I have been introduced to TravelBlog, and what a wonderful opportunity this is to share our travels to South Africa with family and friends.
I hope that I will be able to find a computer and a little bit of time, to update a few times during our holiday, and tell you about the things we are doing.
This will not mean that you get out of going through the hundreds of photos we'll have when we get back though!!! Just in case you were thinking about this!!
Enjoy and lots of love

I have a few minutes left of my online time, enough to write a quick synopsis. St Lucia is a beautiful island, lush green and stunningly beautiful. The hotel is fab, although it can only be about 40% capacity. Food is great and great quality. Did some sailing today, which was fun. Have visited the drive in volcano, the famous waterful, the rainforest, the zip wire (scary) More later - time running out.... read more
I'm now half way through updating my holiday diary ... it takes some time ... more installments soon! It might save you visiting my off line album !... read more
This is the first opportunity where I have found a space to find the internet and log on!! I am borrowing a PC from this local guesthouse. It is a manor house with just a handful of rooms, and is beautiful, feel as though I should have some slippers to walk around it! It overlooks Knysna's lagoon and is a lovely setting. Very quiet, sleepy town, which hides more within, if you delve a little deeper, unfortunately we have only had a day (two nights) to enjoy this location. We drove to one of the bays, enjoyed the beautiful and quiet beach and then drove back to Knysna to take a boat trip to the heads, the entrance to the Lagoon. It was cloudy but warm this morning, and this afternoon was early twenties, very pleasant, ... read more
My other 'blog' was written whilst away ... I am updating and adding now I am back! I have had several people ask where we stayed it was http://www.parkesmanor.co.za/ and really was very nice, we were looked after well. And just a 10-15 min easy walk to the restaurants and shops on the lagoon. The shops were nice (lots of security personnel around - however didn't feel unsafe at all, very clean and tidy). We did a bit of driving, but not too much, drove briefly to Plettenburg Bay, but were unable to find easy access to beach and therefore drove back to Knysna and found Brentwood on Sea. Beautiful sandy beach and lovely location. We enjoyed the remainder of the day on a relaxing boat trip to the headlands. Enjoyed shopping at the waterfront and ... read more
Following the Cango Caves we headed ... 5. to Prince Albert via the Swartberg Pass. We passed over the mountains using this gravel pass. On one side there were fantastic views across the fields and villages, and once over the top, the other side, was a magnificent mountain pass, with beautiful scenery. It is a wonder how on earth it was cut into the mountains - apparently it took a convict labour gang seven years in 1888. 6. Lunch at Prince Albert was special - Victoria Tea Rooms, in a quaint and very quiet, sleepy village, we were the only people about, apparently it was siesta time - well it was 36 degrees I suppose! It was definately worth detouring to stop here! 7. Doubling back, we travelled the Meiringspoort Pass, which was a tarred road, ... read more
Had a fun day at Oudsthoorn ... which was full of excitement .. 1. Checked out of hotel - we only had one night here 2. Drove round residential areas of the town ... very pretty streets that just suddenly end, seems a nice residential area to live 3. Visited an Ostrich Show Farm (just before turning off to the Cango Caves). The guide was excellent, told us the history of Ostriches, explained the eggs, watched them hatch, stroked a one week old bird, took us to mother, and we had fun watching Julie and others ride an Ostrich. It was fun, and they run the Farm very well, the Ostriches were clearly looked after. I even had a back massage by ostrich - nice! Unfortunately we laughed so much that none of us managed to ... read more
Abbie - we have some fantastic pictures of baby Ostriches, we saw some hatching from their large eggs, and stroked one which was only a week old. Cute and soft. Our friend then rode one - very funny great fun - haven't laughed so much for ages, I was in absolute tears. The one Julie rode, was fully grown though. And Uncle Adam ate one for dinner in the evening - he said this was quite tasty too! Have some great photos to show you. We are off to see the Lions next !!! Sending you lots of love, hugs and kisses, even from all the way in South Africa - did Mum show you were we are on your map??? Give Libby and Toby a hug for me. Love you lots - Auntie Sar and ... read more
Unfortunately we ended up running a few hours late, because we were expecting our car to be delivered, but in fact they thought we were picking up. Doesn't matter! Long journey today from Cape Town across the Country to Oudsthoorn. It was recommended by several people to not take the N2, however, being later and wanting to arrive, we thought we would do a journey of two halves! So, we travelled the N2 to Swallendam and the crossed the mountains to join the scenic R62 which takes us to Oudtshoorn. Definately worth crossing the mountains, incredibly scenic and striking. Very long, straight roads, with either barron landscape, or miles of farmers fields. Had lunch and stretched our legs (we plan all outings by lunch and dinner stops!) at Barrydale, very quite hamlet, pleasant lunch. Finally arrived ... read more
