Congratulations Andy I am really envious. I have always wanted to go to Christmas Island but doubt I will have the opportunity. Caroline, 3 months will fly by. My company sent me to Korea for the same amount of time and it went so quickly I hardly noticed (although the company was a bit upset about the phone bill for calls to Sylvia). I told them it would be cheaper for them to fly her over and let her stay with me but they wouldn't listen.
My trip to Birdsville for the races later this month has had to be put off because of the flooding so I decided to go to Vanuatu instead. Yesterday they had a 7.5 earthquake! maybe I should just stay home.
Keep adventuring.
Happy Memories Hi George, thanks for reading, we had to stop at the dog on the tuckerbox, a true aussie icon but of course over the years the stories have obviously changed and no one really seems to know the true story behind the dog on the tuckerbox. I don't think it is any more well signposted than it used to be, we headed back down that way a few times and every time we say we will stop to see it again, but when we see the turn off for Gundagai we realise that once again we drove past it! A great place to have an overnight rest. Happy Travels George. Mrs KJ
The 'W' Word Hey everybody, thanks all of you for your good luck wishes to Andy, phew he is out of my hair for a few months, chance for me to catch up on my shopping and yes Ed ..... a little bit of sleep too! Seriously I am pleased for Andy, what a terrific opportunity for him and postings like that are not easy to come by so he needed to take it and I am happy to support him in that, still I should also be able to swing a visit next month too! We are lucky enough to have some good friends in the area so I am not alone in this whole new environment, otherwise I think it would be terrifying, thank goodness for skype too! Andy tells me tha it is great to be wearing 'thongs' again and for the non Aussies amongst you I do mean 'flip flops'! He assures me that on landing tonight it was 29 degrees..... oh how lovely, considering it is pouring with rain here, we had a small storm earlier, such a filthy day, reminded me so much of the English winters that I don't miss. Roll on summer! Hope to post anoher blog real soon... Mrs KJ!
AWESOME You two are doing so fantastically well. Your travels have been spectacular and now the job front is going the same way. A shame that you will be separated for such on long time. Caroline, you need to plan a few trips to Christmas Island.
Still enjoying your writings, still living vicariously thru you (even tho you are doing that 4 letter word -- work). But to continue your adventure one must fund it somehow.
Keep up the good work on the blog. When do you expect you may resume real travel??
Gary
Wowsers! Great news on the job front, well done! Good on you for grabing the opportunity with both hands :-)
Mum and Dad start their adventure on Thursday - the Pootling Possums will be arriving in Melbourne on the 14th August and can be found under www.mytb.org/pootling-possums. Hopefully at some point you will both be in the same place so you can catch up!
Enjoy! Lots of love from the 'resting' Wallaby Wanderers!! x x
memories To whom it may concern,
Its been about 7 years since i had a feed at the dog on the tuckerbox, i still remember the coffee, as i was with someone at the time, i think its one of the highways icons between gundagai and the murray river in robinvale, between 2002 and 2004 i use it as a stop off point in my trip down to visiting my brothers as i was homeless then and still today, at one stage in 2003 i actually had a good rest in the carpark area for a few hours, i think they should use more signage and at the last fuel up point at around gunning and also lit up signage at night on the highway, maybe they have nowadays as the last time i drove down in 2006 it still wasnt visible at night, that way some can rest till daybreak and have breakfast in the morning as their isnt anything as interesting in wagga wagga....

Adventures Hi there......Blog, oh dear, we never have time to write a blog, just fall into bed and sleep solidly until early morning and then off on our way again. Yes, great adventures, being held up twice by men dressed in soldiers uniform in Cambodia, in Laos, travelling down river in a dugout in the dark for 5 hours with just a torch, stranded on sandbanks, trying to move great hulks of water buffalo so that we could get through, taking care not to rip fisherman 's fishing nets slung across the river, people bathing and performing the daily laundry etc. Discreetly watching smugglers crossing the border into Vietnam from Laos. (apparently this is a dangerous thing to do) and so on and so on. Just 21 years of travel and so much more to see and do yet! Happy travels to both of you......will catch up on skype soon. xxxx
A Whole Year! Hi TT's, thanks for your comments.... A whole year! Who would believe that time has gone so quickly, very often we check the date out to see what we were doing a year ago and we cannot believe how quickly that time has gone, we cannot believe that we have been in Canberra for 6 months... where did that time go?
Promise to check out the picture on your blog site, I saw that you have been updating so will check out the pics, glad that you will be getting the CD, what a lovely treasure to have.
Promise to come and see you all when the opportunity arises, you guys stay safe too!

Broome Hi Michael, thanks for your comments, I hope that you have looked at some of our blogs from the May last last year you will see some of the pictures that we took of the fabulous sunsets. I would say that Cable Beach is where I have seen some of the best sunsets in the world and every day that we were there, the sunset was different. Beautiful!
Mrs KJ
Wildlife Hi Kieran, thanks for your comment, I agree I think that most men might shriek like a girl at seeing such a sight. We were lucky to get the picture. I think I was the only one that did not shriek as I was trying to get a picture and that is not easy from sitting in the car and I did not have any zoom lens with me.....
When Andy and I have been on the road, we try not to travel too much at night, because of the dangers of hitting wildlife and of course not to mention being early enough to find somewhere safe to camp for the night. In that region hire car firms also don't insure you for travel in the dark hours because of high risk in hitting cattle and kangaroo's!
We have learnt so much on our trip, every day has been something new to learn....
mrs KJ
King Brown Ditto that Shadow Man, I think it served to remind me what dangers this country holds, always pays to be alert, we were in the Kimberely at the same time last year and it now makes me wonder how many king browns we were near without even knowing. Andy always reminds me to check the ground before stepping out of the vehicle, they are so well camouflaged.

Dropping In Hi guys, thanks for your message. Sorry for not being able to pop in and see you when I swung by Perth, selfishly I wanted 5 hours sleep before catching the early flight to Broome the following morning.... I wondered if I was going to bump into Cliff at the airport.... I guess if I do that trip again.... which I will at some point.... then there is always the possibility of seeing you. Only problem is that the only direct flight for Canberra/Perth is evening..... it does not arrive in Perth until 10.20pm....
hope all is well with you both..... being grandparents now, I am sure you are kept busy....
take care and catch up soon.
Mrs KJ!
633km's I guess in the grand scheme of things nowadays 633km's is not that far.... I will check out google maps...... my Mum and Dad (Caroline) are making the most of their retirement.... I get a message every now and again to say where they are and what they are up to.... they have done many exciting adventures in the past.... they should blog it really!
Thanks again for your comments....
Mrs KJ :-)
Congratulations! Hi you two! Congratulations on your awards. You certainly deserve them. As faithful followers, it's always a highlight of our day when the next edition lands in our inbox! :) Will catch up with you both when we catch our breath. Been busy, busy, busy and away of late with table tennis stuff and life in general. Thanks too, for your recent email Caroline. Haven't been ignoring you for lack of response, just been flat chat. Promise to catch up soon. Sounds as though you had a great trip to Broome and, congratulations (once again :) for your elusive photo of the King Brown. Now you only need the wedge tailed eagle! :) Cheers, guys. Luv ya! xxx PS Been watching the temps on the nightly weather forecasts - doing a bit of a shiver in Canberra at the moment? Don't feel bad, we are too but, only got down to -2 deg :) xxx
Glorious Broome How lucky are you. We have just finished putting photos on our blog so we could order the c.d. so have been reminiscing over all the beautiful sunsets. I think at least a dozen sunsets snuck in. This time last year we were just doing Kakadu with you guys (a whole year ago - can you believe it!!) Stay safe and well TT's
Snakes and travel ... I was riding down to Hilton Head Island over the weekend and hit a very larg snake that was tring to cross the road infront of my bike. Scared the crap out of me. Not sure what kind it was. Just a reminder that we all need to be careful when we are traveling.
Alec
We Three Kings No wonder why the other men were shrieking like girl. The King Brown snake is simply an amazing snake of it's kind. The picture taken is also very nice and the King is captured in the pic very well. Traveling at night always gives you something new to see or learn.
Hi. As usual, a great blog. Sounds like the house sitting will be an on going thing. It looks like you might be moving around a bit. How does this affect the employment?
Griffith. We visited there on our first trip to Oz in 1996.
We have our camper. The Kamparoo Vactioner. Basic model, but will suit our needs. No off road for us. Might be a different story if we ever get back to Australia. So much of the wonderful places are off road.
Take Care and ENJOY

The Wedding is Saturday Andy, and Caroline.....Greetings from Scotland. Just to let you know I have sent some photos of Nicola's hen night to Andy's e mail address. The wedding is on Saturday 22nd...so all systems go over here. Hope you are both doing great. As I twisted my knee two weeks ago.....no bouncy pillows for me right now.....Best wishes. Walter and Janette.
Jack Hi Gary, sorry for delayed response. Sadly Helen and Robert think that Jack may have eaten some fox bait when he went onto a neighbouring property. It is very difficult to keep the farm dogs away from that kind of danger. Robert had no idea what Jack had done, then Jack had a drink which seems to have activated the poison and then he started fitting, Robert did his best to resuscitate Jack, but there was nothing he could do. Jack was only a fairly young dog, I thought only about 3 years but Helen said he was a bit older. We went to Woodstock last weekend and we both really missed Jack.

Back in the November of 2008, we embarked on an adventure that would take us out of everything that we were so familiar with, a comfortable life in the UK, friends, family and the English countryside. Some call it brave, others thought that we would be back, but above all, most people helped us embrace the challenge that lay ahead of us.
Weary of corporate life, we emigrated to Australia, with the notion of buying a 4 wheel drive and camper trailer and a 12 month trip to explore our adopted country, Not an easy thing to do as we had to start from scratch, simple things like knife, fork, s... full info
