Today we had to say goodbye to Epernay and drive 370km to the eastern part of France, and the Strasbourg area in Alsace. The drive was not tiring as we were on the A roads at 130km most of the time. Half way we stopped at Verdun where there is a WW1 memorial and museum depicting the struggles of both the French and German Army's in the 300 day war during 1914. While I an not a war enthusiast, you have to admire the resilience and sacrifices that so many made for their country. I always think that there has to be a better way to resolve disputes! Sorry there is no photos, we took about 150 and they have been lost, we think the spirits of the solders didn't want us taking photos. On to ... read more

Awestruck!Gobsmacked! Last year we saw a few of the famous Châteaux of the Loire Valley, for which sadly I did not write anything, but I've been very much infatuated with France ever since and had made a mental note to do further research on other cultural/touristy places that are worth visiting and it goes without saying that what France has to offer in terms of history, culture, sights is absolutely incredible! Breathtaking landscape and astonishing little villages galore. I am so much in love with this country, so very much! I love people's obvious sense of community, which is definitely something you work on for years and years, I love their idea of Villes et Villages Fleuris!!!! Basically, from what I understand, they have this annual contest between towns ... read more

Where to begin. The day seemed like we covered much ground, but really was just in Strasbourg. Strasbourg is a unique town. Some of the people living there have had to change their nationality 4 times in their lives. These are old people. Strasbourg has been a French town now since the end of WWII. It was French, then German, then French, then German, now French. They have a river that runs around the town, not so much in the mode of San Antonio, with shops for food places. These are buildings and places that are older than the US. The Alsace region is known for its wine and grape production. Some grain was raised by the farmers before they started making wine. The Romans had a tax office there, and the town was critical in ... read more

Hello everybody, I hear you'all are " sweating to the oldies" over there! Coolish here about 65F, some rain. Tomorrow we will go up to see some old friends in Germany. Stay 2 nights and than come back to Stuttgart on Thursday to visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Today we did a few more villages in the Alsace. Obernai and Dambach le Ville. More grocery shopping which is more difficult here in France than in Germany or Austria. I have to admit they have excellent potatoes and wonderful mustard. OK OK the wine is good too! Hard to believe that we have been here 10 days already. We leave France on the 30th to go up to Belgium. It will be a nice change of scenery. It is a 8-9 hour train trip. But it will be ... read more

Sainte Odile in beşiği sayılmaktadır. Odile ,Alsace ın sahibi olan Etichon-Adalric in kızıdır. Burası vakti zamanında Alsace düklerinin babalarının çiftliği imiş… Obernai adına ilk 1240 yılındaki kayıtlar... read more
