Chohylariou Bay
Our car, the beast, on the beach again, trying to get into modelling for the Toyota adverts! Tuesday, 13th January, 2009.
We went to the reception downstairs and had some drinks and coffee, while updating the blog.
We went for a short walk in the town and got some more pastries. We were not overly hungry after having a really good late lunch.
We returned to the room and ate the pastries, which were delicious. We don't have pastry shops at home like they have here.
Wednesday, 14th January, 2009.
The weather is overcast.
16 weeks traveling.
Pat went down to breakfast, I stayed in bed.
A tour of the Island was on the cards for today. We left the hotel about ten, and headed off. The road took us past Tigaki, Marmari, and the airport. Then heading South we stopped off at Lagada beach and watched the waves rolling in.
The car temperature said 17°C, although with the wind in some places today, it didn't always feel that warm.
How quickly we acclimatise, Pat and I are wearing coats the same as everyone else. With this temperature at home, I'm sure I would have been in the garden in shorts.
We went through the coastal resort
Chohylariou Bay
Pat on the beach of Kefalos and it was deserted, although we did see two people. So twice as busy as Tigaki yesterday! It was definitely shut for the winter.
We drove very slowly through the town and generally nosed about the place.
Then following the road, we went into the proper town, in the mountain behind, which was much more alive and an ordinary small place, hustling and bustling with people living ordinary everyday lives.
Then as we drove along we could see a long beach on the Western coast along Chohylariou bay, which looked nice and we tried to get to.
Some of the side roads very quickly became unmade and we followed one for a while, but gave up and turned round.
Then further along opposite Lagada beach we headed west and did a bit of off roading. Our decision to buy the type of car we did, has again been validated and we bounced up and down a track for some time before arriving at a beach and the sea.
We got out and had a look about the beach. Only us on miles of deserted beach. How wonderful.
Time to head back, so we headed North East following the road back to Kos Town.
We arrived back and quickly visited the room, and headed straight out for some lunch.
We walked up to the Port to look at the ferry and then back to the town. The Tourist information office which we finally found yesterday, was open today, so we popped in and took an Island map.
We are both sure that the Tourist information office was in another building when we were here last time, There is a sign in the centre, but it points to where we think the old place was.
We decided on Goodys, the burger place, for lunch. As mentioned before they are the local equivalent to McDonald's. The nice thing about them, is when you eat in the restaurant, they give you proper dishes and plates for your food. It is still fast food and burgers, but it does seem to make a difference.
After lunch we went up to the square and bought some English newspapers. Then sat and had a very windy coffee. It did try to rain, but only the odd drop.
Then back to the Hotel.
The car completed 6500 miles on our journey today.
It does make you realise the size of the Island, when you figure that we drove the whole thing this morning.
