It still holds true even if you do wake up in the middle of the night and lay in your bed for 2 hours listening to people roll over in their sleep! Despite waking up a few times during the night I had a good sleep and got up at 7 for breakfast. The fruit salad was not very good, it tasted like it had been sitting too long. Other than that breakfast was very good. I even had half of a flax bun left over to add to my lunch. I went to the U-Bahn station (the underground) and after fighting with the machine for 10 minutes (turning the language to English helped) I got my ticket. The U-bahn station was a bit of a maze and two flights underground. I did manage to find ... read more

Germany:(Frankfurt, Neu-Isenburg, Pfungstadt, Stuttgart, Munich) So im here sitting at this computer starting a blog to give you updates and information about my travelling. So how did it start? Well, i just started in Frankfurt just pickin up my stuff getting ready and left my everything and started walking. After a few hours later of walking in the woods, i landed in the nice Neu Isenburg at a friends house i have not seen for a very long time. I just stayed there to have once more a good time before leaving, The next day after sleeping at my friends house, i started walking south gen darmstadt, got me some ponchos to prevent damage by rain. Did help though and when i reached Langen, a guy picked me up and drove me to Darmstadt something like ... read more

For our last morning in Kassel Helmar and his daughter Rebecca went all out and had a massive breakfast spread for us (just to have us gain a few more pounds before we head back), the meats (olive wurst is the best!), breads, cheeses, and spreads were just magnificent and if I actually spent some real time in Germany I am sure I would be obese! We had planned to get some things for friends and family and for me to get some bubble wrap for my giant bottle (the word for bubble wrap in German is about 75 letters long!) After getting everything we got back to Helmar’s house and I had to figure out how to pack everything up so it could be airplane ready. This was going to be quite a feat since ... read more

We slept well despite it being a very warm night and the hotel having no air conditioning!! Even though we power napped during the afternoon, we managed to sleep through until about five this morning. We didn't think this was too bad in terms of adjusting to local time. With most museums not opening until 10.00am we were not in a rush to get going. I worked on my travel diary until about 8.00am and then we showered and went down to breakfast. Considering that the hotel is only costing €73.00/night the breakfast buffet was quite a spread catering to all tastes with Asian, European and English options available. After leaving our bags in the hotel's luggage room we caught the tram to Willy-Brandt-Platz again. This time we walked though the gardens that follow the line ... read more

After disembarking, we cleared Immigration in record time as there was no queue at all when we arrived at the booths. Maybe most of the people on our flight were in the EU queue?? Whatever the reason, we are not complaining about making it through Immigration so quickly. From Immigration to the baggage carousel just in time to haul our bags of the belt - sweet. And then it was straight out the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel as we cleared Customs. There were no Customs staff anywhere to be seen?! We then took the SkyTrain from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 to catch the train into the city. With our Frankfurt Cards already purchased we were able to proceed straight to the platform to catch our train. After checking with a local, we established ... read more

In a first for us, we sourced house sitters from the Happy House Sitters website to look after the house and dogs during this trip. They coped OK with being put in kennels for three weeks last year, but we were reluctant to kennel Gidget and Finbar for seven weeks. Not being able to identify relatives or friends to take on the house/dog minding this year, we turned to the Internet. What a wonderful tool it is helping to match up people with properties available to be sat with people who are willing to house/dog sit!! Kerry dropped us at the airport and, in return, will look after our car for the next few weeks and then meet us at the airport when we return. After a quick coffee with us, she waved us off at ... read more

Friday night and Saturday 22nd We made our way to Changi Airport in a very rickety Toyota Crown taxi that sort of squirmed sideways when the driver tried to move off from standing and it certainly did not appreciate the 2 heavy suitcases and 2 carry-ons in the boot. It was very disconcerting to think that the driver was quite happy to be hurtling down the freeway in peak hour traffic at 110 kph seemingly without a worry in the world (we made up for that!). We were there at 6.00pm for our flight at (scheduled)11.30 pm, and of course you know it didn’t leave on time. With such a start to the next part of our journey we should have known that things would only go down from there… No upgrade!!! No understanding of the ... read more

Rising early as we have to get the camper back by 11.30, we did the final pack and clean of the van and head off to McRent to deliver our little home on wheels back. The final insult was the bloody Tomtom could not for the life of itself find the address, no matter how hard Pam tried, it kept on coming up with the wrong direction or 300kms to go. We knew it was around 30kms so here we were driving around Frankfurt not sure where we were going or where we were. Finally we remembered that you had to put in the postcode for German addresses, you know the Germans everything must have a number and paperwork. Finally arriving at McRent and getting hit for a new mirror for the one I damaged 56 ... read more

After 30 minutes delay leaving London and a further 30 minutes in a holding pattern over Frankfurt, we finally arrived in Germany. Going through immigration was a breeze as was Customs as none of the booths were manned so it was a walk through! We picked up up our camper from McRent and we are not impressed. It is NOT the internal configuration we choose and we couldn't change it. It is really small inside but we will just have to make do. Their comeback was that it is brand new, we are the first to use it.... so what, We need the space! We entered the Street address of the supermarket into our trusty friend Tomtom GPS and off we went. Very stressful for Mark driving a left hand vehicle on the wrong side of ... read more
