If It were possible to choose various countries and regions for this entry I certainly would... but alas. I have belatedly decided to start a blog, to keep people friends and family updated on my life and keep track of what I have done and where I have been, which has already taken up a good chunk of my old-fashioned hand-written journal. I will try to condense it here. Strasbourg I have been in France for over two months now and have taking advantage of every opportunity to travel and see more of Europe. I live in Strasbourg, Alsace which is a gorgeous city. If you are travelling in Europe, add it to your list. I believe it to be underrated, but that may just be the egoism of a foster- strasbourgeoise talking! The main reason ... read more

Hello All! So it's been a while since I last wrote. I have been busy exploring the sites, the tastes, and the smells of Paris. It is a place that overflows with history (and tourists). The actual Parisians that you see on the street always seem to be in a rush. I suppose that's the way of things once a city reaches a certain size. I've seen most of the famous sites including the Louvre, Versailles, the Eifel tower at night, and the Champs Elyesee. Some things have been great, others overwhelming in their scope (ie. the Louvre), yet others far too expensive for what they are. I love visiting Paris but I don't know if I'd like to live here (not the least reason being that it's insane to rent in Paris proper and in ... read more

Just in case you need to know, the French for ‘Trick or treat’ is: ‘Donnez-nous des bonbons ou nous vous jetons un mauvais sort’. Snappy eh? Just thought I’d share that with you, as it must be true, since I’ve just read it in today’s ‘La Depeche du Midi’. The countdown starts in earnest today. Tomorrow's the last full day before flying back to the UK on Monday, a day in London on Tuesday doing last minute bits and pieces, and Wednesday........flying to Bangalore.................... ... read more

Our one-day-power-visit to Paris began with an extremely early start, (woke up at about 3.30am then two buses to Waterloo station) as our Eurostar train left at 5.24am! The ride on the Eurostar was fairly uneventful - we were both still 95% asleep and dozed most of the way, but eventually we arrived at Gare de Nord in central Paris - ready to race around the city and see as much as possible! Unfortunately the day was dismal in the morning - freezing cold and raining too. Still, we soon found a bus tour and began to cruise around the city admiring the fantastic sites! We managed to see the more famous sites quite early - Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, The Lourve, the Eiffel tower, The Hotel des Invalides, the Avenue des Champs-Elysees and ... read more

Another update and hopefully it is not to far from the other one I posted otherwise I'm not up to date again. Well from the Mediteranean we went to a city called Toulouse which is not to far from the Spanish border so they have a big influence in this city. I wont be writing heaps on each place that we have gone to just the main things we did in the city, well in this place there is the longest complete Romanesque structure in the world so looked around there for awhile. We found out that your not allowed to sit on the grass (a police man was blowing his whistle and yelling in French at us saying something) what is with that I have no idea! In the city centre as with most of ... read more

In setting up this blog site the intention was to try to blog every time I visited a new place because I was sure my life would be so full of travel that I could fill you in frequently. Well I was wrong as I've planted myself in London and ditched my backpack ages ago. However I still could write a blog every day and you would probably be entertained. For now, I do want you all to know I'm still alive and haven't gone AWOL. Allow me to fill you in on the few but major points as I've already shown all my pictures while I was in Canada and mostly through Shutterfly. So here it is... 1- Riga, Lativa counts as the furthest east I've travelled in Europe. I don't have much to comment ... read more

Paris, 2 Novembre Okay, okay, so not a great day for pictures! We started early in the morning - by our new standards - to trudge up the Eiffel Tower. Skies were very heavy but the crowds were light. Until, of course, we got to the tower, and then they were immense. Happily, all those other thousands of people were waiting for the elevator. We were able to start right up. And up, and up, and up. Six hundred eighty-eight steps. That’s a good 250 more than St. Paul’s in London. Along the way, there are little landings with extremely interesting and important facts about the tower, its history, and Arnold Palmer, who drove a golf ball from the second level. A must read, to be sure. At least, that’s my story. From the second platform, ... read more

After buying some food including antipasto, cheese, salad, and wine, we had a spectacular dinner made by our host Sergio, in Riomaggiore. It was so much food and it was wonderful!! We all went to sleep and mom and I left the next day to go to a town south of France called Nice. We arrived and found a hotel near the train station and headed off to explore the town. It was a lovely little town with lots to see. It was near the ocean and had lots of great seafood. We had to change gears from listening and speaking Italian to French. The days we spent there inlcluded taking the train to Monaco and Monte Carlo which were towns only 15 minutes away. We actually joined a quick tour of the two towns on ... read more

In Harrogate, Hallowe’en seems to mean spending the evening of 31st October greeting a steady stream of cheerful young witches, wizards, ghosts and ghouls to the door threatening tricks if they don’t get their treats. Here in nearby Belesta, it’s something rather different, since the period round Hallowe’en is for them La Fete de la Citrouille - the Feast of the Pumpkin. Well, just look at those pictures. If you could grow pumpkins like that, wouldn’t you want to celebrate? Yesterday, we had real fun looking round on the first day, which was also their Vide-Grenier day (Empty Your Attics!). Pretty much like an English car boot sale really, except the stalls spread through the streets of the town. French attics and barns can turn out some splendidly puzzling tools and equipment, and as for the ... read more
