It has been almost two months now and our travel has STOPPED. Boom! Just like that! Our travels from Nicaragua to Frankfurt took a couple of days which we always knew it would so it was OK. Our transfers were perfect actually. I wish I could say the same about zi German vether! Two days after 5 days of perfect 30 degree summer paradise weather on a secluded beautiful Nicaraguan beach, we arrived in Frankfurt to visit Chris’s sister’s family. It was snowing and about -167°C...well it was actually just -5°C or so but that’s how damn cold it felt for this little Aussie battler who had just spent 3 months wearing just shorts, thongs and a smile! Our Frankfurt visit was a quick stopover for to say Hallo to family and for us to grab ... read more

What a surprise, I was having a bit of glum day trying to decide what to do with the rest of my life as usual when my sister Heidi told me to wrap myself up warm, grab my camera and hop in the car. She had a surprise planned for me. I've mentioned previously that Heidi's boyfriend owns a restaurant that's situated on a small Airfield and my lovely Sis had arranged for me to partake in a 35 minute flight in a 4 seater Cessna above Hamburg. It was lovely and warm in the plane and even though it was very misty we had an amazing view of Hamburgs huge habour and beautiful old Alster area. I spent a few days exploring this area with Jaime a couple of years ago and it sure looks ... read more

Hello Again well my first day was a complete mixture of emotions at the vets. I was thrown in at the deep end - which I loved. I was assisting with Ops before I was even introduced to anyone, they appeared to have a real staff shortage. Although I must admit that the responsibility felt a little daunting. We performed a total of 12 minor operations, undertook a tummy scan on a lovely fluffy ferrel cat that could not keep any food down, patched up a rat that had decided to nibble open her stiches from a previous op, investigated possible fungi infections in the lab and carried out an x-ray on a large doberman....all in a mornings work and I was loving it. But then came a side of being a vet I could not ... read more

Hi Everyone, just a quick update....I have received great news today. When I was a wee girlie I really wanted to be a vet, but somehow fell into the 'I need to make money in Business Development' trap instead. You may have come across my travel entries where I swoon over pets & wildlife, I'm a complete nature freak - so I have now decided to spend some time double checking if my calling really was to work with animals....anyway, to make a long story short, tomorrow I start work with the local town vet!!!! They are crying out for help at the moment so practically bit my hand off (pardon the pun teehee) when I called to enquire. I can't wait! I actually did some work experience with this vet when I was 13 or ... read more

Hello Everyone, today is my birthday and it feels very strange. I usually have plans to throw myself out of planes, drive Bigfoot vehicles over clapped out police cars, travel to some far distant place to spot an Albratross - or well at least put on some high heels and hit the dancefloor for the night, but today has been very quiet. As I mentioned previosly I am currently visiting family in Germany - my big sister Heidi and her two boys Kieren & Liam. Unfortunately the boys are heading to England today for a two week holiday with their Nana, so Heidi has to drive them to the Airport in Hannover. As I really didnt feel like spending my Birthday on the motorway I opted to put on my wet weather gear and go for ... read more

I meant to update this blog before I took off on my short study tour with my peers and program adviser, but I was a little preoccupied, what with all the packing and homeworking. As is, I will introduce you to my German adventure now, just to give you a little taste before I go to bed. So Thursday morning I meet my peers bright and early at Frue Plads, a square near school in Copenhagen. We board the bus and high-tail it to Lubeck , Germany. We have to take a ferry across the waters that separate the southern islands of Denmark from Germany's north coast. Something I noticed right away: Germany is cheaper than Denmark. Most places are, but wow. Things are much more reasonably priced. In the whole weekend, I spent 30,00 Euro, ... read more

A german friend G.. and N.. took the kids for an indoor play day. The sun was hinting at coming out, but it had a hard battle with lots and lots of clouds. We didn't want to sit around and wait to find out if the Sun would win or not. After all, every silver lining comes with a cloud.... read more
