Athens...I have seen this wondrous city on television all of my life, and I have only dreamed of coming here. Now my dream was finally a reality. I was anxious to get to my hostel, for I had booked one very near to the Parthenon, and you supposedly could see the Acropolis from there. I depart from the ferry, and find the metro that will take me near to my hostel. Once I depart the metro station, I make my way to the street level, and after a short time searching for the street, I find the hostel. After check in and going to my room, I find I have a top bunk. Not as excited about this, but luckily for me I was able to switch to a bottom bunk after only one day. I ... read more

We arefiinally on a computer and can see what you have written. Thanks for all the blogs and we can see the full screen and no predictive text. Just had a meal in hotel restaurant didnt enjoy it much and cost us a lot of money. Have noticed the difference in cost of things from Italy to Greece. We were paying up to 3 euro for a bottle of water and now only 40cents. In Italy we were paying up to 2 euro to go to the loo now we dont pay but arent able to put toilet paper down the loo(goes in an open bin beside the toilet) - We are glad we arent the maids! Fortunately we didnt have queus in Rome because we had tour guides so paid quite a bit but was ... read more

I happen to find the history really interesting, so if you don't want to read about it, just skip past the bullets :) Greece has over 1300 islands, but only 240 are occupied. Greece was very advanced for it'd tme and invtented democracy, science, math, comedy, tragedy, politics....and....the yoyo It's a country of contrast. They invented all that stuff, yet you can't flush toilet paper, and only ine bathroom so far has had a toilet *seat*, I kid you not. Exciting tme to be here because of the elections. The Greeks got way into debt, and if the country collapsed, the euro would suffer, so the other eu countries didn't want that. They gave Greece 110 billion euros (that was to pay off the interest, not even the principle of the debt) to help them, but ... read more

Tarikh Lawatan : 19-22 March 2011 Destinasi: Athens, Greece Greece? It was never came across into my mind to visit this country before. Why? Hurmm…may be sbb aku tak byk tahu psl negara ni, plus takde direct air connection pun dari KL and even from Ashgabat kan.…btw the only thing I heard abt the country was they were struggling due to economic recession since the last 2-3 years. Mmg tak la rasa nak pegikan…dah2 tentu rega brg2 kat sana mahal and kos transportation jugak pasti mahal. But things changed lps aku disogok oleh kwn2 sekerja kat Ashgabat (ASB) ni, aku cair jugak akhirnya and then we planned the trip since ada cuti tambahan 2 hari, there was a team member yg sgt baik hati nak merancang segala jadual and activity kami kt sana. Aku ape lg, ... read more

There has been a lot of unrest in Greece since the beginning of time. Other countries have often occupied Greece and many things have been done against Greece. The Nazis stole all of the Jewish gold and artwork and Germany has never recompensed them. Many of their temples and old buildings have been destroyed either by occupation from another country or by an earthquake. Some ruins are still being discovered. We saw a group of American archeological students excavating an area about which has information has not yet been released. In Athens there are no single house dwellings. Everyone lives in an apartment. All of the apartment buildings are alike as many were destroyed or decrepit after time. Athens has a big problem with illegal immigrants, due to a United Nations Policy, Athens may not turn ... read more

Hello world, Thank you to all of those sending good vibes while I stay in Greece during their rioting and 'social expedition.' I am safe. For a quick back track, the last week or so I spent in Italy. More specifically Florence and Rome. In Florence I couch surfed with Cecilia. She is one of the most light hearted, multi talented persons I have met. She is a doctor, gorgeous, energetic and kind....we are going to marry... Even though it was her sisters wedding the next day, she still found time to take me out for authentic Italian pizza with her friends and prepare breakfast the next day. It happened to be Florence's patron saint birthday, so there was an hour long fireworks show that blew my mind right beside the David, overlooking the city. Great ... read more

Tuesday 3rd May 2011 Drive from Delphi to Athens initially in the mountains then dropping to the plain before joining the Thessaloniki - Athens motorway. The instructions to find Athens Camping were good the traffic however was very heavy and a little like wacky races. At one point we nearly collided witha mobile forest aka a small pickup vastly overloaded with plants that decided to move lanes without warning - there could have been an international green incident but thankfully it was narrowly avoided. Driving here is an interesting experience it appears speed limits and road markings a purely advisory rather than a legal requirement - double whites seem to be a challenge to overtake preferably at the crest of a hill on a blind bend.
