Friends and Family, I didn't manage to get to a computer last week during my trip to the Dominican Republic so I've complied some photos to let you know how it all went. Cara and I wer lucky to have lots of sushine for our stay at the Casa Marina Reef Hotel in Sosua, near Peurto Plata. Due to my early injury body boarding and the subsequent 10 stitches (and I should mention that I recieved excellent medical assistance from a very competent doctor), we were mostly sitting back on the beach and soaking in the sunshine for the first couple days. We walked around Peurto Plata and handed out toys to the kids and got lost on our hike to Cabarette (which was proably to far to walk to anyway). Later in the week we ... read more

We are the first and last tourists to visit the Dominican Republic and NOT go to the beach. We did not do any sex tourism either. We were too busy trying to find tickets for mainland south america, or central america. We opted for Venezuela in the end, as tickets to Mexico from the DR are more expensive than transatlantic flights between new york and london. go figure. Air travel to and from Caracas is cheap. It rained most days we were there, but we got these photos. And I swam in a voodoo baptisim cave, 50 feet under the earth. bSilvie and I got engaged too./b ... read more

In the town of Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic they have a cable car or "teleferico" to the top of Mt. Isabel Del Torres. On top of the mountain you get a great view of the ocean as well as puerto plata below. If it is a cloudy day do not go to the teleferico as the view will be obstructed by clouds. There is also a botanical gardens at the top as well as a statue of Christ similar to the one in Rio, Brazil. We shot some video of the Puerto Plata Teleferico and posted it to www.dr-tourist.tv We are trying to giev tourists a reason to venture beyond the walls of their All Inclusive resort and explore the surrounding areas a bit. There are a bunch of things ... read more

Well, Ièm sad to say that this is our last night, as we have to check out of our room at 5:45 a.m. tomorrow to fly home. This has been the best week and the worst week - yes, I have had some illness, but I have had a lot fo fun, too - especially in the past two days! We did the Coean World Catamaran Tour yesterday and had a blast, and last night we met a lot of young people and went to the disco (though I had to try to escape a guy who wanted to get with me, so I ducked out by saying I needed to go tot he bathroom - I kinda feel sorry now, but oh well!). Today we stayed by the pool the whole day, swimming, dancing, takign ... read more

Hi everyone - well, I'm doing much better after another whole day in bed! And, I did take the Cipro afterall, so hopefully it will kick in and I can start really enjoying my holiday. Yesterday we went into Sosua and did some shopping - it was great, though the vendors are very pushy...I did, however, get two boyfriends, a couple fo paintings and a wooden carving for a steal! And we ended up having a drink at the Checkpoint Bar, which is owned by some Canadians, and we ended up getting a cab back to the resort rather than taking the free shuttle - why? Well, the bus was so packed, and it was standing room only, so we paid the $10 and rode in comfort! We ate at teh Japanese restaurant last night, and ... read more

I am "sick as a dog" today! I think it's a combination of the sun, booze, and local food that's getting to me! So, I spent most of the day in bed praying that I would feel better - and it somewhat worked! (well, it could've been the gallon of water I drank and rest). But, my day didn't start off so bad. I did manage to wake around 5:30 so I could be up for sunrise. Since our room is facing north west I headed down to the beach in the dark (still in my pj's) so I could get a better vantage point, but I was disappointed to find that the sun was still blocked by a point of land down at the end of the beach, so I grabbed a coffee at the ... read more

We're finally here! And it's a blast! Started off kinda rocky at the airport in St. John's...why?...well, I was a little over on my baggage weight allowance...try $70 worth! So, I quickly decided that I didn't need that small suitcase afterall! Kerri and Julie had to "streamline" their suitcases as well, and Kerri's mom took what we couldn't fit in - God love her...if she wasn't there we would have had to pay! Anyway, so after a few tense minutes of wondering what to do, we finally go everything checked in...and justin the nick of time, because the place started filling up quickly - and Jenelle was the one who said we were going way too early! Grabbed some Tim's (cookies and juice), and headed upstairs to go through security - I got on through without ... read more

Okay - so, my TravelBlog account is approved and up-and-running, and I'm pretty much packed and ready to go...BUT, I still have to study for one more exam that I have tomorrow morning! Thankfully, it's my last exam EVER! (And, I'm going to need this vacation, believe me!) So, with that said, I will get back to my studying and say my prayers that I'll ace the exam in the morning. All I have to do then is to wait for Jenelle to get off work, pack our bags into the car, drive to St.John's, and hopefully get a nap before heading to the airport around 2:30/3:00 a.m. Oh, and hope that I will be able to access computers at the resort! Wish me luck! Ciao! ... read more
