We have been married for 2 years and are just beginning our travels. Craig has never been outside Australia, and Kellie has limited travelling history.
We are excited to be travelling to Europe at the moment as our first big trip together (we miss our two Lab Retrievers left to guard our home)

Our visit to Belgium and Brussels in particular ended up being quite a whirlwind visit. This was our last destination for visiting and quite frankly - we were OVER IT! So we decided to park our van in the city, jump on a 'jump on jump off tour bus' that we didnt plan to jump off, and we toured the whole city and its sites with commentary. This was a great way to see a lot in a short time. We then stopped at a belgium chocolate shop and bought some genuine praline goodies (sorry but we cannot take these home with us so we will have to finish them off!) and then headed to PIZZA HUT for a genuine Belgium lunch (sorry, not very european but boy was it delicious - we are pretty ... read more

Our third and last day with Syliva, it was fun to take her to a place she had never been in all her years of Amsterdam - the Keukenhof Flower gardens which we were told were the largest flower gardens in the world. Sylvia had never been simply because its such a touristy thing to do, plus its only open very few weeks of the year so we were lucky to catch it on our trip. It turned out to be such a beautiful way to spend the day and not too touristy - much less crowded and great to wind down after Queens Day. The afternoon saw Craig go and play golf at Noordwijkse golf course while Sylvia and Kellie sat in a cafe on the beach and sipped Ice Teas and relaxed. Once ... read more

I think the pictures will show you all just how amazing Queens Day is in Amsterdam. But for a bit of a run down, here is the description of what we saw. We started the day getting a feel for what Queens Day is traditionally about - The Queen of Holland and her extensive Royal family go to two different small towns within Holland on this day each year, and join in local festivities. Watching this live broadcast on their TV as fascintating as due to being Australian, we didnt even know who they were, and yet they are massive celebraties in Europe. Sylvia gave us a bit of a run down on who all the family members were. Then, we got down to business - seeing Amsterdam in all her glory in the Celebrations ... read more

Craig's mother's cousin Sylvia who has lived in Amsterdam all her life was kind enough to spend several days with us showing us her much beloved city. And you can see why she loves it so much. Firstly she took us to the flower markets which were amazingly cheap for such gorgeous tulips. We then walked through the art markets before finding a secret door that took us into a little oasis - a circular block of apartments with a garden and church in the middle. This block of homes in the past were homes ONLY for Catholic single women (see the statue in the photo of how the ladies use to dress), and even today you can only live there if you are Catholic and single. This courtyard is also home to a 'secret' ... read more

Leaving Innsbruck, the action plan was to drive the romantic road and see the castles before heading to Augsburg where craig would play golf and we would stay the night. We drove to the two famous castles on the romantic road, the Schloss Newschwanstein (will refer to as News), and the Schloss Hoenschwangau (will refer to as Hoen). This place was a tourist mecca. The Hoen was originally built in around 1200 but has been destroyed many times, and I doubt any of the original is there still. Basically, the King of Bavaria, ill call him Max for short, (now part of germany but once its own kingdom) found this sight and thought he was rebuild it. This was in the 1800s, so not really that long ago, but its built in the romantic style ... read more

After Venice we were sooooo glad to be in Austria. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the mountains driving in, and were just even more amazed when we arrived at Innsbruk, a town surrounded by 'the hills that are alive with the sound of music'. It was so nice to be in a place of natural beauty. Our campsite even had amazing mountain views. We arrived in Innsbruk on 25 April Europe time - KELLIE'S BIRTHDAY. So we went down to the restaurant down the road and had lunch to see if it was any good for a birthday dinner. We wanted to eat light so Kellie had a salad that was lovely, but craig, his meal was a different story. What he thought he had ordered was meat and cheese with bread. What ... read more

After our flight on the balloon it was jumping straight back into the van and off to Venice. Arriving in Venice we got a campsite with a view of the water - well we thought that would be 'serene' but with MASSIVE MASSIVE BARGES AND SHIPS going past making noise every 10 mins it didnt turn out that way - Dad you would have loved it! We took the afternoon just to chill out and play a Yatzee tournament (Craig won), as we were still a bit over the whole siteseeing tourism rush from Rome. The next day we took the ferry across to Venice, and when we arrived, we said to eachother, "this is not going to be as good as we think it will be", and surely enough, it was a let down, ... read more

We have to apologise for the delay in getting the latest blogs to you all. Its been near impossible to find WIFI internet, or any internet for that matter in Italy, and therefore we have not been able to upload the photos etc. Following from the hussle and bussle of Rome we were greatly looking forward to the change of pace of Tuscany. Reaching the countryside, it was almost an instant feeling of relaxation. The scenery was simply beautiful. Our purpose for our visit to Tuscany was that tomorrow morning we would be going on a hot air balloon ride. We were only going to be in Tuscany for one night due to our hectic schedule, so we figured what better what to see the countryside, and see much of Tuscany in a short period ... read more

Arriving in Rome we were feeling the pretty tired so we took the afternoon off to relax, leaving us two full days to come of siteseeing. Day 1 was siteseeing Vatican City, and this was fantastic. St Peters Basillica was amazing - and it was one of few things to see that were FREE! We went to the Vatican Museum where the line was all the way around the block, so Craig pulled a swifty and casually joined the not so orderly line about two metres before the entrance. So we didnt have to wait two hours, and nobody even said anything. The vatican museum was quite good however I have never seen so many people be squeezed through so many small hallways. You have to walk through many many rooms and hallways on your ... read more

Today we drove to Pisa (only about 4.5 hours) and during this drive we saw (from a distance) Nice, and Monacco and the other small towns that line the Sea. We finally got out of France (we really didnt enjoy france much at all) and into a new country, the country Kellie has wanted to go to forever - Italia! It was the first time we had seen a boarder check - but he didnt stop us, it must just be a random check of passports etc. The instant change in scenery from ritzy houses on the hills to shanty houses with terrances of olive trees and other shrubs was very dramatic. However what didnt change were the tunnels! tunnel after tunnel, bridge after bridge, it was phenomenal how much money they spend on infrastructure ... read more
