Wednesday, 14th January, 2009. We went to the reception at about eight o'clock, did some surfing and had some drinks. It was pretty windy, so we didn't venture out. We bought some crisps the other day and ate them in the room. Thursday, 15th January, 2009. A bright start to the day. Still a little windy. I keep forgetting to mention that next door to the Hotel is some form of Military building, and every morning we have heard reveille at eight o'clock. Pat went down to breakfast and I joined her shortly after. We were heading for Kardemena today, and set off at ten o'clock. Monday, 12th January, 2009. We went to the reception area at eight thirty and ordered some drinks and coffee. We connected to the internet and updated the blog. After this we went for a short stroll in the vicinity. We bought some pastries and went back the hotel. The town was quiet. We ate the pastries when we got back and then retired for the evening. Tuesday, 13th January, 2009. A bright start to the day, a little cloudy and windy. Pat went down for breakfast and for a change I joined her after a little while, I had bacon and eggs, Pat just had some rolls. Second go-round... Back on Kalymnos. Two weeks of climbing, three rest days, swollen fingers, fire in my muscles, and David Sharpe! Beautiful People My new friend Shay Har-noy lives in America, but we ended up crossing paths in Israel. I was telling him how one of the things I love about climbing is all the hot men with their tops off. He exclaimed, "I know! You would think other women would have caught on by now! Even men who are in their forties with kids will still have six-packs." Dave Sharpe drew my attention to the obvious. Good Day, Kalymnos, Greece! I arrived in Athens and took a good look at the fabulous architecture sites there. The next day I came into Kalymnos and just happened to walk into the exact week of the International Dive Festival of Kalymnos. This means that I get to dive for the next two weeks FOR FREE. Sponges Okay, let's back up. Kalymnos is famous for their sponges. The problem is that for the last 25 years, the mayors of the small island didnt promote tourism, they promoted the destruction of the natural wildlife -sponges - because foreigners wanted them (the world demand is 6 times more than the supply), and therefore it brought in a lot of foreign revenue. Geo: 36.7951, 27.1393Yesterday we bought our tickets for a day trip to Kos, Greece, which is about an hour away from Bodrum by ferry. This morning we got up and out the door by 8am so that we could make the 9:30 launch. It's a complicated business going from Turkey to Greece. You have to do passport checks before you leave and when you arrive both ways. Since we were with a large group on a ferry, the whole process took much longer than I would have liked. The passport guys were very nice though and one of them in Greece was very pleased to have an Alexander at his station.I know how tantilizing the prospect is of hearing about our adventures in Greece, but internet is out at home and I'm sitting by the side ... read more
