OMG~ as soon as we drove into Austria, my heart skipped a beat. Gorgeous green mountains, rivers, lush green grass and the friendliest people on the planet. Always smiling and helpful even when they don’t understand us. The day started off very well with a gorgeous mountain bike ride through the forest, mountain and along the river. The ride was 10kms long stopping half way of a nice lunch in a traditional house. It gave me time to think, this world has so much to offer and traveling is the one thing I will never stop doing. Breathing in the fresh air and seeing these mountains made me realize why city slickers go for the sea change or green change. It’s amazing and the best place so far on my trip. After the mountain bike ... read more

These are the names of the two Villages south of Innsbruck where our campsite was. Innsbruck center was full of beautiful buildings but unfortunately full of tourists. So we decide to skip Salzburg which is supposedly even more touristy than Innsbruck and go to the less visited Graz in southern Austria (Steiermark or Styria province) and spend four nights there. This involves taking a train to Leoben in northern Styria where we will begin our cycle down the Mur river through Graz to the Slovenian and Hungarian borders. On the train we meet and chat with two pleasant retired women from Burgenland (eastern Austria) and a Californian couple who have spent their last five vacations cycling in Austria. ... read more

Liechtenstein very confusing for cycling. We seem to be going in circles and spend a lot of the day in this very small country - the size of Surrey? And it´s generally a drizzly day from lunch onwards except for the time we are in the train from Feldkirch Austria to Innsbruck. We need to make this long trip by train to avoid the 1000 meter 32 swtichback climb we had planned to do to cross the Arlberg Pass and also to catch up to our schedule which is to put us into Vienna on the 23rd. About 3 p.m. one older man saves the day for us in Liechtenstein as he orders us to 'Halt' from his car as we proceed down a dead end road. He gruffly tells us to go up a ... read more

Hallo from Innsbruck! The train ride from Verona to here was spectacular. The plan was to stop here for 2 nights on our way to Munich, but we've fallen in love with this place and have been here now for 4 nights. This place is beautiful with so much to do, and with one discount card so cheap. On our second day we took 2 cable cars up the mountains over 2300m where we threw snowballs at each other and made a snowman, it was Neetz's first time in the snow. Would you believe it's summer here? After defrosting we went to the small Alpenzoo where we made fun of the mooses. Our third day we took the shuttle bus out to the famous Swarovski Crystal Worlds which was pretty cool. After that we went ... read more

After leaving Hallstatt we were on way to Innsbruck. Th train trip was real postcard stuff, mountains, lakes, rivers all the way. We had to change trains at a place named Stainach. While we were scoffing down breakfast on the platform an old local came up to us for a bit off a chat. This is one of the things Glenn really likes, finding out the inside info from the locals. Turned out this guy was 85 years old and on his way out for a bit of mountain climbing. He told us he had climbed all of the mountains in the local area, the last one around 2000 metres when he was 83. Quite an amazing bloke. We arrived in Innsbruck early in the afternoon and after checking into our hotel headed straight out ... read more

On my return trip back to Kramsach in my favorite area of Europe...Tirol...my beautiful wife Erin was able to join me. We had a three day weekend, and the way my current work schedule allowed me to leave early in the day (kind of a recurring theme). Since we already shipped the RAV-4 back to the states, we decided to rent a car (even though my 1995 4-cyclinder leather-interior Honda Accord is really tough, it lacks speed) in order to expedite our 5.5 hour journey down to Austria. Unfortunately, even having a European-spec car (granted, it was French) didn't help lessen the impact that 7 hours of driving does on one's butt. We failed to realize that May 28 was a European holiday, hurdling an unprecedented mass of metal in the direction of the Alps. ... read more

First of all...where was the time going? I realized what a strange sensation it was to have every day so full and seem to drag on forever, but to have the time passing at a rate much too quick for my liking. I woke up this morning and ate some more bread and jam. Mmm. We ate quickly, and when we were finished, we went to our respective rooms and packed up. I took the easy way down - the lift! There was no way I had the energy to drag my suitcase down the stairs, though I have to say, I don't know how it got so much heavier...I hadn't bought THAT much. Strange. Anyway, I dropped off my bag and boarded the coach. I sat with Sara today, which was great. We talked shop ... read more

Adam Hendricks found out that his internship started earlier than he had planned and he only has one month left around Europe, so we decided to have a quick and productive weekend by traveling to the other side of Austria and hit up the Alps in Innsbruck. With a quick 6 hour afternoon train ride, we found ourselves at the foothills of the Northern Alp region. The views coming into the cities were awesome, with mountains towering up on both our right and left hand side. Although a lot of the low level snow has already melted, the high peaks were still snow capped and spectacular to look at. Once we got off the train, it decided to start raining, which made it a little difficult to figure out where to go next. We had ... read more

Oops...so we have been having a little bit too much fun to update our blog for a while, but here goes! Last time we wrote we were in Barcelona. Since then we have visited Nice (France), Orvieto, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Venice (Italy), Novalja (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and are now in St Johann in the Austrian Tirol region. Let me start at the beginning then. Nice was a lovely change from rushing around everywhere. The weather was perfect and we were able to spend a couple of days lazing around on the French Riviera eating baguettes and gelati. We found some amazing markets while lost in the back streets of Nice and just enjoyed wandering. We went to see 'the tower that leans' on our way to Florence, taking the obligatory tourist photos pushing it over. ... read more

After Venice we were sooooo glad to be in Austria. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the mountains driving in, and were just even more amazed when we arrived at Innsbruk, a town surrounded by 'the hills that are alive with the sound of music'. It was so nice to be in a place of natural beauty. Our campsite even had amazing mountain views. We arrived in Innsbruk on 25 April Europe time - KELLIE'S BIRTHDAY. So we went down to the restaurant down the road and had lunch to see if it was any good for a birthday dinner. We wanted to eat light so Kellie had a salad that was lovely, but craig, his meal was a different story. What he thought he had ordered was meat and cheese with bread. What ... read more
