14.4.08 Have well and truly lost my voice, far to much singing at the top of my lungs, late nights and early mornings (my body is finally rebelling against my abuse). Visited Darling Harbour Kath and Lauren and went to the IMAX theatre that has the biggest screen in the world, we looked very silly in the 3D glasses so its a good job it was dark in there. 15.4.08 -this is a day that I will never forget, today I did a skydive!!! We got up to meet the shuttle bus by 7am. We were all pretty tired so fell asleep on the way to Wollongong, it was pouring with rain the whole way there so we thought that it was going to be cancelled...we werent that lucky :-/ We reached the jump sight and ... read more
9.4.08 Headed into town this afternoon and did some shopping. Shops in Byron are filled with everything you could possibly want, if what you want are leather wristbands and bracelets, long flowing hippy skirts or anything to do with surfing and the youth subcultures that surround such laid back lifestyles. We were waiting for the bus back to our hostel so decided to go into Sharkys piercing and tattoo studio. Lauren got her nosed pierced and I got my ear pierced (again, honestly this is the last one mom promise ;) Went to Cheeky Monkeys again tonight as it was my last night with the girls before they left for Sydney. Was yet another awesome night. I borrowed Kaths skirt which I was a little concerned was a bit short, but really shouldnt have worried about ... read more
1.4.08 Well definately more relaxed after a few days in Noosa, and two well deserved lie-ins. Yesterday and today were spent on the beach and wandering round the high street. Met an Irish guy called Gary in our dorm who can talk till the cows come home but was very funny and had us all hooked on stories about his nieces and family back home, throwing in an irish song every now and then and asking if we knew it (we didnt). Have eaten lots of ice cream since we had 2 for 1 vouchers from the hostel. I will tempt you with some of the flavours: mint choc chip cookies and cream dutch choc chip vanilla cappuccino choc coated coffee beans white choc and caramel devils choc and.....all the sprinkles and nuts you can eat!!!!!! ... read more
26.3.08 So far we've checked out of our rooms, had a briefing, watched a promo dvd about fraser island, packed our 10 person 4WD and done a supermarket shop and its only 10.30am! People in our van: Lauren Nickoli P (Norway) Kathleen Nickoli I (Norway) Matt Jessica (Switzerland) Me Ramona (Switzerland) Ricky Clare After Matts 4th time of stalling the van we finally made it to the ferry. Reached Fraser Island after lunch and it was a bumpy ride through the rainforest to get to 75 mile beach on the other side of the island unfortunately it turned out to be a little too bumpy as we began to hear an abnormal clunking sound. First thought it was a flat tyre but they were all fine so we carried on. The clunking got worse so had ... read more
Hey guys, So its been a while since I last blogged and iv done a hell of a lot since Mission beach. so im gonna fill you in on my adventures since we last spoke. 18.3.08 Celebrated St Patricks Day in Mission Beach, we went to Mint Cafe for Irish Stew and a dance off, met loads of cool people and and didnt get to bed until 3.30am (a bit different from my nannying days when id be in bed by 9.30pm hehe). No hangover thank goodness, managed to avoid it by eating lots of peanut butter on toast before we went to bed, I think it must be a miracle cure. Went Blokarting with Lauren and Kathleen this afternoon on Mission beach, it was great fun and you get totally covered in sand. Australia is ... read more
Felt like a bit of a hedgehog this morning foraging to collect my things and leave the Calypso in and hopefully the Cairns wet season behind me. Got a taxi with a guy called Matt into the city. Met up with two girls Kathleen and Lauren and so the Oz journey began...first stop Innisfail Crocodile farm. I held a crocodile! fed kangaroos of which I ate later (probably not that actual one but you never know it tasted pretty fresh), I had a lizard on my shoulder and watched crazy guys get insanely close to seriously aggressive crocs to feed them a bit of chicken (they dont like Steve Irwin either! shocker). On to our first stop Mission Beach staying at Scotty's beach house and planned with Lauren and Kath where we wanted to go and ... read more
Up early & yes its started to rain again WOOP! WOOP! Bus driver arrived and seems pretty out there, hes wearing big black rimmed glasses with no lenses in them!?#@#! Stopped at some and the heavens opened naturally (cant believe how wet you can get in 30 secs, i was wearing my mac-a-mac and had an umbrella too!) waded up to my knees to get across a path (photo evidence of this). Ithen ate a purple flower that tasted like mushrooms, saw a spider above our heads in a web and a snake being released by one of the park rangers. "NO DANGER, PARK RANGER!" "NO DRAMA, CANE FARMER!" We enjoyed Lamingtons and juice before getting back on Gus the Wonder Bus oh and Fin our driver showed us how to get the leaches off our ... read more
Ok I dont mean to moan I know Im in a beautiful place and all, but Im already done with everything feeling damp grr! Its not pleasant and Im unsure as to why anyone lives here expecially in the wet season. Anyway I left my room this morning after a restless night spent sharing with 5 foreign girls (possibly German & Swedish but could quite easily be mistaken on both accounts), one of whom seems to be suffering a severe case of smokers cough or some such ailment resulting in insanely loud choking at ungodly hours of the morning! (ok realised Im sounding like a grump but stick with me it gets better I promise. I caught the shuttle bus into the city and had a coffee while I read through half a tree of brochures ... read more
Hey Everyone and welcome to my first ever blog!!!! Having been so rubbish on the New Zealand leg of my trip I thought the best way to keep in touch was to start this so everyone can see what Im up to and I wont recieve angry emails saying I dont keep in touch (Im a very busy girl you know). I said goodbye to my beautiful baby Ben (I didnt cry because it didnt feel real) and I may have been emotional but when I said goodbye he replied...no seriously dont reach for the straight jacket he actually strung a guh and a buh together that made Suzy and Tim and me all gasp, he followed this with a cheeky smile and stuck out his tongue. Almost as if he knew I was going he ... read more
