Geo: 25.7554, -77.8735Feb. 8th, 2014 – The Berry Islands Quick note to say that we are anchored between Great Harbour and Bullocks bay. We explored both areas today. It's funny, this area has dark green waters and many needle trees so I feel like we are in Muskoka! We dinghied ashore to visit some other cruising friends at Great Harbour Cay Marina! We waited until Thursday to leave Bimini and had a PERFECT first day of sailing. Second wasn't too bad either!! (Good thing Tony found that stone crab...by leaving one day later we got perfect wind! We caught up with 3 couples from Bimini and they all said that their first day out was horribly rough!)Next we will head up towards Great Stirrup Cay and around the other side of the island. After that, down to ... read more

Geo: 25.6415, -78.4177Left Bimini one day later than planned. It turned out to be the best thing we could have done! Had a PERFECT day of sailing! Even got visited by a pod of dolphins! We anchored on the Bahama Bank (kinda the middle of really shallow ocean) for one night and then continued to The Berries the following morning at 6:30am.... read more

Central America Caribbean » Bahamas February 5th 2014

Geo: 25.7167, -79.3We were planning to leave…but while we were waiting for the wind to die down in the afternoon, Tony scored some stone crab. He immediately announced "We're not leaving!" and that he was running to the store to buy a bottle of chardonnay and putting everything on ice. "Early Birthday DInner", he called it! So, we enjoyed one more, unexpected night in Bimini. And it was a good thing! The seas were given an extra day to calm down, and we had the perfect sail when leaving Bimini the next day!!! Feb. 4th. 2014 – Getting ready to leave BiminiHello Friends and Family! Now that SUPER BOWL is over, we can actually leave Bimini. Believe it or not, we stayed put here for a week just so that Tony could watch football. Yeah, yeah…I know ... read more

Geo: 25.7167, -79.3Feb. 4th, 2014 – Here's our picture blog!Hi All,I have been working like crazy to get ALL of our pictures uploaded for your viewing pleasure. I have created this only a picture blog. But I am required to put captions for each shot - and if there's more to say you can find it to the right of the pictures when you go into each album and view them one by one. This covers OUR WHOLE TRIP (and then some!)Travel Pod is not a fancy site, and it's lacking in many features, but I'm amazed at how quickly I can upload my pictures to it. I tried about 4 different sites in the past two days and this was the only one that could run on the bandwidth I have available here. I've also ... read more

Geo: 25.7167, -79.3There's no fear of starving in Bimini. Mornings start out with Cinnamon or Guava Buns from the bakery.Or, I've made French Toast! Coffee, is made every morning no matter what…we use our french press (given to us as a wedding gift) and we grind our own coffee beans (grinder was also a wedding gift!) The town of Bimini is small and quaint. The locals are friendly. And the food it phenomenal! Okay, Let's talk more about FOOD. There is a wonderful women who calls herself "Sister Janet". She sells a huge variety of home cooked meals everyday. Her storefront is her car. Yes, her car. "Sister J" (as the locals know her) gets up at... read more

Geo: 25.7167, -79.3We left Dinner Key Marina, stayed at No Name Harbour for one night to stage our 5am departure for the Bahamas. Happy to be in the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas! THIS is why we left the dock!!! Jan. 27th, 2014 – What a perfect Crossing!Hello all,We've arrived in Bimini!!! It was a PERFECT day! (Well, I thought so - maybe some would have preferred more wind.) At the very start of the day we still dealt with a few rollers, but they were soon "knocked down" by the southerly wind and we had a pretty flat sea for the majority of the crossing. It was HOT here today. So much warmer than it's been in Florida. Now it's cooling down…which will be wonderful for sleeping. And we WILL sleep well tonight! We were ... read more

I'm heading for the Southern Caribbean and Panama Canal to escape the Arctic vortex. Boarding at Ft. Lauderdale was a piece of cake and it was great to see the crew's smiling faces and be able to head to my cabin before the Mariner's Luncheon. The location of the Vista Dining Room as at the stern, not to be confused with the Vista Show room at the bow. My cabin is far forward so I get to burn a few calories before each meal? It's my first cruise on the Ziederdm and I am impressed with the decor and the condition of the public rooms. Unfortunately, the furniture in my cabin has been loved to death and the hide-a-bed sofa's spring has sprung and looks awful. My dinner mates are "happy people", I'm too old to ... read more
