International Friendship around the World
Published: December 14th 2008Europe » Russia » Centre » ObninskFor as large as this world is, it really is pretty small and it is amazing how we can all be brought to gether by the smallest of ways. I thought of this last night while at Oleg and Zhana's flat warming party. Oleg's toast was actually to me and how I was the reason for most people at the table knowing each other. I had a similar toast to Freddie at my going away party that it was because of his hello in English that we really met and became friends and of course from there, I met Leo, Egor, Andrey and the rest of the friends there in Obninsk and then Egor would not have met Margaret who was the one that strongly recommended I keep a blog of my time in Russia, which ... read more
I told you it would be a little while before I did any traveling. That does not mean I am sitting at home bored to death, but I just have not been "hopping" around the world here lately. Last weekend Freddie hosted a house warming party at his new flat. He has been working on it for some time, but finally had it finished enough to invite everyone over for his first official party. I think I have posted a few of the gathers, but they were not official parties. I do not remember how many people were there on Friday, but I would get guess 8-10. It was the usual Obninsk Gang(sters) and then some other friends and coworkers of Freddie's. Somehow they all decided to go to the local dance club at 2 AM ... read more
I know I have not been on for awhile so I thought I would give everyone a quick update. First, I hate to say this, but I think I came down with food poisoning. That was about four or five weeks ago, but I am just now getting my system back to normal. It was so bad, I went to the European Clinic in Moscow, twice. The first time, the medication did not do any good and it was on week two so I went back. They took samples (blood and stool), but found nothing. I do not know what it was, but it was something! I am glad to report, the bathroom schedule is all back to normal! Now on to more exciting things...I went to my first real Russian cookout. Yes, I have eaten ... read more
I thought I would go ahead and start this posting while I had some time this morning. It was so nice to sleep in and that was after going to bed at 5 PM! I originally was just going to lay down for a nap, but when the alarm went off at 6 PM, I just turned if off and went back to sleep. I did get up for a few hours around 9 PM, but then was back to sleep around 11 PM and slept all night, which I needed. I do not know what it is but I am pretty sure I came down with some food poisoning this week. It started Wednesday day and then all night through Thursday. I went to see our company doctor who gave me something to control the ... read more
Hello to all of my readers and thank you for your support! I can not believe I was home in the States for almost two weeks; it flew by and now I am back in Russia. It was good seeing and/or talking to the few of you that I did and sorry to all of the others that we were not able to connect. April 30, I tried to help Misha out by staying in a hotel close to the airport on Wednesday night, but I think I made it worse. I knew May 1 was a Holiday so I wanted him to have his holiday and not have to work by taking me to the airport, but with everyone leaving for their summer homes, traffic was HORRIBLE! We left the office around 6 PM and ... read more
I know it has been awhile since I posted anything, but not too much exciting going on here. It is finally spring and like most of you, we go from snow, to rain, to fog and everything in between; but I must say, the past week or so, it has been very nice with sunshine and temperatures reaching the lower 50's. We also had time change last weekend so Moscow is back to being 8 hours ahead of Eastern time zone. With the nicer weather, Leo asked me if I wanted to get a bike so I could tour around the city with the gang. I was originally opposed to it, thinking why should I spend the money on something I will hardly use and most likely not even keep when I go back to the ... read more
One thing I really enjoy here in Russia is the way they celebrate birthdays. I received many fine greetings today, both near and far, but I wanted to share a few from some of my Russian friends: 1. May your birthday be the beginning of another great journey!...Cirque du Soleil, okay so this was not a Russian friend, but I really liked it so I thought I would share it with everyone. 2. Happy birthday to you, Vince! Wishing you a good health, a big success & happiness, and big money with great love. Many happy returns of the day. 3. Happy birthday, dear Vince! Many happy returns of this day! I sincerely wish you success in everything you do, happiness, health, and joyful adventures! 4. Happy birthday Mr. Kramer. I wish you good and happy ... read more
I know I have been offline, but I am here (snow covered) and doing well. I have three blogs started with activities but no time to finish them and load the pictures. I did get moved, but no internet access yet at my new place; hopefully this week. If I actually stay around this weekend, I will try to get the blogs updated along with the pictures of the new flat. I hope all is well with everyone. I will be home in the States for Christmas if anyone is around. I will spend a few days in Gainesville before Christmas then to Mom and Dad's in Ohio for actually Christmas. ... read more
I started this blog almost a month ago, but never had pictures to go with and once I had pictures, I never had time to update the blog so finally after almost a month, here it is. I owe a huge thanks to Freddie for his help in finding it, working out the details, and just all of the time he took in the process to help! I am so glad we found this and got it all taken care of before I leave on Friday for the States. We looked at several, all two rooms (one bedroom). The very first one looked nice, but was smaller for about the same price. This is not cheap, but compared to others we looked at, it was a great deal. I also love the location, walkable to most ... read more
I am sure everyone has heard of bar hopping, well how about cafe hopping? On Saturday, Freddie found me an apartment to go look at so we did. It was okay, but pretty worn down so I decided to pass. I am suppose to look at one this week that is three rooms (the same size as I have now) and recently remodeled which does not mean much to me any more. I guess tight wad Kramer should have gone with one of the first ones I looked at but thought was too expensive. I am finding out it is about the going rate for something decent. I am spoiled in the one I am living in now. I wish I could keep it, but the landlord wants it back for their son. Anyways, after looking ... read more
