Zoe Today is the last day in Barcelona We are really starting to get into Spanish time. At 11 o'clock we had breakfast. At a really nice bakery across the road. I had a croissant with chocolate filling, not really a healthy breakfast, but we're on holidays. After breakfast we went to Camp Nou and if you don't know what the is it is the soccer stadium for FCB (Football Club Barcelona). We went there for a early birthday present for my dad's 50th. Yes! He is almost 5o. On the 19th of September 1967, Dean Yates was born. Anyway, there were no soccer matches on and when there are no matches on they open up the stadium for the public, there is also a museum. At the museum there were all the trophies the Barcelona ... read more

Zoe "Everything you can image is real" -Picasso It's Franziska's last full day in Barcelona, so we want to make it fun for her. First we went to Museu Picasso. Which has lots of Picasso's paintings in it. Does anyone know what Picasso's full name is and how many words it is? If you want to find out keep reading until the end. Bella and I had kids headphones on. This helped us understand more about the painting and what's the story behind them. Mum (Kym) also had headphones but hers were for the adults. Next to the paintings there was a little sign, one would have headphones and a number in it and below it was headphones with a face and a number next to it. The one with a face indicated that it was ... read more

Day 7 Bella We started the day with dad going to the bakery on our street and bring home croissants with chocolate sprinkles on top. We Walked to the Olympic park and I was in charge of the map and fortunately I got us the right way. There were names of Olympic people, shoutout to Sasha because Roger Federer was there! We Came back to the apartment said bye to Franziska, we were all really sad and we waved good bye to her from our balcony. Because we don't have a car, we use the train to get everywhere so we got it to lunch. We Caught the funicular train to the cable car place and went on a hill where there was a massive castle and fort with an art exhibition in it on white ... read more

An uber ride to the airport and we are off to Spain. Kathy and I travel to Chicago and from there its a direct flight to Barcelona. We arrived at 1:30pm local Barcelona time. Until then, we were at the mercy of American Airways. It was a good trip but not quite as good as Delta. I must have gained 5 lbs on the trip to Ireland and back. As it turned out, the food was good but we both were tired and tried to get some sleep. Unforturnately, I didn't get much satisfaction and when we arrived, I was one tired puppy. We grabbed the Aerobus from the airport to the Plaza De Espanya and from there it was a 3 minute walk to our first AirB&B. Once again Kathy has proven her lodging skills ... read more

Day 5 By Bella I woke up early in our apartment in Barcelona. Everyone else was asleep so I snuck in some technology time on my ipad till everyone woke up. We didn't really have breakfast we just had some bread then we put on our bathers and caught a bus to the beach. There was a little food place there so we had brunch. We were at the beach for about 3 or 4 hours. I had heaps of fun in the water with dad and Zoe. There were sharp rocks under our feet in the water. I had fun going over the waves. The beach in Spain is different because there are people with no tops on. Then we went to another little place for ice cream. It was so delicious, it had so ... read more

Zoe Today we took a train into Barcelona. We arrived at the train station and it was beautiful. There was greenery everywhere. It was really fast and took 3 hours. It travelled at over 200 kilometers per hour. There was a beautiful view of the lovely country side. It was a very lovely train. When we arrived in Barcelona and took a cab to our apartment. It is very nice and here is an amazing view of the city. It is also walking distance to the metro. Mum and dad (Kym and Dean) have a double bed. Bella has a single bed and made Franziska and I share a double bed, but in Austria we did the same so I don't mind. After that went to the park and had a run around. Then mum said ... read more

While travelling out to Montserrat this morning I was thinking that I will probably have to start another blog with an apology if it was half as picturesque and interesting as we had been led to believe. I then thought "is it ok to apologise and not change?" All this to say ... no apology!!! We travelled by bus to the "rack railway" - see photos for why it is called that - up to Montserrat and all it has to offer. As you are probably aware, it is known for a number of things including the spectacular mountain range (Montserrat means jagged mountain), the Basilica (first referenced in 888) the "Black Madonna" and the natural park which is a drawcard for rock climbers for obvious reasons. There are also 59 Benedictine monks who live in ... read more

Hola everyone, we certainly hope you aren't sick of the blogs but there is just so much to see and, selfishly, it is good for us to keep a record of our wonderful holiday. This is serving as a warning that today has been another full day so ... time to get a drink or hit delete! This time we went on a walking tour around the different districts of Barcelona - the Gothic quarter, Jewish quarter, the old city and El Ravel to name but a few. The good news is that we saw so much that it all became a bit confusing so the detail will be minimal. The highlight of the day, apart from a fabulous Catalonian meal was a visit to the Iberian Jamon Museum after the tour. As an aside Mike ... read more

Oh my goodness there is SO much to see and so much history but don't worry we aren't even going to try to cover all that we saw yesterday. The fact that we have fabulous wi fi and a blog didn't appear says it all - it was a big day. Also I have never depleted my phone (camera) battery totally in one day!! The Hop on Hop off bus was excellent but we decided to do both runs back to back which covered everything from the old town to the beach to the new town and ALL in between. Upon reflection we should have had a break because we were in overload after 4.5 hours!! For me the most striking thing was the modern architecture slap bang alongside something old and significant which is not ... read more

Yes it was - as amazing as we expected - actually exceeded our expectations. Gaudi, who was a very religious man, attending church on the way to and from work, regarded La Sagrada Familia as his greatest work. He always knew he wouldn't live to see it finished so drew up plans and made plaster models of his ideas. Unfortunately a fire destroyed his workshop and all the plans and damaged some of the models. Others have painstakingly recreated his ideas as close to what they believe he would have wanted as possible. Currently the goal is for the Basilica to be completed by 2026 - the centenary of Gaudi's death. One of the photos shows the work done and the work yet to be completed, what do you think of their chances of completion in ... read more
