Thursday August 9,2018 I awoke at 3:15 am and got dressed. I brought my suitcase and bag down quietly and waited with Sally. I said “good morning” to Jay and we got into the taxi which drove us to StanStead airport for a 7 am flight to Bilbao. The three of us checked in our luggage and went through security, my bag was inspected which took a bit longer than the others. Finally we walked to the terminal and found a nice cafe to have some breakfast. Then we went to our gate via a tram and arrived at #16 going to Bilbao,Spain. We waited for our seats to be called and boarded the Easy-Jet airplane bound for Bilbao!! I sat next to Sally while Jay sat in a different row of seats in front of us. ... read more

Monday August 13,2018 Today we went grocery shopping in Zamora. We all came home and rested and relaxed on the terrace of the villa. Then later Sally and I swam in the lake and went a little further to swim across to the other side of the lake. We rested and chilled until it was time for supper. The three of us had a lovely supper and dessert and then played a few rounds of boggle which was fun! I moved to a different room and organized my friend John’s room at the villa. Time to go to bed! Sunday August 12,2018 This morning, everyone slept in and awoke late and then we had breakfast. After breakfast,I went in search for the regular Banana Grams game but alas, it is not at the villa. I decided to clean and organize the big chest of drawers. Games, art, writing, maps and other things. Then after lunch I relaxed on a lounge chair, read, wrote and had a siesta. We all had a late lunch and just chilled afterwards until the strong wind carried one of the outdoor Umbrellas and knocked it down. Luckily-no one was hurt but it was a bit scary. After that, we just chilled and relaxed the rest of the day. Later that evening-Sally,Jay,Henry,Rachel,Ella,Felix and I went to Marcelino Pateco’s house for Tapas. He had made croquetes, potato frittata, ham, courgette sandwiches, shrimp ... read more

This morning we were able to pack up and much more easily than normal since we were the only ones in our two-bed room. Still, we didn't hit the road until after 7:30. On our way to the first real town of Villafranca del Bierzo, we passed a small property with some large, wild-looking sculptures. Check out the photo. When we got to Villafranca del Bierzo, we left the Camino a little bit to find a good place to eat breakfast. We ended up at the Cafeteria Compostella, where we split a slice of tortilla, and I introduced Raresh to churros. I knew he'd love them since I knew he loved chocolate and hot chocolate. We finished our breakfast, used the restroom, and reconnected with the Camino. Just after leaving town, I spotted some weird colored ... read more

As usual, we left the albergue around 7:30, accompanied by John, Alex and Livija. Today we planned on keeping on schedule to arrive early on the 3rd of October for Raresh's birthday. He has changed his flight to leave on the 4th instead of continuing on to Finnesterra. I had a cup of coffee and some vanilla wafers before we left. Our first town was Foncebadon, about 6 kilometers down, or should I say up, the trail. Today was to be a lot of ups and downs. In Foncebadon we ate breakfast at Ponte Irago to steel ourselves for the last 2 kilometers to the famous Cruz de Fero, or iron cross, where you are supposed to leave a rock or message representing a burden or emotion you feel. I had picked up a cool ... read more

***Again I have apologize for no photos, since it's almost lights out time and the connection is slow. As usual, we left around 7:15,with Ponferrada in our sights for breakfast, about 6 kilometers ahead. About 3 kilometers, most of it before sunrise, we passed through the tiny, still asleep, town of Campo. Campo translates in English to simply farm. Maybe way back it was just farms owned by people in Ponferrada. Just after that, we got our first good view of Ponferrada, down in the valley. As it almost always turns out, we had to climb up and then, knowing the highway not that far away simply went straight downhill. Raresh and I have a joke going that every town we enter will always have a steep climb just before or while entering the town. Strangely ... read more

We left the albergue in Azofra around 7:30 heading to Murias de Rechivaldo for breakfast, about 5 kilometers away. As we were leaving Azofra, we spotted a bunch of pilgrims stopping at some place in the left, before crossing the road. There was a small religious building called Hermita de Foce Homo. We took a peek inside before continuing on. They were giving pilgrim's stamps, but there was a line and we've been getting plenty. This morning we were traveling with a couple of folks we'd shared dinner with last night. Again, I'm sorry, but I am terrible with names. We soon entered Murias de Rechivaldo and stopped at Bar Cris for breakfast. Somewhere after that, I started leaving Raresh behind because he was talking and walking slowly. I entered Santa Catalina de Somoza 4 1/2 ... read more
