Gootentag! Give me a break if I’m spelling this wrong…we got into Germany late last night (3 am?) and have been exhausted all day! So Germany is something different versus the other countries we’ve been too…Yesterday’s driving route, with some in-between: Paris,FR to Metx,FR (we found a cool mid-evil castle, a haunted church (I swear!), & a toilet that sanitizes itself for 5 min b4 the next can use it…I really had to pee…. along the way within the country side as well as passed through Champagne, France) up to Luxembourg City, LX (in which we spent a whole 2 hours in the country (1.5 hr was at a stuffy restaurant with unwelcoming people and getting lost..that was my fault:( And finally Westum, Germany where we only had directions to the general town & not ... read more

This morning I woke up and walked like a zombie down to breakfast - only half awake. 5 hours is NOT enough sleep. I piled my plate full of food, scarfed it down, drank copious amounts of coffee and hopped on the coach. It was at this point, when Pom Pom was trying desperately to get us all settled and ready to go, that Amanda realized that her camera charger was still in the room. She snuck out the back door of the coach and into the hotel. Damian pulled the coach over to the exit of the parking lot, waiting impatiently for her to get back. I think he and Pom Pom were getting anxious, but what happened next lightened the mood. We were all watching as poor Amanda came sprinting out of the hotel, ... read more

Day 23 Thursday 8th February 2007 Rode the gondola’s down Mt Pilatus for the last time. We heard later that after lunch that day, they had to close the mountain as it was too windy for the gondolas to operate. Thank goodness we got down otherwise we would have been stuck up the top of the Swiss Alps. We entered back into Germany and travelled down the Rhine Valley along the Rhine River to St Goar. The Rhine Valley is famous for its wine. The vineyards are small and grow on the sides of very steep mountains so looking after the vineyards is mostly completed by hand. A very hard job to complete. Located along the river are many castles, built beside the river as this was once and still is a major trading area. The ... read more

DAY 3; This morning we leave Amsterdam on our way to St.Goar but first stopping at Cologne and driving through the Rhine Valley. We get to Cologne in a couple of hours and are happy to see that the Great Christmas Markets are still on and thriving. We are first greeted by the BIGGEST Cathedral in Europe, which is soooo large that even if you lie on the ground to take a photo you still cant get it all in. It is absolutely amazing, i have no idea how they could build something like that so long ago when they haven’t got any of the technology we have today! And its not just that its so big, but there is so much detail in every brick and door way and window, it is truly spectacular!! Anyways ... read more

So from the Swiss alps onto germany where we stopped overnight in the Rhine Valley and went to the largest Stein store in the world.......excitement plus........ next day we started our trip to Amsterdam.... stopping in at Edam..... for a thrilling demo in clog and cheese making...AWESOME stuff........ and then a little bike ride around the town......... that was pretty cool I, however, did get to stick my finger in a dijk (dyke) which is something i've wanted to do for a long time...... From there we went into Amsterdam....now forgive me here if details are a little sketchy......... had a meal and went out that night to The Grasshopper, (i'm sure there are some kids playing at home who know where that is)....... was a little hungry afterwards so had a few slices of a ... read more

Only 3 nights left on tour. Today we went through the Rhine Valley to St Goar. Most of the morning was spent on the bus and the afternoon was full of fun. After a Rhine River Cruise we went wine tasting and tried the famous ice wine. We also bought a bottle to add to our collection of alcohol from the trip. It was a fun ride back to the hotel as everyone had had a fair bit to drink. We had a nice dinner at the hotel and continued drinking in the bar before we went back to our room to play drinking games. ... read more

Hi Guys, Day 3 on my tour & I need sleep!!! Spent 2 amazing days in Amsterdam! That city is gorgeous & a little rauncy. Went on a beautiful canal cruise & dinner for our 1st night & it was really really pretty. Walked around after, found a groovy pub & had a couple of beers. Next day took a bike ride tour around the city, those people are crazy, everyone rides bikes, trying to cross the road is a nightmare. In the evening we went to a floating Chinese restaurant for dinner & then a sex show in the Red Light District.....mmmm, is all I have to say about that. Set off at a nice time 8:30am for Germany, have seen clogs & cheese made, beer steins & cockoo clocks. We have a free hour ... read more

Hi all, Seems so long since I last wrote, can't really remember when that was so if I repeat I'm sorry. We went to Vienna in Austria and went to a Mazart and Strauss musuem. Very nice, getting all dressed up is also good for a change. Have been to sooooo many places recently that they tend to blur into one. After that we were in Munich, went to the Hofaurhaus sp? which is the most famous one in the world. Had to have a couple of drinks would have been rude not to. The drinks come in 1 litre steins, managed to get through a couple - was pleased with that effort. Earlier that day we had been to a Concentration camp in Austria. A really moving experience, many people were in tears after the ... read more

6:36pm Breakfast this morning was at 7:00 am… I think I woke up a little after 5:30 am this morning. Breakfast was the same, so I had 2 Melba toast and Dramamine. Packed my overnight bag and boarded the bus at 7:30. Adios, Amsterdam! The bus ride to Germany wasn’t so bad. Our first stop was in Cologne. We had a chance to go through the Cathedral, which was gorgeous. I got some really cool shots from the inside. We had about a half hour to kill before we had to meet, so we wandered around the train station. We stopped at a stand and had a delicious wurst croissant (€1.75) which tasted just like a corndog. Mmmm.. I also bought a smoothie later, but it was not so great (€2.75). The train station is right ... read more

After 2 hours of sleep we were up and ready for my day as tour guide. This also gave me the power that is the microphone on the bus, boy it was good. No-one was allowed to doze off as we travelled past Lake Thun, through amazing scenery on our way north through Switzerland and into Germany. The idea of Contiki Idol was put forth and after Mike started off with a rousing rendetion of Run To Paradise more people were willing to try out their vocal chords. Some great efforts especially by Shell and Kath, who put the rest of us who tried to sing to shame. Although as I sang Time of My Life with Sharlee, I am pretty sure her vocal abilities pailed into comparison lined up with me. Such frivolities involved with ... read more
