Well I have two weeks left in Palma. Things have absolutely reached their peak. An old au pair from two years ago is living with us now and she is actually really cool. I am so glad about that. Her name is Barbara. We go out together now since Katrina has another job and is always tired. Last week there was a Theatre festival here which was interesting. I didn't see any of the plays but I did see two people dancing on the side of a building while repelling down it. Very interesting. That was last Monday. Last Wednesday Barbara and I went to our favourite Palma bar, Casino, and had a really funny time. We are officially friends with ALL of the bartenders. Met a lot of interesting Palmeños and ended up going to ... read more

Cordoba and Seville day 3-5 (July 13- July 15) Metro and Bus to Cordoba and then local bus to the hotel. The hotel was right near the old town. Another very hot day so we had a short orientation walk and then very glad to visit the beautiful Mesquita not the least because it was wonderfully cool inside. This was a Mosque that had a Catholic Church inside. The Moorish design, with arches and marble pillars, and decorative walls were all left in place with the Catholic church making use of alcoves along the side, and placing the church itself in the middle. While the church pieces were impressive they appeared opulent and somewhat over the top alongside the more elegant design of the Moorish building. Some late tapas for lunch and then a siesta before ... read more

Wah!! Okay, so this weekend Katrina and I went to Feria de Cordoba. It was so crazy. We kept being told that it was going to be the most insane time, like nothing we'd ever experienced before, etc. Obviously we were both pumped upon hearing this but didn't want to believe it to it's full extent because we didn't want to have expectations that were too high. So. We took the LAST train from Palma to Cordoba (at 9h00 in the evening) and took the FIRST train back in the morning at 9h30. There was definitely no sleep happening between those two train rides either. Ha. So some details. Well, Ramon (padre) had been telling me that the colour of my hair would serve as a magnet for drunk-os at the feria. Cool. I didn't really ... read more

Second day in Corodba... Mesquita Catherdral imprinted a thunderlike impression in my memory. The Catherdra in Sevilla was impressive as well (3rd largest in the world). The arte de eclesia is big here... have to catch a bus to Granada. Before Sevilla I stopped by Cadiz for a party. Making connections all the time... Hostels are inexpensive, however every euro counts... have to make use of the the camping gear at some point. Tengo voy... valle, hasta luego y visite me aki algun veces. ... read more

Well here in Spain during Spring, there is a big thing called "The Patios" which is basically when people have spent time making their patios look beautiful with bright flowers, pots, waterfalls, etc. It takes place in Cordoba for a few weeks, and it is quite a sight. There are 78 patios this year, and they print maps in all the papers and you can tour the city and go into all of the patios for free. They give out awards and each patio boasts their previous winnings on tiles . Some win awards for architecture and they can win various other prizes, they also give out honorable mentions. There are famous buildings in the city that you can also enter to look at the patios within the castle, per say, and entry is free, where ... read more

Day 11 (Friday, April 3rd, 2009) We had initially planned on waking up this day at 8:30, but we didn’t end up rolling out of bed until 9:40. For some reason, we were both incredibly exhausted that morning; Mike thought it might have been due to the excessive amount of walking we had done the day prior in Sevilla. We finally left the hotel in Sevilla around 10:45. We then had to walk 20 minutes in order to reach the parking garage. Once we settled ourselves into the car, we drove about 1.5 hours until we reached Cordoba. Finding our hotel in Cordoba was an absolute nightmare due to the one-way streets. Our navigation system kept telling us to turn onto streets that we we were unable to, so it made finding the hotel nearly ... read more

Well... being the big group of Americans we are we thought we should have a St. Patty's Day party, because that seems to be a fun day to celebrate in the USA. So we invited our teachers over for a party. We made meatballs, a delicious roasted red pepper salad with onions, and a few pizzas. David brought lots of yummy candies, some kind of like M&Ms and gummy "besitos" which means "little kisses" which I absolutely love! We also had olives and potato chips, of course! We had a good turn out! We served Spanish beer, although Christine brought a few Guinness to share, but no one could really handle that kind of beer, haha, and we also had some Spanish wine. It wasn't a very Irish party, although we did make a delicious Shepard's ... read more

Well... last week was fun! When I came back to Spain after Christmas break, I brought with me some packets of taco seasoning... and I thought about how I haven't used them yet the other day, so Ceci and I decided to have a mexican night. And since we have our wonderful blender that we recently purchased, what would be more fitting to drink than Margaritas?! So Thursday night we had 8 guests over for dinner-- we made tacos, home-made mexican rice as well as beans, which were also very tastey!! Most of the guests hadn't had that kind of food before, so it was really fun. They didn't really know how to assemble a taco. I love making stuff from scratch, so I know these are things that I am going to want to make ... read more

I thought I would post some pictures on here so you can see my students. This week Rachel and I switched schedules, so now I will be doing 3 year olds, 1st, 2nd and 5th grade. I will really miss my kids, but I guess it will probably be nice to have a change. This weekend we had gorgeous weather again. Friday night Cecilia and I just relaxed. Each week we have been cooking something new, and last week it was Moroccan chicken stew with sweet potatoes. it was DELICIOUS! Saturday we walked around the city because it was so nice out. We got our eyebrows "waxed" which actually entailed a woman tweezing them and ripping out our skin. Not pleasant, but you live and you learn right? So since things have been a bit boring here in Priego, we decided to liven things up by having an 80's themed party. We invited teachers from our school as well as Cecilia's school. About 20 or so people attended, it was quite fun. We made jello shots since they had never heard of them. They were a big hit! We also taught them how to play "flippy cup" which is a game that has 2 teams in a line down the table and each person has a cup wiht a small amount of beer in it. You must drink the beer and then put the cup on the edge of the table and flip it over and get it to land upside down. After you do that, it is the next person on your teams ... read more
