... read more

Geo: 50.9737, 11.0224Thursday morning, we had a delicious breakfast offered by the hotel for €10 each. The restaurant was just around the corner from our hotel. We were all packed so we relaxed a bit before returning to the hotel to get our taxi to the Hauptbanhof. I had it planned to use public transportation whenever possible but find it almost impossible with Mom's luggage requirements on these trips. We haven't bought much but already the suitcases are on double expando and well over their original 50 lb. airline limit. The cab comes and we take the 7 minute journey to the train station where we wait for the 9:34am to Erfurt. Karen is always a "Nervous Nellie" until she gets on the train. Every train that arrives at the platform brings the same, "See if ... read more

Day 3 of trip -- Erfurt, Thüringen The photos here mainly show the 2 churches on the hill overlooking the main plaza (Mariendom and Severikirche). The interior photos were all taken inside the Mariendom (church on left). All other photos are of the old town center.... read more

So, I've started a blog for my year abroad, which you probably gathered since you're reading this :D This first entry's a bit long - promise any further ones will not be anywhere near as arduous. Three weeks ago, on Saturday 27th August, Mum, Dad and I travelled to London Waterloo by train and crossed London to St Pancras station in a taxi. There was a long wait for my train to Brussels (I was going on the Eurostar!) but eventually it was time to leave. The only thing very remarkable about that journey, apart from the fact that it was the EUROSTAR, was a very nice young French chap, who was visibly wriggling next to me as I laboriously struggled to complete a basic su doku. In the end, he couldn’t contain himself and helped ... read more

Day 5, It is the 31st so I’ve obviously missed a few days. The internet’s going in and out but the hostel is getting it checked out. Let me just start out by saying I will definitely study abroad! This experience is so amazing! I can’t describe how cool it is to go out to eat and you can look across the table and see someone from the US, UK, Japan, Tajikistan, Russia, Germany, Palestine, Lithuania, India, Thailand, Israel, . I have met and have been becoming friends with people from all 15 of these nations. It’s so wild! Everyone here has been super nice and most can speak fluent English. The Lithuanians and the Russians speak broken English. It’s tough holding a conversation with them because once you get passed a lot of the easy ... read more

Today s the day. I have KSSN 96 blaring in the background to make sure that I get up and about. My suite case is still half way empty, I tend to be a last minute person. That just makes things more exciting, more of a rush, a "am I going to make it on time?" attitude. However, when it comes to catching my flight to head to Europe I don t really plan on having that rush of "am I going to make it or not?” Well I guess I better get up and finish packing. I have never used a blog before and so this is a little weird for me right now. I still don t really know what I m doing yet, or how to upload pictures, or how to put this ... read more
