We awoke about 8 and got ready. We all went down for the nice breakfast buffet and filled up. We caught the shuttle bus to CDG and had an easy check in and security process. At the gate, we saw our daughter's friends and teachers and they were all so excited. The flight had about 50 open seats so we were fine for stand by travel. The girls sat in economy comfort and I took the open exit row that I had sat in on our previous flight to and from Paris in 2018. We were on Delta 501, A 767-300 aircraft. The flight was nice and smooth and we arrived on time. Once again, it was so nice to land directly in our home city! We were aircraft seat to home in under 30 minutes ... read more

Paris is like a new friend who you want to spend more time with, but there’s others you know you need to go and be with. I want to go home, but it would be nice to stay. I think it’s called escapism. It’s mid afternoon in the Shakespeare and Co. Cafe, at Rue de la Bucherie on the bank of the Seine. My window faces Notre Dame Cathedral, and tours led by yellow umbrellas, mysterious looking men I presume to be French, walking in slow motion, and the constant sound of motorcycles , ambulance sirens, and car horns, are all overshadowed by this church. The cafe is warm from the smell of savoury snacks and sweets, and berry crumble that you can get with a coffee for €7; don’t ask how I know. It feels ... read more

It’s a sad day today. Tim’s gone back to Luxembourg, as he has to, so I have the last 2 nights to myself before flying home to Australia. Today we slept in, Tim cooked a filling breakfast of delicate French mushrooms, spanish iberico chorizo, and semi cured cheese, followed by cereal and 2 cups of coffee. But I still can’t wait to go out and have a pastry. It’s going to stop soon, so I need to top up. It’s all about shopping, relaxing and a boat ride today. The first stop was Galeríes Lafayette, an up market store located near us, and it was just for a look at the interior, and a trip to the cafe observation deck at the roof level. Shopping’s not my thing and department stores are too confusing with their ... read more

Paris is slowly crawling into winter. It’s still a month away, but the cool chill in the wind, and the turning of the leaves to red and amber, tells me that winter is close. The leaves are holding onto branches for as long as they can, before floating to the ground, only to be trod into the damp paths, kicked around and played with by children, or scooped up by the many workers vacuuming the streets and parks, keeping Paris clean. Like Spaniards, the French love a cigarette, and happily drop the still burning butts at random, continuing an age old French tradition. You are never far from the smell of cigarettes or diesel fumes in Paris. Even the smallest cars are often diesel powered, adding to that fragrant, toxic cocktail of Paris. On a brighter ... read more

We awoke early to get the metro and RER to CDG airport. After a few days of great weather, it was windy and a little cool this day. The departure formalities at CDG were quick and easy. It was not long before we were off to Indianapolis on Delta 501, a 767-300 aircraft. The girls sat in economy comfort again, and I took the same exit row as coming out to Paris. I had another good meal, and many gin and tonics. The flight was very smooth. I watched the movie "The 15:17 to Paris", which I really liked. We arrived in on time in the late afternoon to Indianapolis. Customs and Immigration was quick and easy. I think we made it from aircraft seat to our house in under 30 minutes. So nice to get ... read more

Paris has great transport options. It is also a great city to walk, and we did a lot of it. We took the metro down to the Musee d'Orsay. It was not overly crowded, and was a fun experience. Like I said before I am hit and miss when it comes to art, but I liked this museum. Before leaving we had a snack. We then walked to the Cathedral Notre Dame. We hung out there an hour or so and then walked towards the Louvre. Along the way we stopped and had lunch at a place called Au Vieux Chatelet which was pretty good. Once we got to the Louvre, we relaxed on some chairs in the Tuileries Gardens until sunset. We took a few photos and watched the sunset views of the Eiffel Tower. ... read more

We awoke at around 8 I believe, and got ready to head out. We rode the metro to see the Arc de Triomphe. Our daughter wanted to see all the sights that she had seen 11 years before. After getting the photos, we walked down Avenue Kleber towards the Trocadero. We were on the lookout for a place to eat lunch, and found that in a place called Chez Zhong. We had a great meal, served by a very nice staff. It was then just a short walk down to the Trocadero for the Eiffel Tower photo ops. We did a leisurely walk down to the river bank, and across the bridge to the tower. Our daughter rode the carousel and took the same photo that she did 11 years before. The whole area around the ... read more

Arrival into CDG airport was routine. We cleared immigration, and went down to get the RER to the city. It was a packed ride, and it was hot. I couldn't wait to exit the train. Once we got to Gare du Nord, we then rode the metro to the Brochant station, which was close to our hotel. The hotel was Hotel Mirific. Even though it was early, the staff were wonderful, and they had a room ready for us. We put up our stuff and changed then went across the street for some lunch. The place was called Kashmir Good Chicken, and well, it was good. We then walked all the way to the Sacre-Couer. We walked so that we could get some sun and exercise. We had never been to the site and seen the ... read more

Delta had begun a nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Paris, and this would be our first ride on it. It is so convenient to not have to connect anywhere! We planned on maybe visiting another place in Europe, but our daughter really wanted to see Paris again. She had only been once, and it was in 2007. We decided to just visit Paris, and the weather was amazing! For this trip, we were going to be doing something we had not done in a long time. That is fly in coach on a long haul flight. Although our flights were wide open to travel stand by, there would be no way to get upgraded due to the front cabin being full. Indianapolis to Paris was Delta 500, a 767-300 aircraft. We were given a row of ... read more

Here is the last blog for quite a while. Not that we don't travel, but nobody needs 5 blogs about the same places over the years! September and October are pretty moving months...started in Costa Rica, little overnight stop in New York, home, Lubumbashi, Kinshasa, Malta, Paris, Lubumbashi, home, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Phuket, Bangkok....home...and to finish October, I hope my 158th country visited! So hopefully, the next blog will only come early November! So I could have done more than one blog about this little French escapade....but i guess you have suffered way too many blogs since the middle of July. So here it is, all in one, Chateau de Chantilly, Musee Picasso and Le Marais, Chateau de Versailles, the Sunday at the Ryder Cup...and a Monday in Montmartre...truly romantic program! This week-end, there is ... read more
