Crazy American
Yes, after a day of fun in Obninsk, we end up at the Horseshoe Cafe and here I am showing off the mini-volleyball I won at the dance contest. I thought I would go ahead and start this posting while I had some time this morning. It was so nice to sleep in and that was after going to bed at 5 PM! I originally was just going to lay down for a nap, but when the alarm went off at 6 PM, I just turned if off and went back to sleep. I did get up for a few hours around 9 PM, but then was back to sleep around 11 PM and slept all night, which I needed. I do not know what it is but I am pretty sure I came down with some food poisoning this week. It started Wednesday day and then all night through Thursday. I went to see our company doctor who gave me something to control the bowel movements and antibiotic. It is now Sunday and I feel better but still not normal so today is just stay at home and rest, also get caught up on emails and blogs.
As I shared, I was feeling better by Friday and I did not want to miss Leo's birthday celebration so we had a get together at my flat with the Obninsk
gang. It last much longer than I expected, but we all had a good time. I was good and stayed away from all alcohol and only drank juice; although I must say that Jack looked good! So slightly belated, Happy Birthday Leo!
I do not have any pictures to share from the party because dumby me forgot my camera at the company volleyball match last Tuesday. I brought it along so one of the observers could take pictures. I took it out of my gym bag as I was getting dressed and then got busy communicating (I will not call it talking) with a few of the players and walked away, leaving my camera there at the play ground area where we all changed. I never once thought about it until we pulled into Obninsk. I decided not to worry about it because it had to be in my gym bag. I got to my flat and looked all through it and no, it was not there. I knew exactly where I left it, if it was still there, so I quickly called Oleg who now lives in Atepshebo (where the volleyball games are held). I honestly did not
think it would still be there but Oleg went and found it; right where I left it.
Oleg was going to bring it with him when he came to Obninsk on Saturday but the party all happened on Friday so I do not have any pictures from it. I am posting a few from a beatiful rainbow that formed over Obninsk. I can not remember the exact day, but I know Leo called me and told me to go look out my balcony window to see the double rainbow. You could not see the full rainbow as there was cloud cover in the middle but you could see both tails. The picture really does not do it justice as the rainbow was brillent in color.
So on Saturday, we all got up at our leisure and then Leo, Freddie and I met to watch the semi-pro sand volleyball games here in Obninsk. The teams were very good so it was a lot of fun to watch. They did it up nicely as they had a dj and announcer. The bleachers were covered to keep you out of the sun with cheerleaders and music and drinks. The announcer had
different games, activities, questions to keep the audience entertained between games. Some were just give aways and others you had to do things so Freddie won by having the most touches to a volleyball with his feet. The silly American also won something. Leo and Freddie told me to get up and dance so I did and was selected to come down and dance with everyone else and I won a prize! (Yes, I was the only adult down there dancing and all of you back home would have been laughing at me just like my two friends here were...lol)
After the games, we ran a few errands around town and of course ended up at the Horseshoe Cafe. Again, I was good and stayed away from the food and only drank mineral water. This diet is getting old and can not wait to go back to coffee in the morning and diet Cokes in the afternoon with a nice sherma from the cafe for lunch or dinner.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I know the weather here is perfect, 80's during the day and down to the 60's at night. I do not think this
will last much longer, but hopefully through August when when we have the company's summer olympics. Our volleyball team is terrible, but I find it is a great way to get to know some of the workers, which is positive. Take care and thanks for reading and keeping up with me here in Russia and all of my travels. - Vince

having fun
Looks like you're still having loads of fun there! Glad to hear it compared to the way things are here. Still looking for a job and the economy seems to be getting worse by the day but something will come along. Take care and write when you can.
