After the heavy drinking, it is hard to get up to do anything. Not to mention that the local church decided to ring the bell every half an hour in the middle of the night ( I am not kidding). I took it easy morning and early afternoon. In the afternoon, I finished my touring around the cinque terre and meet up with Katie (from US) and Grace (from New Zealand) again and shared our stories. By the way, they have a vending machine to sell female underwear. I thought it would be funny to buy one. I couldn´t believe I got the Scorpio panties.......crazy. I went to the beach again and meet up with Giulia and Enrika (Italian). They are very cool. i wish I meet this local girls beforehand. We had a lot of ... read more

After chatting with her, it makes me want to meet even more people. That night I hung out with my roomate, Josh from New Zealand. He is also traveling by himself. But he is going for a year. We hung out with a group of German high school students that night. It was one of the guy´s birthday. He is also chinese and we have very similar haircut. They were taking pics of our hair...... I also met two Norway girls too. Next morning, I met Julio (an italian girl) and Darragh (pronoun it as Darra, Irish guy). We went to cinque terre together. We did a two hiking for the total of 1.5 hours. Then we went to swim in the beautiful ocean. Darra got burned very easily. The beach are not sandy here. Tons ... read more

I met an alone Vancouver Canadian traveller. I don´t remember her name or I should say I refuse to know. I chatted with her about 3 mins and she said "These Italian are like the people who live in Richmond, BC (Richmond has the highest asian community in BC). They are mean, angry, and don´t know how to enjoy life". I was speechless and I asked myself "Wow I don´t look asian anymore?" " What the fuck was wrong with her?". I said "yeah, i work in Richmond." She said " I feel sorry for you." Racism and don´t even know it. I met a lot of nice and cool people. This one is off the chart. The following night, she came to join us to have a drink in the patio. We all sat close ... read more

Posting Time: 10:30am Location: Spain, Zaragoza, Raquel´s apartment We went our own way in Florence´s train station. I decided to stay in florence for another afternoon before heading to Lucca (off Pisa) for the night. I watched the first half of the soccer game in Pisa and second half in Lucca. Lucca is a interesting town. The city wall is still around the city. It is a great place to stay for a day. The next morning, I met up with Katie from US and travel to Cinque terre together. Cinque Terre (5 fishing Villages) seem to exist apart from the rest of italy. The villages clusters of random coloured houses surrounded by olive graves and vineyards. I forgot to mention these villages also provide breathtaking views of the ocean. The ocean around cinque terre is ... read more

Ciao family and friends It's now the beginning of July and I'm still in Russia enjoying the white nights of midsummer in temperatures around 30deg. Getting up to date with these blogs is a slow process but it's still happening so I'm backtracking here..... ......at the end of April I farewelled Turkey and flew from Istanbul to Rome to begin my week in Italy. I could only fit two destinations into my schedule here, both of which I'd not seen on my previous visit but had heard lots about. Although it was sad to leave Turkey I was excited about the next stage of my journey as I travelled north on a full train up the western side of Italy to La Spezia on the Ligurian coast (very close to the French Riviera). I'd inadvertantly arrived ... read more

Riomagiorre, in the Cinque Terra, moves into a slight lead over Santorini as my favorite place on this trip. The Cinque Terra, “the five lands”, is a national park that consists of five little villages in a remote area on the Italian Riviera. Although it is remote, this place is very popular with Americans, (Australians and Germans coming in a close second). Let’s just say you hear more English than Italian as you’re walking around the street. I may have loved this place so much because it was a mini miracle that I even got there. Yesterday afternoon in Florence (pretend that this blog is up to date!), I had no place to stay that night, so I went to the Internet café and began sending emails about apartments in Cinque Terre and also printed a ... read more

The village where we stayed was called Riomaggiore, in the Cinque Terre, Italy. Basically it comprises of 5 little towns called Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterossa. These gorgeous little villages are set on cliffs, and on the second day there we decided to walk from Rio to Monterossa. And I realised just how much pizza, pasta and gelati i have been eating! But after sweating buckets and getting dirt encrusted ankles it was all worth it for the stunning views and a delicious swim at the end of it. Other than hiking, the Cinque Terre was very relaxing and we didnt do much else. Rio has a really good vibe about it, we had an awesome little flat where we could cook our own food, and it just happened to be right outside the main ... read more

We left nice and early to start our hike. Stuffed ourselves with focaccia for breakfast and started on our way. We started from the village Montorosso. The first part of the hike was extremely hard. We did ok for the first half hour. By the hour, Angele was falling behind because her knee was starting to bug her. And by the time an hour and a half rolled around I thought I was going to die! I swear it wasn't this hard last year, but it could just be that im getting older and out of shape? Anyways, we dipped our feet in the ocean in Vernazza and enjoyed some fresh fruit and Gelati for lunch. Then it was time to continue the torture...I mean the hike...again. This portion was not as bad as the first. ... read more

Well, we really didn't do the Cinque Terre, we did the Tres Terre. For those not so versed in Italian, this means we visited only 3 towns, not five. We started at the first town, Riomaggiore, and did a leisurely walk (30 minutes) to the next. On the way were the most amazing cliff and sea views that equally marvel Big Sur. It was about 85 degrees outside and we quickly realized we made a big mistake - we didn't bring our swimsuits. Italians, however, were well prepared and had brought along picnics and wine and were gracefully swimming in the turquoise water below our walkway. None-the-less we walked on to the second town, Manarola, where we visited a cute pottery shop where 5 members of one family paint pottery. We couldn't resist (and the prices ... read more

Hello! We have a little catching up to do on our blog. So to start we will tell you about Florence. We arrived late at night due to shopping in Venice, catching the train, switching trains and getting into Florence. Upon arrival we found our room (up 5 flights of stairs). Rick Steve's had a great restaurant recommended a few blocks away. In the restaurant we had our own private niche. Everything was homemade from the pasta to the wine (which was grown at the owner's vineyard in Siena). The second day in Florence we all went to the Uffizi and Accademia (the Statue of David). The Uffizi was overwhelming a work of such beauty. The rooms had each artisit divided along with the time tables of art work. There were a lot of similarity between ... read more
