Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681Then New Years in Denmark was good with 3 people from Dublin, 'AnS' and 'MK', everyone has fireworks as they aren't illegal like in Ireland & everyone lets them off together at these lakes in the middle of the city & it was very impressive but bit like I imagine Beirut is! We started off on Woodstock bar in Christiana & end up in Blågårds apotek in Norrebro complete with clackers & streamers & blowy noise things, so I think you can imagine how the night went ...... read more

31st December - got to Copenhagen safely after the train and boat journey!.. and again, much to my delight... SNOW!! and Fred to meet us! In the afternoon it was just catching up time with Fred and grabbing the last minute things we needed for our duties of punch making and preparations for our NY's celebrations at her friend Karma's uni dorm. Things that the NY's uni party consisted of.... 8 floors in the university dorm 4 kitchens on each floor a dinner party at almost every kitchen (ours consisted of about 15 people) the roof offered the best spot for sighting fireworks over the whole of Copenhagen the basement offered a party that continued until dawn After sorting out the decorations and punch, while others were sorting the arrangement of furniture and dinner (with the ... read more

An Aussie Scout on Scout Scoop Denmark pt 1 After a lot of packing, repacking and double checking the night before, I set off on the 10:40am train from Aalborg to Fredericia. Unfortunately, Jens had not been able to reserve me a seat in the non-smoking section so I was stuck with the smokers which made the 2 hour journey, less enjoyable. Though the journey seemed long it also was stunning because though it had only begun to snow in Aalborg, other areas of Jutland were covered in white. Despite the delays due to the snow, I still managed to arrive only half an hour late. At this point I found Nat, one of my fellow Aussie exchangee’s was excited as I was to see another Aussie. Then due to our loud Aussie greetings, one of ... read more

We got up late on the day before Christmas and then went to visit some of Jens’ and Karin’s old neighbours for drinks it was interesting as I ran into a scout leader for the green scouts who was really interesting to talk to. We left after a few hours and a few carols. We went to church at around 3 pm. We went to Karin’s church which was on the other side of the fjord. Jens had to go back and get Mofa because we forgot him! The service was very lovely and Karin’s choir performed. At the end we lit little candles and sang a carol. It was very nice. We then had a hour before the guests started to arrive at Jens’ and Karin’s. So we put all the Christmas presents in the ... read more

After a fairly late start we began cleaning up before lunch. Afterwards, Jens told me to get some warm clothes on as we were going to the north shore. I did as he asked and in 30 minutes my host family, Kiki and I were on our way. Along the way my host parents pointed out several things such as the Aalborg Airport and the farm from which they had gotten Kiki. After driving for around 30 minutes, we reached Blokhus, where a few pubs and restaurants sat closed. Waiting, as Jens told me, for summer and all its visitors. Unfortunately, Like these restaurants, the batteries for my camera had died for the umpteenth time, due to the cold weather. We then continued on to the beach. Karin pointed out to me that the beach was ... read more

So for the past week I have been wrapping presents, window shopping, tagging along with my host sisters it has been good and I now have pictures of the giant Christmas tree from Norway ( I didn’t get a photo of the ice chunk from Greenland because it had melted too much..). I got very excited on the 18th because when I got up and had breakfast I discovered that it was snowing outside (well not really just a little bit and it didn’t last for more than 5 minutes on the ground.) I got very excited and was rushing around telling everyone it was snowing. Jens rushed up to find out what I was getting so loud about and was relieved to discover I had not broken the fridge again. He told me it wasn’t ... read more

On Friday the grade fives performed the Christmas play again for the whole school. In Kathrine’s class as some people were not going to be there on Saturday, we had cake and played the present game. With a twist, that once everyone had a present when they rolled a six on the dice instead of stealing other peoples gifts they swapped gifts with who ever they wanted. I got a strawberry flavoured candy cane On Friday night my host sisters played in a music concert where at the music school where they get lessons. Then we went to the break-up of youth group where we had pizzas for dinner and then had choc banana Sunday for dinner. We then watched Home alone (the original) and had a competitions similar to those at the scout break-up. ... read more

Tonight was the St. Mary’s School Christmas concert. My host mum told me that every year the grade 5 class perform the Christmas Story. Both my host sisters have been the angel Gabrielle but this year they are playing in the band. As I got in the car I smacked my head and then the door swung in and hit the other side of my head. Luckily we still had a bit of time so my host dad got me some Panadol and an ice pack to use. We arrived early as my host sisters were playing before the concert began as well as during it. The concert was held in the St Mary’s Church. Anna played with both the Little Big Band and the Big Band. The little big band played first and one of ... read more

Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681They are big into the Xmas markets here, so as my sister in law was here for 5 days we hit the one in Forum which was really good, much better than Tivoli. Also we saw more jazz in jazzhouse with her & she did even more shopping & we brought her to our fave restautant in Christiana called Spiseloppen which has about 6 meat dishes & always one good vege one so everyone is happy. And some good walks all muffled up all over the city.Didn't go to the work Christmas party as feel the language barrier would be an issue when alcohol consumed. Think it was on the work premises where I understand the meal was meat meat & more meat & ends at midnight, so no Leeson St. then ...... read more
