A Little Malta Break! Europe » Malta By Bubba Woosh Joblet Sticky Pickles WylieMay 28th 2007Beckie Nowicka Having been to this country about 20 times you would think that I had no photos to show!!!………………… But no of course not!!! This is me remember!!! Mum and Dad took me away before I jet off to Dubai!!! We usually stay at the same hotel every time but it closed down so instead we were staying at a sister hotel in St Julian’s (the “lively” area… for Malta!)…………… The weather wasn’t that great so this time we did a bit of site seeing, which meant photo taking for me so I was happy!!! We visited: Mdina the Silent City (till I arrived!) Valletta the Ca... read more

So there we were in Gozo, an island off Malta- one of our favourite places so far on this trip! Malta is fantastic and Gozo is just as good, if not better. We had quite a pleasant flight (about 3 hours) to Malta from England with a very funny Captain who came out and introduced himself and his wicked sense of humour, and got lots of giggles out of everyone (people over 60 seem to find dry humour a lot funnier than the average....or was it because they were all British?), then we proceeded to have a few more wines and chat to the Canadian-Australian with Maltese heritage (who is a non-uniformed member of Vic Police) who seemed to not like flying but very much liked Jonnie Walker! We had lots of interesting conversations with our ... read more

We enjoyed our trip to Malta, we based ourselves in Mellieha Bay, and it was very easy to travel around the country by local bus and very cheap. We only stayed a week, but travelled around, visiting Mosta (an absolute must), Valletta, Comino island, and was also easily able to walk across to see the Popeye village filmset on the west coast. For a good easy week, it is a quiet, relaxing place to visit. My only recommendation would be to hire a taxi on Comino Island as the bus station is in the centre, and journey's go off in all directions, it is difficult to visit more than two places because of the timetables, hiring a taxi means you can explore the little island. ... read more

A tiny archipelago of 3 islands in the Med not too far from Italy. We stayed in the north of the main island in a place called Buggiba so we'd be close to the ferries that run to Gozo and Comino (the other 2 islands). Not a hell of a lot to do there, there's a few sandy beaches but most are pebbled (some red rock beaches that looked pretty cool, but not exactly comfortable) or just shear rock - very impressive. Other than that there's a bunch of seriously old remains of structures and archaeological sites. Unfortunately they don't take great care of these relics, we tried to see some caves that were 3000 years old but were told that they no longer existed, quite sad. They did have the remains of the oldest man ... read more

Malta Photos Europe » Malta » Valletta By Moving edgewaysApril 6th 2007Work provided a few days off in Malta. Valetta harbour (or harbours plural....) is stunning as is the Baroque old town with its neat grid system. Its a peculiar place with the mix of beauty and chaos of Italy but plenty of British influences too (it seems to be where old right-hand drive cars go to die, the only other place in Europe where they can drive on the correct(!) side of the road....) ... read more

Well its official, of all the European Counties we have visited during this last 12 months, Malta is the hands down winner for our fave. The people are the friendliest, the beaches are the bluest, the weather was the warmest and the food was the tastiest. Hows that for a good rap hey, well they deserve it. First of all let me say that it was nothing at all like the picture I had in my head of what Malta would be like. In some parts like Sliema where we stayed, it reminded us of queenslands sunshine coast, it was so commercialised and geared towards tourism, and the development thats going on there is unbelievable. Then there´s the parts like Valetta that remain mostly untouched and are heritage listed so they cant be touched. There´s so ... read more

The engines roar. The small airport building which is made out of limestone passes by. Just a second later, the wheels of the aircraft lift off and this typical sound makes me sure that they are parked in the wheel house. I can see the aircraft’s shadow soaring over green fields, roads with cars and yellow busses and villages. Solar cells on rooftops in Qormi, Attard and Mosta reflect the warm and still friendly late autumn sun. Soon the harbour of Ċirkewwa is under us. One of the white-blue ferry boats is about to leave on its twenty-minutes-trip to Gozo and takes the last cars that want to ferry across the Maltese Channel. Comino, the smallest of the Maltese islands, is already prepared for winter sleep. Finally, we reach Victoria, the mayor city of Gozo, turn ... read more

Alot of people go to Malta for the sun, the diving, the history of the Knights of St John but often miss the amazing beautiful temples there. There are quite a few on the Islands, my favourite is the one mainly photographed here - Hagar Qim. They are said to be the oldest Goddess Temples on the Planet and they certainly create a place of wonder and mystery that you can let your imagination explore. ... read more

The trip to Malta came about simply because I had entered a prize draw through a coffee promotion at work by punching in codes into a website, and entering myself into 5 draws for a pair of tickets to a European destination. Well, somebody up there likes me, because I scooped a pair of return tickets to Malta, and almost instantly, I was boarding a BA flight to Valletta, and arriving with the task of getting from the airport to the hotel armed with a basic map, and no other sense of direction. This proved to be the hardest task of the entire trip, really, despite how simple the map made it look, and once we'd arrived, after taking numerous diversions, and straying well off course, the resort of St. Julians looked lively enough to spend ... read more
