This was a lazy day (not that any of them are hard!) hanging out in this quaint little "Hippie" area. This is were I have spent most of my time, and definetly my favor so far.... read more

As the sun blared down upon me a million thoughts raced through my head. Where was I going and what was my adventure? It only took me 5 weeks to make up my mind! As I stood on the beach at Herradua waiting for the boat with my pack filled to the brim, I was both sad and excited. Sad to be leaving 5 weeks worth of wonderful company, fun and peace and excited to be starting my adventure. I was off to Montezuma! A one hour boat ride from Jaco to Montezuma with 8 other backpackers. The sun was hot and the boat was late but as soon as our packs were stuffed into garbage bags we were on our way. What a super chilled way to travel. A nice boat with extremely nice locals ... read more

We left Quito, Ecuador to fly to San Jose, Costa Rica. We stayed in San Jose for one night. We had seen enough of cities and wanted only the good life on the beach. In addition to this, Simon’s big birthday was fast approaching, so we had to ensure we were somewhere special for this occasion. As we didn’t have much time to spend in Central America, we could only pick one destination in Costa Rica for several days. We wanted to pick somewhere outstanding, but Costa Rica is made for exploring and there are so many places to choose from, that to decide on just one place is near impossible. We read our guide book and internet blogs into the night and decided on settling down in the hippy village of Montezuma on the Pacific ... read more

Well it's been a while since I updated the blog so I figured I would let you know what has been happening. First stop this weekend was a farmers market with my host sister and her husband! I never knew how many other types of fruits and vegetables there were in the world. I saw so many different types and even tasted a few new kinds as well that were delicious! This weekend we went to Inbioparque (an educational park that exists to educate the public on the different ecosystems that Costa Rica has) and it was really interesting because Claudia, the director of the program used to work at the park. We saw hundreds of different species and learned a lot about the different ecosystems. I saw my first cayman crocodile and also my first ... read more

I´m currently in San Jose, at a giant backpacker´s hostel called Pangea. It looked quite ominous from the outside, with its metal barred walls and giant curls of barbed wire lining its rooftop, but once inside (after gaining entry approval from the door guardsman and passing through a hallway of security cameras and another barred doorway) it opened up to a common area with color splashed walls painted with forest murals of moss and knotty trees and gnomes and trippy swirling ceiling art. The upstairs boasts a glass enclosed bar and restaurant and an assortment of couches to sink into, where you can see the rooftops of San Jose sprawling around you. We caught a bus in Montezuma at six thirty this morning after a relaxing last day spent playing pool, strolling along the beach, and ... read more

que pasa, mis amigos! had a great weekend in montezuma and we are back in san jose (alejuela to be exact) to meet up with las chicas here very soon. last friday we went on our first official tourist tour (haha), a snorkeling trip to the famed isla tortuga. great fun and made a few friends that we hung out with through the weekend. the snorkeling was more out in the ocean (more free diving then actual snorkeling) a few hundred meters out around a big rock reef. lots of fish but visibility wasnt as good as it could be. we spent the remainder of the day on the island and we were treated to calarmari and pilsens by our tour guides. awesome meal! that night our hostel was pretty packed with people and we played ... read more

Well Costa Rica hasn't given us the welcome that the other countries did. This morning we woke up to find some of our stuff stolen. Matt lost his shoes and shorts and I lost shorts :/. Really frusterating to get things stolen that we need. Not a major issue as we are going to head towards San Jose soon and can probably find cheap stuff there. I wish we had got robbed in one of the other coutries instead because it is expensive down here. Besides that the day is proceeding alright. The guys caught a bus to the park lands today to do some hiking. My ligaments in my knee are a little messed up from getting hit with a surf board so I decided to take the day off, laying on the beach. Yesterday's ... read more
