Paris Day 2 Needn’t have worried about the fat tyre bike tour! It was great fun. We took a taxi to the Dupress station area to make sure we were in the right place then had something to eat in a café (really nice duck). A little disconcerting having the meeting place directly outside the pharmacy promoting braces and bandages etc. Anyway lovely tour guide Tony, measured us up for our bikes and don’t forget the high viz vest. Helmet never mentioned! (Crazy Paris traffic would be interesting to know stats on Car vs bike) Of we went at about 7.20 18 little yellow ducklings following behind Orange Mother duck (Tony). As we left the drizzle became quite heavy but no time to stop for poncho – must keep up. According to Tony’s instructions there were ... read more

Lyon to Paris Vacated our stateroom by 8.30 and enjoyed our last breakfast on ss Catherine. Very sad to say goodbye and psyching up for getting back to looking after ourselves. Filled in the morning doing blog photos admin and then got the taxi with a couple of our Uniworld buddies to Lyon train station. We were both on the TGV to Paris but had to split up on boarding as our seats were at opposite ends of the train (Two trains joined together). The trip was two hours and we arrived by taxi from the station at our hotel by 3 pm. Fortunately, we looked over our itinerary on the train to find we were booked into a restaurant for dinner. Being kiwis and not knowing where we were going we left early and we ... read more

Sorry no blog yesterday. Quiet day. We walked to Clamart (the next town over). Then there was soccer and relaxing. Today we decided to have one last bike ride. We decided to follow the same bike trails that we ride on one of our first days here. The trails that led to Chateau de Sceaux. It was so fun the first time but this time the destination was to find a quaint place to eat lunch. This time the ride seemed to go much faster as we knew where we were going and also took a slightly more direct route to get to the start of the trail. It is a nice ride with lots and lots of hills. We did not find a place to eat on the way there but once in Sceaux, there ... read more

Today was amusement park day! We went to the Parc Asterix just north of Paris. It was mainly cloudy but got sunny later in the day, perfect for a day walking of around. We all had a great time. The only downside was the large number of smokers. We really are spoiled back in Ontario where you seldom even see a cigarette. There are lots of smokers in Paris and they can smoke anywhere, even in lines for rides! So, after a whole day of exposure, I think we were all feeling a little woozy (plus the effects of the rides of course). Correction from yesterday's blog - should have been Bois de Boulogne (the park in Paris we rode around)... read more

This morning, Nigel and I left the kids and took off on our bikes to Clamart to sit at a Brasserie and people watch (like the French spend so much time doing). It was the hottest day we have had so far (28 degrees but no humidity) and so it was quite nice sitting out in the sun relaxing. We were astonished that the boulangerie next door had a lineup out the door and down the street! We were also amused when the brasserie staff dashed next door into the boulangerie and came out with 6 baguettes simply calling out "six" letting them know he was taking six baguettes! So, after we sat for a while, we decided that we had better see what the fuss was about so we got in line and got some ... read more

Today was another "Big City" day en velo (bike). We took a more cycle friendly route this time which was nice. Mainly either bike paths (our favourite) or bike lanes (shared with buses - our second favourite) and some roads with bike lanes on the side (our third favourite). Straight to Cathedral de Notre Dame which was really crowded. So, we found an area off to the side which was fairly vacant and after a bird perched on the statue above us pooped on Russell, we figured out why the area was so empty. And moved on to the Ile Saint Louis to ride around a little. This is where Rachel got pooped on (and this particular poop was so big it took a few hours to actually dry......it was the size of a loony). Then ... read more

Another day of sightseeing and maybe some shopping. You guessed it, no bag fairy again so a few more personal items and a new suitcase. On the bus at the Eiffel Tower and around the city to Notre Dame de Paris. At last we get to go in to this icon of Paris. Queues aren't too bad and we don't have to pay so even better. Inside and it is rearly just ABC. Very dark but it does have some beautiful stained glass windows. Out into the sunlight and onto another bus route for a look around. This tour take sus past the French equivalent of the NYC high line so we get off and do the walk. Very calming amongst the traffic, etc. Down to street level and we need a drink/toilet break so we ... read more

Another overcast day. We decide to do shops today to replenish some of Chris's lost (missing) clothes. Go to the end of our street and there is a clothes shop. Chris goes in and after a little while we leave with 3 tops. Happy camper and so close to home. They go straight back to the apartment and we start again. By this time, the breakfast specials are finishe so we stop for lunch. Tiny bar with tables so close that to get I you pull the table out and slide I. Then pull the table back. Real meet your neighbour stuff here. Good food at reasonable prices. Is this place in Paris? Fed and watered we head to the hop on hop off bus to get us to the main shopping street and the Lafayette ... read more

the bag fairy didn't appear overnight so now we have to just wait. Up and away to explore a bit including a visit to a shopping department store not far from where we are staying. Wander down to the Eiffel Tower for shots to prove we really are in Paris. sexurity is huge around the tower. They have temporary fences surrounding the entire structure and you have to go through airport type scans before even getting in ot the leg area. We decide not to go in as we have the dinner booked for tomorrow night. We check out where we have to go and then wander off into the distance. As we walk along the street we come to a building that has photo boards along the fence With stories about each one. Turns out ... read more

Another sleep in and then finish packing bags. Out just before our deadline of 1200. Where does the time go. Wander down to the metro, only a 200 metre walk. Ask for a ticket to the airport - lots of hand signals - no english here. Tickets dispensed, then to find our platform. Signs very confusing. Luckily we get an English speaking guy who helps us to the right platform, back up a level and the. To the next station where we connect with the airport train. Very simple really........ Off at out terminal stop and to the departures lounge. Earlier than needed so we find a food place to have some brunch. Realise we have put a bunch of liquids in our hand luggage that won't get thorough security so have to re-pack bags again. ... read more
