried to sneak into the first class area) We found our hotel in the Gothic Quarter around the corner from the Cathedral of Barcelona. This building was raised in the 13th century but they were using it as a religious center from 343 AD. The roof is under renovation so I had a chance to go up and get pictures from the metal walkway of the top ... read more

Barcelona...so many souvenirs...even if my first visit was back in 1993 and my last one in 1996! The city has changed a lot, and it is also a first visit for Tanya! For my first visit, it was back to student time. I was the vice-president of a European student association...and we knew how to get "subsides" to organize conferences with other young European students. Trust me, even if on a budget, that was a party...and not only in Spain! Next was in 1996, baby-sitting a group of American tourists as a student job to cross Europe by bus. I had to pick them up in Barcelona. My boss told me he had a little surprise for me...just to find out when they landed, that they were hard-core Seven Days Adventists! How to make sure you ... read more

Living in Europe is still a novelty, so many countries on our doorstep, Murray and I managed a weekend in Barcelona. I didn't know much about Barcelona before I went, except it is a place people recommended. We stayed in the old town, which was fabulous! We walked and walked, which I loved. We shopped and ate, the food was amazing!! Something I didn't expect, is Murray and I fell in love with the Gaudi architecture around Barcelona town. An amazing weekend away, nice to have time to relax and just be. Special thanks to the Findlay's for watching our 3 kiddies.... read more

Zacina prudke stupanie uzkymi ulickami. Ludi zatial nikde, slniecko pekne pecie. Konecne teplo. Dostavam sa na vyhliadku nad mirador virolai. Neskutocny vyhlad na celu barcelonu. Zacina zostup parkom, roznymi pekne upravenymi chodnickami sa dostavam k Tres Creus. Tu zacina relax pod krizom. Sem tam sa na chodniku objavi neaky ten umelec, pri vstupe do gauidiho komplexu uz dost ludi a dost cirnych hub co tu predavaju suveniry. Komplex si omrknem len z parku, vyzera to ... read more

No neda si povedat, google maps ukazuju jasne. V okoli uz kopa ludi, odhadujem tam 75 percent turistov z toho asi 50 percent aziatov. Vyzdvihujeme jej kamosku, starsia cinanka. Zastavka v mega fanshope, ktory natrieskany roznymi blbostami a ludmi co to vsetko kupovali ... read more

November 24-27th Barcelona, Spain Our final stop on our European trip is Barcelona. It has been much in the news lately with Catalonia independence movements and terrorists but when we arrived all was calm and quiet and amazing. I'm sure the news makes it sound like all hell is breaking loose, but to the vast majority life goes on as usual. Like most big cities we've visited on this trip, there is a greater police presence than ever before due to the terrorist goings on. Armed police were in airports, important squares and landmarks and entrances were blocked by vehicles to prevent entry. It was quite impressive to see the French, Portuguese and Spanish police and, at the same time, it was thought-provoking. After our short flight from Palma, our prebooked shuttle brought us to the ... read more

Saturday was a roller coaster ride. We were headed to the train station for the trip to the festival in Zaragoza. This involved a bus ride, metro ride, and the train ride. When we got to the train, I realized that my phone was missing. Pete....I know exactly how you feel. Pete is a friend of mine who had traveled to Spain in the 2 weeks before we left. His phone was stolen as well. All in all, the only thing I am out is the pictures. Later that day, Kathy and I had food at the festival and unfortunately (and unknowingly), we had a lunch that cost us 40 euros (ouch!!!). Then to add insult to injury, on the way home we purchased metro tickets and I left my credit card in the machine. By ... read more

Gibraltar and Barcelona Yesterday, while having breakfast, I happened to look out the window and I saw land. We had come from Lisbon the night before and were returning to the Mediterranean from the Atlantic Sea. When I saw land, I quickly thought about the side of the ship I was on and figured the land was Africa, Morocco in fact. Sooooo, if Africa is on the starboard side of the ship, Europe must be on the port side. The one part of the coastline I particularly wanted to see was Gibraltar. The Strait of Gibraltar is only 14 km wide, and they say that on a clear day, Europe can see Africa and visa versa. If that’s the case and I am on a ship between the two, I must get a better view than ... read more

Soooo!!!! We were sleeping peacefully when Kathy got up and said, "Its time to get up...times a-wastin'!. So she makes coffee and I get up and start through my morning routine. After much noise and beeping in the kitchen, she gives me a cup of coffee and we start to get dressed, I put on my watch and just happened to look at the time. IT WAS 1:15AM. I look at Kathy and ask "What time do you think it is dear?" She said, "Its 6:30am and time to get up and get started." I say, "No dear, its 1:15am." She says, "No way!" I say, "Lets go back to bed, we have all day. We don't need to get up at 1:15 in the morning." After some discussions on the technical side about how cell ... read more
