La suite demain bye bye!... read more

Avila's another city with massive Roman walls - these ones even higher than the ones in Lugo, although here they charge you to go up on the walls, and only allow a section of the walls to be climbed. It circles the old city, and in here is also the Convento de Santa Teresa - and in the Sala de Reliquia is an exhibit of St. Teresa's relics include a finger from her right hand!!! We stopped at Avila again at night on the way back from Salamanca to look at the walls from the Mirador. It was here that Laura and I walked up to the wrong car (we rented one for the trip), until David stopped us right before we opened the car doors, because he noticed the driver looking absolutely aghast that these ... read more

Took the early train (8:30am) from San Sebastian to Avila. The train wasn´t as nice as the one from Barcelona... no tray table or reclining seats, but it still had movies and a cafeteria. Arrived in Avila about 1:30pm and decided to walk to the hostal in the old city, about a mile or so. Didn´t have much trouble finding the hostal, Hostal Bellas. The hostal is very nice, although again, no internet available. Just been remodeled and our room was pretty and spacious, with our own bathroom/shower, and twin beds ( :( ). Took a nice stroll in the afternoon along the top of the wall, with some beautiful views. The Avila was is the oldest complete wall in Spain and I think even Europe. We have to see it from outside at night when ... read more

Hey guys! I know that yall are getting excited for school to be out! Time goes by so fast!!! Let me know the exact date that yall are done with school! Have you gone on all of your field trips yet (to the baseball game, the park, etc)? How was that? That would have been fun to have been there to go with you all! Tomorrow is my last day in Avila. I'm leaving in the evening to go to Madrid and then I'm traveling for about 3.5 weeks! Some of my really good friends are coming over in a little over a week! I'm really looking forward to seeing familiar faces! I'll be sure to update as often as I can while I am traveling, but I cannot guarantee that I will be able to ... read more

* * * http://community.webshots.com/album/549858979RyYQAo * * * (I added pics from this week at school and my adorable kids!:) ) Hey yall! I can't believe that I'm about to leave Avila. When I think back, it seems like its gone soooo fast, 2 months, but it also seems like I started here such a long time ago. I'm definitely ready to be done with teaching, even though I'm really going to miss some of the kids. It's just time to move on again with life, you know? I'm really excited for what I have coming up over the next month. I'm leaving for Madrid tomorrow with Rachel, then its off to Granada (ahh, I'm sooo excited for this), Cordoba, and Marbella (a beautiful beach place). THEN Matt, his sister Beth are coming and we'll all be ... read more

Hey guys! This has been a pretty good weekend so far. I haven't done much today at all. It's gone by pretty fast but thats cause I went to Madrid yesterday to go shopping-yay- and meet up with a few people! This is my last weekend in Avila and I cannot believe how quickly it has all gone by. There have definitely been moments where I thought it would never end, but for the most part I have loved my time here. I have learned so much about myself, what I am capable, how I handle situations, being out of my comfort zone---waaaay out of it, becoming more independent, etc. The list could go on, and so I am thankful that I've had this opportunity to grow in this well as well as really experience the ... read more

Hey guys! I just was thinking about some funny things that have happened during my time here (or the other girls I'm here with) so I thought I'd share them. There's really too many funny things that happen each day because of the language barrier and the fact that I'm around kids, so its just natural for funny things to happen. Yesterday I walked into the 4th grade classroom and they all started screaming "Amy! YAY! Amy!" and they were cheering and clapping really loud. Some even gave me a standing ovation. Haha! It was hilarious, but a bit awkward. I felt like a celebrity, but I don't know if I really enjoyed it. I like that the kids like me, of course, but its just weird to walk into a classroom and have the kids ... read more
