Geo: 22.7439, -75.4511No need for early risers here today. We have no plans yet but I'm sure something will happen. As Queenie says, "live for the moment". To accomplish this, you make no plans and just let things happen. Hopefully, you're happy with the things that happen. I guess we're going to try this method today. First, breakfast at 10 am. As a rule, Queenie always orders room service for breakfast: bacon, eggs, sausage, potatoes, sweet rolls, orange juice, milk, cereal and coffee. Now no one ever eats much of it and sometimes they don't even deliver it. If they don't, she'll call and complain, they'll bring it and then we all go upstairs, leaving the plates, glasses and stainless covers still intact. Why she does this every day I don't understand. She says Jonathan likes ... read more

Geo: 23.1, -74.9833My iPod thinks I'm in Cuba. We are NOT in Cuba!!! JAN 24We arrived in the Clarence Town harbour yesterday after a long day of motor sailing. It was another bumpy ride...the waves were confused, and we were really beating into them much of the time. So even though the sun was shining, it was a wet ride from all the spray. The boat is covered in a layer of salt. Saltwater seeped into the boat through every hatch. Luckily, we had everything set up so that mainly it was only our throw rugs that absorbed all the drips. We are spending today in Clarence Town. Tony and I have been here before, but by car. Last June, we anchored in Salt Pond (on the west side of Long Island) and rented a car ... read more

Geo: 23.6576, -75.3358Seeing as we have this great weather window, we need to keep moving, and won't be spending more than one night anchored off of the Cape Santa Maria Resort, Calabash Bay, Long Island. But it sure is good to be back here. This resort is absolutely breathtaking. This is perfection in paradise which is attainable to all. The airport isn't far away, and as the saying goes...if you got the money, honey....We are all so happy that we escaped the busy anchorages of GGT. Four boats in this harbour is much more our style. We are sitting inside the screened in bar/restaurant of the resort. Christa and I are "interneting" like mad, uploading pictures, sending out emails, while Tony and Craig are sitting at the bar researching and discussing weather. The four of us ... read more

In our last letter we said that we would write next about George Town next… but we aren’t. I don’t have enough pictures yet from “this sweet place” as Eileen Vincent-Barwood calls this part of Exuma in her book. We spent a week in George Town catching up with old friends, Doug & Sharon on About Time, formerly Dream Catcher II, Skip & Cherylle on the Eleanor M, Toby and George of Puff, Dave & Bev of Cloverleaf and many others enjoying the special pleasures of George Town before heading out to explore Long Island. Since we will be heading back in a week or so we will write about George Town THEN. It was a motor-sailing day to come the 37 NM from the anchorage in Elizabeth Harbor to Thompson Bay. It was a ... read more

De ... read more

Long Island, le 21 mars.

Believe it or not, we have had winter down here too. We have had lots of cold fronts, strong winds, even a few cold, cloudy days and we actually wore jackets a couple of times. It seems that this year there has been longer west winds, which makes for a challenge in some of the more common anchorages. We sure aren’t complaining though as we get regular reports from home on the cold and snow there! We haven’t had as much company this year, and we have been touring around more and visiting other Islands. Sharon’s brother Brian and our nephew Justin wanted to see Long Island , so that was a great reason to leave Georgetown again and meet them in Long Island. It just so happened that there was an organized race from Georgetown ... read more

Et Oui! On est encore ici. On aime bien cet endroit. ... read more

Race to Long Island After being anchored in Georgetown since mid-December, we decided to participate in the 1st annual George Town to Long Island Regatta that was sailed on Thursday February 7th. This was planned as a “fun race” from the cut at the south end of Elizabeth Harbor to the North tip of Long Island at Cape Santa Maria, a distance of about 30 miles in the open waters of Exuma sound. Depths here range from 500- 2000’ and the water is a deep, deep blue. The winds were a little above the predicted 15 knots from the southeast, which provided for a very tight close reach for the length of the course. After crossing the starting line I engaged the auto pilot and put out the fishing lines. After all, this was supposed to ... read more

We finally left Georgetown, after being in the same spot for nearly six weeks. We headed south to Long Island and have spent the last week and a half there. Yesterday we arrived back in George Town, and are awaiting my 2 sisters arriving today for a short 5 day visit. Long Island is to the south and east of Exuma and is 78 miles long. It is becoming the southeastern mecca for boats cruising in the Bahamas. With good harbours and many modern facilities and services near decent anchorages, it is a “must see” while you are here. Already boasting several classy resorts, like Cape Santa Maria Beach resort, and 2 great marinas the island is beginning to be developed. The resort housing development of Stella Maris, on the East side of the island is ... read more
