Zum ... read more

Ich nahm ... read more

We’ve reached the final week in Paris before heading back to the US for the winter months. We had quite a bit of “housekeeping chores” before leaving as well as deciding what we needed to take home, take stock of what we needed to buy back in the US to bring back to the boat, set up with someone in the marina to “watch” the boat while we were away, setting up the dehumidifier to drain into the sink, and eat down the food we still had in the refrigerator/freezer. Even with the need to do these things we wanted to check out a few more places in Paris before leaving. Our marina neighbors told us about a small museum that they enjoyed – it is dedicated to one artist, Auguste Rodin. It sounded like a ... read more

This week we didn’t spend much of it in Paris as we decided to take a train trip to Freiburg, Germany to see our close friends that we first met up with years ago when we lived in Botswana. It has been a friendship that has survived the years and distance so we wanted to take the time to see them again as we within a few hours of them by train. Before our trip to Germany we decided it was time to finally get over to one of the most famous icons of Paris, the Eiffel Tower. We definitely got to see it from quite the angle when we first motored past it upon arrival in Paris a month ago, but now it was time to see it from land. Fortunately the day was a ... read more

I arrived without a glitch... all flights great on Iceland Air. Went through customs there which was a breeze. I did not check luggage so once out of airport directly to taxi rank and NO LINE! Driver takes me immediately and sets meter at €55 (should be 50 to my area and 55 to Paris Center) As we get going I see the meter rising... 62 and I question him and he says it is an "off day". I keep questioning him and when it hits 75.10 he turns it off! It was All Saints Day so perhaps he was right.. He got me to my door and I gave him €75 even. I packed very light knowing this building had four flights of very narrow stairs and I and my 26" and small backpack just ... read more

Tuesday - October 11 – Versailles – With the weather still very pleasant we decided to take short train trip to visit the Palace at Versailles. We sure are spoiled by the public transportation available here in Europe! When we got off the train with the flood of other people we wondered what it would be like to get around. We bought our tickets ahead of time online which definitely saved some time as we only had to go through the security checkpoint, rather than waiting in line to buy tickets. We chose Tuesday to visit as we found out on line that they have music with the water fountains and thought that would be interested to see and hear. When we got there we were going to go to the gardens first, but once inside ... read more

Tuesday - Oct 4 - Day 1- As mentioned in the previous blog entry we are now in Paris. Of course the first day we had to do the basics first – check in with the marina office, take a shower and then take a short walk around the area. From the marina you can see the Bastille Monument and close by is the new Opera House. Our main mission for this walk however was to get to a store to buy a baguette – we know what is important! When back onboard we opened the bottle of champagne we had been chilling for a few days. Sipping that with French bread and cheese made for a perfect ending of our arrival day in Paris. Wednesday - Oct 5 –Day 2 (first full day!) - The ... read more

Paris - Day 4 Decided to split up today… A girl’s day and a boy’s day. Grant left at 8 am to beat the cue for the Eiffel Tower and I stayed in bed, for a slow start. By all accounts he had a great day. Buddied up with a guy from Cincinnati Ohio at the top whose wife had also gone awal and they had coffee together. He then went to the Musee of Maritime. Meanwhile I walked down the Boulevard Haussmann to the Printemps and Lafayette Galleries. I did a couple of rounds of both but total concept shops, a bit intimidating with beautiful assistants standing around looking totally bored. As I had been sent out with my escorts credit card, I felt a small Julia Roberts moment. Not really my scene so off ... read more

Paris – Day 3 Left early for Versailles. Pick up was late due to traffic jam at the end of the street. Large truck just stops in the middle of the road of unload about 5 pellets of beverage. All converging streets come to a halt… tooting, yelling etc. Seemed to be of no concern the truck driver who just went about his business. Picked up two other couples, one couple from Phoenix, who were staying at an AirB (i.e no second B) on a boat on the Seine. I don’t think they were that pleased with their quality of accommodation but had the best view of anyone, straight onto the Eiffel Tower! Finally get onto motorway into a traffic jam due to accident. This was stressing the guide out as they have their slots booked ... read more
