Hi - me and my wife will be traveling to Puerto Plata and of June and will be staying at the Grand Oasis Marien resort. Our package does not include hotel transfers as there is no shuttle to this resort. Can someone please let me know what is the best way to get from the airport in Puerto Plata to our resort? I've heard taxi is the most convenient but I am getting conflicting info as to how much that costs. Some say $15-25 others $50. Also, id we do take a tazi, do we need to tip the driver and how much? Is it safe to travel by taxi? Thanks!
Reply to this From Airport to your hotel will cost 500pesos, 600 max, you do not tip the drivers unless you are a celebrating gent and always agree the price before setting off, obviously pay once you arrive. I am not sure where the price of $50 comes from, although then again if you look like you are clueless then they will take full advantage of that. If you decide to pay more than 600pesos then you have been done. If you want to go very cheap then get a guagua from the airport entrance. Just stick your hand out and something will stop within 60 seconds, pile in and pay them 50pesos when you get out. They are good fun and a great way of meeting some of the crazy locals but not realistic if you have more than a backpack.
Have fun, and if I was you I'd just pile in a taxi and pay the 500pesos.
Reply to this Hi - just wanted to give an update. It costs $35 to go one way to Costa Dorada. There is a price billboard when you come out of the airport. They take dollars and the drive was only about 20 minutes long. It cost $32 on the way back.
