Innsbruck Campsite
Our campsite in Innsbruck After Venice we were sooooo glad to be in Austria. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the mountains driving in, and were just even more amazed when we arrived at Innsbruk, a town surrounded by 'the hills that are alive with the sound of music'. It was so nice to be in a place of natural beauty. Our campsite even had amazing mountain views.
We arrived in Innsbruk on 25 April Europe time - KELLIE'S BIRTHDAY. So we went down to the restaurant down the road and had lunch to see if it was any good for a birthday dinner. We wanted to eat light so Kellie had a salad that was lovely, but craig, his meal was a different story. What he thought he had ordered was meat and cheese with bread. What arrived was sort of a cheese platter. it had roast pork slice, a slice of bacon but the bacon was a thick uncooked peice of meat, and then several cheeses - one that craig said smelled and tasted like a SOLVENT/SOME KIND OF ADHESIVE, plus a goo that we didnt know what it was, and a dip that was sort of OK. it was
Pub
The nice pub we went to for lunch and dinner on Kellies Birthday just very FOREIGN to craig, and we all know craig does not usually try anything new when it comes to food - but he did, he tried to eat as much as he could .. without bringing it all back up. It was enough to turn Kellie off her food. so that was not a success. However we could see all these amazing meals coming out to all the other people there, giant schnitzels, and giant cordon blu's - so we decided to try again tonight.
We then headed off in the afternoon to the Alpenzoo - the HIGHEST ZOO IN EUROPE and believe me - they reminded you of it - the whole thing was on a massive hill. Im telling you, we have been getting our exercise with all the walking, and boy oh boy this day was even worse - it was just exhausting. And not really that great BUT, one exhibit was worth every single calorie burned (it was at the bottom of the hilll though so we probably could have avoided walking up the hill anyway) - the star attraction - a bear. Kellie just loves bears - and she got what she needed
Innsbruck
The main street of Innsbruck out of this exhibit - he was beautiful!!! Named Bruno (Brown in italian) - Bruno seemed a bit lonely, but he was so cute. His display had a little waterfall and real fish swimming at the bottom so he spent lots of time trying to catch the fishies..it was really cute.
That night we went for a bithday dinner at the restaurant, and this time it was fantastic. Kellie had the cordon Blu which was fantastic - but way too big and filling and it came with fries and a side salad - Kellie ate too much (thats her middle name). Craig had the most amazing thick steak cooked medium (they always cook medium - they dont ask you how you want it over here - well no one has asked us anyway) - and it was a bit rare for Kellie's tastes but craig said it was beautiful. And with vegetables that Kellie ate (yes, she even ate that - tummy pains after that) and fries. We then had chocolate moose for desert (Kellie needs to go lie down after that). It was simply delicious and a fantastic birthday dinner.
The next day we went to the
Bruno
Bruno the bear famous olympic ski jump which had a lovely little cafe at the top, and amazing views from the platform at the top - and we were the only ones up there on the platform. It was the wierdest thing, to go from Yukky venice where it was a hole, but there were thousands of tourists, to somewhere like this, which was simply breathtaking and unique, and be the only tourists up there. there were a few business people in the cafe just below, and there were a couple of tourists milling around at the bottom, but it was virtually deserted. See pictures for amazing views.
we then caught the siteseeing bus around town but there is not a heck of a lot to see, there is an 'old town' centre which is filled with fantastic shops, but not a lot else. We went to the Bell Museum which was free (well included on this Innsbruck card) and it was interesting and something to do but not that thrilling or anything. But it was a really nice day.
