Well I am hoping this will be my new creative outlet. As you can see from my profile information I probably wont be travelling too far afield in the next few years.. but you never never know. ..... As for now, you will have to make do with my terribly exciting traipsing around the countryside (or should that be cityside) with the kids in tow. Because we all know that with kids everything is wonderful, beautiful and exciting. Look out for upcoming entries on Australia Day at the Gold Coast, Adventures to Southbank and much much more for the year 2007. [View Full Entry]

Begging, Crying, Pleading.... I have children I need to get home to Yes it is true... No plane out for 9 days!! Ok ... well maybe it was our fault...... but due to a typing error we missed our plane at Salt Lake City. We tried to rush through with only 10 mins to get to our plane.......However if you are a person trying to board a plane at the last minute *this apparently triggers alarm bells in this day and age of increase security* as you could be trying to avoid the long process of checking what you are carrying, [View Full Entry]

Getting off the plane.. Slot Machines Everywhere...... Yes ...... In the airport terminal..... have a bit of a gamble while waiting for your plane!! So there are bright blinging lights everywhere in Las Vegas, even in the Airport. Most Airport's are out of town but the Las Vegas Airport is right near the strip. You can often see about 5 or more bright lights in a row in the sky - Planes lining up to land on the runway!! A couple of hours earlier we were at the St Louis Airport. This was the first Airport that we came across that [View Full Entry]

Welcome to Mid Town America. Compared to the other beautiful towns we had visited, Missouri was as they say... Misery!!! Well, maybe not that bad. However the houses were much more run down and the gardens unkempt and overgrown. Shops seemed old and run down. One of the main things we have noticed while in United states that was a surprise for us is how old and brown looking things are. I suppose TV shows only show the new and sparkely side of United States. We never really thought that USA is twice as old (since European settlement) than Australia. So [View Full Entry]

We flew to Newark Airport from Salt Lake City via Houston. There was a cool space shop in the airport and we were so tempted to buy stuff but felt it would be a little fake as we were not actually visiting the space centre or even Houston, we were only here to swap planes so resisted buying space paraphernalia and space food for our kids (or was my husband really buying it for himself... hmmmm interesting :) On domestic flights in the United States there is hardly any food served, so with two planes to catch we spent most of [View Full Entry]

Palmyra Pushing the limit for two days in Palmyra New York..... What a time we had ! Day One We drove four hours or more from Vermont to arrive in Palmyra New York. On the bus they make us play silly games and watch LDS movies to pass the time. We are fast becoming favourites in the bus, but I suspect that it is because of our accents. We are the only bookstore owners from overseas who were eligible for the trip. ( 2 from Alaska and about 6 from Canada- but that doesn't count ;) One lady on the [View Full Entry]

Niagara Falls Buffulo New York, was a fairly tired looking, run down looking town. A kilometer away in Canada its like Las Vegas, nice buildings and streets, lookouts, casinos, the people looked happier.... generally much much nicer.... maybe the United States felt that since Niagara had all the excitement stitched up they felt it would be a waste of money to try and compete?? So they basically let their side of the Falls ......... fall down! The tour company had learnt from previous experience that it is not a good idea to take the bus over the bridge to Canada. " YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN SNOW?" "NO WE ARE JUST SUN LOVING AUSTRALIANS " "TAKE PITY ON US" In conversation with the family we are staying with they find out that my husband has never seen snow. The family astounded, took us up to the mountains that very night. These people are constantly going hiking, walking and their son did 'bouldering' (which is climbing around big boulders/rocks with no ropes "spiderman" style ) in the mountains in summer and skiing in winter - it was simply amazing to them that we don't get the same privledge. Even though it is the [View Full Entry]

The conversation as we are heading to arrivals at the Salt Lake City Airport goes like this... Me: "Did you send the family a photo of us?" Him: "No" Me: "hmmmm" Me: "Do you know what they look like?" Him: "No" Me: "hmmmm" Me:"How are the gonna find us? I hope they have a sign" Well we didn't have to worry about that one, coming down the escalators we see a lovely looking couple smiling at us. "You look just like your dad" They say to my husband. So after 30 years some people still have good memories..... Well you can't [View Full Entry]

How exciting -- my FIRST overseas trip at the ripe old age of 26. We are headed to the United States via Taiwan. Well I will start this blog with another embarrassing first....... my first ride in a TAXI... yes you heard right, I have never been in a taxi. So I was even excited about that. And what a lovely taxi driver she was. She had 7 kids and told us all about them and how successful they were.. I think one was a doctor and a lawyer and the other children were following in the same path studying to [View Full Entry]
