| 13th December 2009 kangaroojack | The Book - From: Day 400 Morning Stacey, Oh stop it, you are making me blush !!, we have thought about it, but sadly passed the Travel blogs size limit, for a book with them. It may be a possibility for the future, who know's, but we are just pleased that people read, or are interest in what we do. We hope you have a great Christmas and a propserous New Year. Our love Andy & Caroline |

| 12th December 2009 Karl | Black Widow - From: Chick, Chick, Chick, Chick, Chicken, Lay a little egg for me!! That spider looks like a funnel web or something from that family of spiders. Definitely not a wolf spider, and "black widow" is the American version of the red back, so not that, either. |
| 11th December 2009 Mum and Dad | Handbags and hens! - From: Chick, Chick, Chick, Chick, Chicken, Lay a little egg for me!! Caroline...you left your homestead here too soon as I had promised myself that I was going to take you shopping and buy you a designer handbag..Radley comes to mind, but never mind you will have to wait until we visit you in the new homestead. This is a promise. Mum x We had a laugh because reading the blog we thought it was you Caroline that had gone to feed the hens and collect the eggs....I used to love doing that, but I did not like the broody ones as they pecked my hand really hard. Forgot say on skype that Auntie Margaret sends her love. xx |
| 11th December 2009 Stacy | Just to let you know... - From: Hats Off I am still ejoying reading your blogs! :-) Can't wait for the next one! |

| 7th December 2009 kangaroojack | Flash Forward - From: Summers first day!! Hi Andrew, glad that you are reading the blog..... I did not watch Lost, but I think I know where yo are coming from..... I think Flash Forward will be the same, not to be rushed even though we are all eager to get to the end and find out what happens 6 months from the blackout....... Take Care... C xx |
| 7th December 2009 kangaroojack | Orba - From: A Perfect Australian Morning Hi there, not surprised you will be heading back to Spain, I am sure that you only went home as the villa was booked out to someone else after you.... We keep hearing how bad the weather is in England so very grateful that we can still enjoy the sunshine.... despite the bad weather we had recently although a blessing for many people in this area as the water is much needed and yet still not enough to break the 8 year drought.... Andy says thank you for Dads comments.... he did work hard and he did enjoy driving the tractor, but I dont think he will be looking at being a farmer anytime soon...... We will hopefully find out more on 17th about Andy's results and that may give us an indication of how soon the op needs to be done.... Catch up soon. lov and miss you both. C xx |
| 6th December 2009 Mum and Dad | We wish! - From: A Perfect Australian Morning Hiya...Yes, we wish we could join you, but you wont be surprised to hear that we will be returning to Orba in Spain in the not too distant future. We have to wear our wellies in the garden as the water now goes over our shoes....Glad to hear that you are happily back at Woodstock. Dad says that he has great admiration for Andy and his work on the farm especially how quickly he mastered the machinery. Sorry to hear about the hernia and the length of time it will take for a repair. Take care. Love you xx |

| 1st December 2009 mindy | audiobook - From: One good turn deserves another!! So, I'm guessing from this blog that the sort issue has been dealt with in the playlist? |

| 29th November 2009 lurpak34 | Namibian would've loved this! - From: It’s 38 degrees out there! Why do you want custard? He knows about all sorts of aircraft - from his time in the Namibian Air Force. I was a bit worried that you might have to forgo cups of tea at one point, there.. |
| 24th November 2009 Jo Trouble | Don't stop! - From: Another Day Another Dollar! "This travel bug does get to you, I am not sure how easy it will be to stop" - don't!! :-) |
| 24th November 2009 kangaroojack | Shuffle - From: No Flies On Us Thanks Mindy, I will make a playlist, easiest solution I think. Caroline |
| 23rd November 2009 mindy | ipod audio books - From: No Flies On Us Make sure that you save them into a separate playlist, and make double sure that you do not have the shuffle button on and that you have the sort by album. That should help them come out in order. I had the same issue and that's how I figured it out. Good luck! |
| 23rd November 2009 kangaroojack | Th Kelstein House - From: The John Deere “Tag” Relay Harvesting Team Morning Barnaby, I know how hard it is to blog, and especially reading someone elses, rude I know, but we struggle enough to our ours done in the first place. I hope you didn't think us rude asking where you were from, it was just out of interest. Salzburg, we love it, The Kelstein Hause, fantastic. We love your blogs, so keep punching them out if you get the time, I asked you before if Edwin Shirley Trucking are still in business, but the message must have been lost in Cyberland. All the best Andy |
| 23rd November 2009 lurpak34 | Glue those pig's ears on! - From: The John Deere “Tag” Relay Harvesting Team As always, great photos. I have to admit that I'm being a bit naughty with reading people's blogs at the moment - too much to do! Do you find you can lose an entire morning immersed in somebody else's travel?! Crazy.. I responded to your comment on my "escape from Colditz" on the AC/DC tour but I don't think you got an alert? So: I've never made it to Salzburg - always Munich or Vienna. And my knowledge of Europe is fairly reasonable because I've spent the last ten years or so touring it. As you say, a certain Namibian could do with getting out a little more! Oh, and I originally come from the Shetland Islands, a fierce land where one needs a crash helmet as wind protection! (I should do a blog up there one day, actually). Contracting hypothermia aged two, we moved south...so I was mostly raised in the south east of England. Today, I have a house there - in Hastings, to be specific - which I need to spend more time in! |
| 23rd November 2009 TT's | Twins - From: Expect the Unexpected What exciting adventures you guys are having!!! I can see why you love those beautiful dogs - that last photo of Jack looks just like our dog Jarrah. Keep on enjoying the farm experience talk to you soon Jode xx |
| 23rd November 2009 Suz | telepathy - From: The John Deere “Tag” Relay Harvesting Team yes it is a skill you will learn on woodstock and you thought it was all sheep |
| 22nd November 2009 Gary | Woodstock - From: The John Deere “Tag” Relay Harvesting Team Caroline, it was nice to 'talk' with you on Skype the other day. You guys sure are busy, busy working really hard on getting the grain off. There are so many obstacles, it seems, with fire being a real threat. It sounds like a lot of crop was lost. Bad! You both take care and try to relax a bit after the harvesting is done. You will need it. |
| 19th November 2009 Walter&Janette | Pillow Talk !!!!! - From: Broken Promises Hi Andy and Caroline....Walter and Janette here....What great photos of the pillow jumping morning......What a fantastic way to start the day. Scone and Jam Tea and a Pillow Jump. You were both stars...... We are presently in Brisbane airport awaiting our flight home.....19th Nov. Back to the Scottish weather and run up to xmas. Good Luck. |
| 18th November 2009 kangaroojack | Top 5 - From: Woodstock Revisited Thanks Jane, we are nearly there with the top 5, we discussed it on the way back to Woodstock, but need to narrow it down, Andy and I have different place for different reasons..... I guess we have been guilty of doing some of the generic tourist resort, sometimes you just have to, but we have enjoyed seeing and doing different things...... hope that we can do more of the different stuff.... this is real Australia..... kj |
| 18th November 2009 kangaroojack | Mr December.... - From: Woodstock Revisited ... but then I need shots for the other 11 months...... |
| 18th November 2009 kangaroojack | Does you drive a Tracteeeerrrr? - From: Woodstock Revisited Ok Sarah, you might get the chance if you come to Woodstock!!! The fire guys are pretty amazing and to see everyone rally around is truly amazing. Andy is having quite an experience really, so am I but not quite in the same way!! | 18th November 2009 Jane | All hands on deck - From: Woodstock Revisited No rush with the top 5, all hands on deck. Oh what an experience, you will never forget. Top 5 reality of the land right here. |
| 18th November 2009 susan | - From: Woodstock Revisited I think that is a mr december shot andy |
| 18th November 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Rural Life - From: Woodstock Revisited Hi guys, fabulous blog as always. What an experience you've had today, crikey mate! Glad that everyone was ok and nobody was hurt. The rural fire guys do an amazing job, we've met a few unpaid volunteers that tell us all about how they have to provide their own equipment etc etc. Bless them for what they do. Continue to get stuck in and enjoying it, I've (Sarah) have always wanted to learn to drive a tractor so that the next person to take the rip out of my west country accent by saying "And does you drive a tracteeerrrrr" can receive the reply "Actualy, yes, I do"!!! All our love WW x x x |
| 18th November 2009 kangaroojack | Doggy Hugs - From: Omelette Anyone? Hi guys, I have been trying to catch up on your blogs, but it has been quite busy since reaching the farm. It was not a very pleasant experience looking at the dried egg on the Patrol, even though I have started to eat egg again (not boiled) it brings back those horrible memories from Bad Egg Day. We had lots of hugs from the dogs, and sloppy wet kisses. KJ xx |
| 18th November 2009 kangaroojack | Dust Omelette - From: Yawning, Poor Concentration, Tired? - Sounds like another day at the office Love the Omelette reference! |
| 18th November 2009 kangaroojack | Initiation By Fire - From: Omelette Anyone? Hi Guys, it was terrific to catch up with you and meet two of your sons. We had a great time, pity it had to be a flying visit, thank you for putting us up! Hmm. its nearly lunchtime here, so maybe I will have a crumpet with some Cockys Joy spread on it! The flies are getting less fortunately, it was crazy, they were everywhere! Hope to catch up soon. C&Axx |
| 17th November 2009 Lee & Marilyn | Omelette Day +1 - From: Omelette Anyone? Dear Andy and Carol, Looks like you are right into the hard yakka already!! Next time I am having a slice of toast I'll be thinking: 'Could be the wheat The T's harvested'. Of course I'll then spread a bit of Cocky's Joy on it as a bit of a ritual . . . Hope you can put up with the flies . . . They're maddening aren't they! Take care. Lee and Marilyn |
| 17th November 2009 Lee & Marilyn | Omelette a'la Bonnet du Nissan - From: Yawning, Poor Concentration, Tired? - Sounds like another day at the office It was great to see you guys again, you look so well and very relaxed! Nice to hear more about the continuing adventures in paradise. Shame about the egging (school kids' 'muck-up day' I expect) - now you have had part of your lovely Dust Collection washed off the Patrol . . . never mind! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and look forward to catching up again, hopefully we can spend a little more time together next time round. Hoping you have a great and rewarding time 'down the road'. Love from Lee, Marilyn and family :~) |
| 16th November 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Fun on the farm - From: Omelette Anyone? What a fabulous experience and we bet Helen, Robert and the dogs are so pleased to see you both. Have a great time, half the fun is in the hard work we bet. The photographs are fantastic, very envious. Can't believe somebody egged the truck, didn't they know about Caroline's iffy moment back in Undara?! Take care Much love as always WW x x |
| 15th November 2009 Shadow Man | Always fun ... - From: No Lights or Bells! Life is always fun in a pop-up camper! |
| 13th November 2009 Gary | Book - From: Another Wine Anyone?! Did you know that you can have your blog made into a book? I just printed mine on regular copy paper and it turned out OK. Even the pictures. But you can have them do it professionally!! As usual, a tremenous job on the blog. Great to hear of the large numbers of hits. It is a testament to your writing. |
| 13th November 2009 Andy Horsman | Memories - From: Feeling the Pressure Hi there, just a quick message to say I'm enjoying reading your blogs on Qld. The Maroochydore blog in particular has brought back some memories, of when I was a backpacker staying at the local YHA in the early 1990s. I had free accommodation as I was cleaning in the evenings and picking ginger, usually at farms near Yandina, during the day. Good times! I used to fish from the bridge in your picture... . Anyway, thanks for some entertaining blogs and I'm enjoying travelling vicariously through you. Cheers, Andy |
| 10th November 2009 suzan | - From: 365 Days later looks like you guys arent allowed to work |
| 10th November 2009 kazwelch | - From: 365 Days later What beautiful summaries of your trip so far from you both. Travel is the single most enriching experience & I like your acknowledgement of the harsher times too. I totally agree that it is the people you meet that makes travel so exciting - & how easy it is to engage with who was a total stranger but seem to have twin souls. We all miss you both very much yet you still seem close through all your writings and are rarely far from our thoughts. So pleased to hear that your adventure continues - put off the evil return to work for as long as possible! Sending you lots of love Karenxx |
| 9th November 2009 Shadow Man | Good time - From: Camping Country Looks like y'all enjoyed a good time. My family used a Coleman pop-up camper for years! |
| 9th November 2009 lurpak34 | Cor, some mileage. - From: Camping Country I like the map photo. What a big country Australia is. I left stuff in Sydney ten years ago, with this naive idea that I'd whizz round the "island". Not a chance. I flew out of Perth; the bags are still in Sydney! It's a shame you missed out Wave Rock, Albany, beautiful Esperance etc. in WA...but you just can't do everything! And thank you, Mrs. Kangaroojack, for reading him my blog! |
| 9th November 2009 kangaroojack | Platypus - From: Grease Monkey Hi Karen, thanks for your lovely message, we were surprised too when we first heard about the male being venemous. I will check out the bbc web address that you note. A whole year, amazing really, I wonder where the time has gone, yet some days we were out there travelling alone time went so slowly. Miss you very much, take care Caroline x |

| 9th November 2009 kangaroojack | Thanks Back - From: 365 Days later Thanks Sandra, it is our pleasure for you to enjoy reading. Your home is an amazing place! KJ |
| 9th November 2009 kangaroojack | Top 5 - From: 365 Days later A hard taskmaster Jane! Of course we accept that challenge and will do the top 5 for you, I expect mine will vary from Andy's. We will try to give it some thought in next couple of days, but maybe when we are back on our long journey south, it will help us pass the time...... Thanks for sticking with us on our journey, I think I will have trouble settling down, Andy wants to go round again, would be nice but we have to earn a bit of money first! It is great writing when we know so many people enjoy reading. Thanks Caroline |
| 9th November 2009 kangaroojack | Christmas Already - From: 365 Days later Hi Susan, thanks for your message, we are planning our journey down at the moment, would be great to swing by ACT for a bottle of vino, depends on timescales and route. | 7th November 2009 Helen Sheridan | Congratulations - From: Driving in the Dark What a wonderful achievement - I'll bet you never imagined you would do so much and see so much in a year. Not only have you enjoyed it but we have enjoyed it along with you. Another go around would be great for us and I guess you as well but that is a big ask! Love Helen |
| 7th November 2009 Stacy | Another message.. - From: Driving in the Dark ...from me! Still reading your blogs. Actually, I went back and read them all from the beginning, I am hooked! I hope the next blog isn't your last one, it would be great to know where you are going to live and how your day to day life is post - travel! Still (mega) jealous and can't wait to get out there myself one day, but reading where you've been and what you've done has given me a lot of things to think about for when I start planning my own adventure. :-) |

| 4th November 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Funny you should mention it! - From: An Airlie Tea We've loved using our waterproof casing for our camera, we bought it in Cairns and have used it continously.....until Monday that is! It sprang a leak .... so guess what, camera ruined! Nevermind, it's been awesome while it worked and we've loved getting the memories that we have managed to get. Luckily we'd captured all the snorkelling and marine life we wanted to prior to the leak (the tiniest of holes) and we'll get another one in Perth - along with the new camera!!! Good job it wasn't the Canon! All our love to you both WW |
| 27th October 2009 Gary | CASSOWARY - From: Mission Accomplished You lucky, lucky folks. Seeing the elusive Cassowary. We actually saw a dad and a baby and didn't get a picture. We figured that we would see scores of them. WRONG. Take care. |
| 27th October 2009 kangaroojack | Kalgoorlie - From: Kangaroo Jack is on the Move Again Morning Barnaby, I could think of a lost worst places than Kalgoorlie to get waylaid, we thought it was a great town. It's nice to see that you have been reading Kangaroojack' Blog for a while, I have to say, that moment, in Darwin was a Classic incident that we all have now and again. I don't think it translated that well to words, but man it was funny. How long have you been blogging on this site, I think Travel Blog have got it sorted really well. You may not be interested, as it is a bit of a Busmans Holiday for you, but we did a good blog entry on Trucks asCaroline and myself both come from Haulage families, so we had to do one on trucks. All the best, I'm just about to read your latest entry. Andy |
| 27th October 2009 Wendy | Yay a cassowray! or wary but that don't rhyme - From: Mission Accomplished At last you got one on film. Like you we only saw one in a zoo in Oz last year (it will be a year on Friday!) I'd like to see a Cass trying to walk over the lines and poles so it doesn't get run over.... Also be facinated to see the shooting snake. Tony hot sweaty and exhausted in Morocco until next week. All the best |

| 27th October 2009 lurpak34 | Great photos - From: Kangaroo Jack is on the Move Again Hey, thanks for following my AC/DC blog. I left a response but I don't know whether that comes through to you. I enjoyed your road rage rant. You'd hate driving in the UK! One of these days I aim to reach the north coast of Australia. Last time I visited, I only got to Uluru and then got waylaid in Kalgoorlie...for 5 months. Keep the blogs (great photos) coming.. |
| 25th October 2009 John and Shirley | Birthday - From: City in a Garden Happy birthday....hope have a nice day with no rain! We are sitting in the blazing sun at the moment....have read two of your blogs, but it is too hot to stay out here. We are waiting for the shops to open at 12.00. | 25th October 2009 cabochick | my favorite part about mission beach - From: Mission Accomplished I loved the little balls of sand rolled up! We looked for likenesses of Elvis or Jesus, but alas, none found. We also crashed around the jungle looking for cassowaries, but had no luck. I figured they had all been run over judging from the multi road signs.....glad to see there is at least one left! Great blog. your trip is bringing back lots of memories for me. ta |

| 25th October 2009 kangaroojack | Breathe - From: Sunday Best Hi Emma and the Patterson family! Great to hear from you, we are probably going to be in Townsville by tomorrow night, we stayed in Cairns a while longer than anticipated and are slowly heading South! I finished reading that book you gave me today, it was a good read after all, and it is still a bit damp would you believe! I dont think it will dry out properly up here. It was great meeting you guys and you never know we may head out West again. Safe travels. Andy and Caroline x |
| 25th October 2009 Emma Patterson | Captain Billy's Landing - From: Sunday Best Hi there! I finally have found some time to sit on the computer and look at your blog. I like what you have written, I had a bit of a laugh! How are you guys going now and where are you? We are currently at Karumba, probably move on tomorrow, slowly heading west now across the top. Wonder if we'll ever meet again! All the best with your travels. Emma x |

The photos from Paronella brought back some lovely memories of when we were there in 2003. It's certainly a 'one-off' place and a labour of love for the owners. Good luck with the remainder of your travels! Best wishes, Jan and Graham. |

| 19th October 2009 Gary | Great summary - From: The Last Frontier What a great summary of your trip to The Cape. Should give anyone who is thinking of going, a lot of great information. Maybe that will be us. Maybe not. One of the main reasons, I suspect, that you have so many readers, is that you do such a great job on your blog. I will be keeping up with your journey. And please let us all know how your 'settling down' goes. |

Glad you enjoyed Cape York and looking forward to hearing about more of your adventures through your eyes. Us Aussies do tend to take things of this beautiful country for granted at times so it has been interesting and enlightning to see it from your prospective. Thank you for entertaining me most nights. Hope you enjoy Tassie again in the new year and may see you down there as we are going in Jan/Feb. Its a small world! Good luck with the rest of your trip Regards Lyne from Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitors Centre. |
| 19th October 2009 Jodie | G'day from Invy - From: The lack of Air Hi guys, just done my weekly catch up of your blog - had a sickie today, 1st one ever at this job! If you want reptile action you need to come and visit. Josh's blue tongue has come out of hibernation and is most social through the day sunning himself under the heat lamp. Glad to see your keen on 'Packed to the Rafters' we never miss an episode in our house, the kids forgot to tape it the other night so we all crowded around the computer to watch it on the website. Very happy happy birthday to you Andy for Wednesday - hope you get to enjoy 20 cups of tea for the day - maybe a sneaky cake as well. Take care and keep enjoying TT's xx |

Yours, as well as others are making me feel more excited about going there, it's good to get some sort of insight as to what it's like there! Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading more of your stories! |

Our good friends the Wightys that are living with us at the moment have the photo at the tip with the 'real' sign from 5 years ago. Its such a shame its not there anymore. | 7th October 2009 liliram | Not so incredible..... - From: Incredible Yeah....it only tells you that there are a number of animal/bird lovers out here! But really, that was a very interesting, though sad tale about the bird . The sponge-eating horse is another story, of course. Keep blogging, you two. You've got fans now. ;-) |
| 6th October 2009 Janney | Great Photos - From: Oooh er, That's a big one !! Your travel post is indeed worth reading. I love your photos. You have some great talent here. Good luck on all your future travels and I hope you'll share them the same way here. Happy Anniversary to your Mum and Dad! By the way, do you know that you can earn by travelling? I found a new social networking community that is surely exciting to join. I hope you'll be interested too. Have a blessed day! |
| 5th October 2009 Mum and Dad | Animal day - From: Caroline and the Kookaburra. Hi.....How so very sad finding a very sick kooki and there was nothing you could do to help.....It was a good job the pigs were dead as what could you have done for them!! We loved the story about the horse Cheyenne and the photo of the horse and Bear the dog.. We are always getting sick birds of all kinds in the garden..a friend said that the other birds tell them to fly to us for help. Try not to be sad as you did all that you could for it. It is getting colder here you would not like it just keep following the sun in OZ. Love Mum and Dad xx |
| 5th October 2009 Darryl and Sarah | You couldn't have done any more - From: Caroline and the Kookaburra. I'm crying with you Caroline, that's such a shame for the poor Kooki. They're so beautiful but he didn't look well at all did he. We came across a Wallaby on our way into Edith Falls that had obviously been hit by a car but was still alive and dragging itself away from the road. Sadly because it was outside the national park the rangers felt there was nothing they could do and as we weren't near a wildlife rescue place we too had to leave it. :-( PS ironically on our blog for yesterday you'll see a parrot in a slightly worse state than the kooki, there was definately nothing we could do for it! Take care love and hugs from both of us x x x |
| 4th October 2009 Josh Truey | Hi guys - From: Observed, Amazed, Described, Sketched, Shot, Eaten and Named Kangaroo!! | 3rd October 2009 Gary | On the Road - From: Observed, Amazed, Described, Sketched, Shot, Eaten and Named Kangaroo!! Glad to see you are on the road again. I missed all of the adventures while you were on the move. Cairns and surrounds were interesting, but you are now in unknown territory to us. Take care and ENJOY. |
| 3rd October 2009 Jan & Ted Davis | Cooktown - From: Fruit Salad Hi guys, Isn't Cooktown just the quaintest little town? Lots to see and do and, whilst there, don't miss having a look at the Chinese Cemetery. Used to be a big Chinese population back in the 1800's. They came for the gold. Sounds a bit ghoulish perhaps but, like all of Cooktown, lots of history there and interesting just to have a wander around the main part of the cemetery itself, just browsing the inscriptions on some of the older headstones. Also, whilst in the area, if you are looking for a lovely place to stay for a day or two, head out to Endeavour Falls. There is a really nice caravan park there in a lovely peaceful tropical setting, right on the river. It's about 30 k's out of town, the last 9-10 k's is good gravel road, not that that will worry you two but, is does tend to keep a lot of other travellers from visiting. Consequently, not overcrowded! :) Luv, J & T xxx |
| 1st October 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Good luck! - From: Inside Out Have a great time on the trek up to Cape York, there are some great crossings which you need to spend time at just 'watching' the action once you've been through yourselves (apparently!)! We made it into and out of the Bungle Bungles! Yay! Have fun and speak to you soon WW x x |
| 28th September 2009 Jane | Shelburne Bay - From: “Mummy’s” House Did a bit of googling and think once the National Parks took control they have closed the road that previously ran through the pastoral lease. Probably do not have funds to maintain a non gazetted road. I read of one trip by the geographic society that described their trip as going along a disuded road then completing the journey on quad bikes. Oh well, maybe one day. A few places like that in the Far North, just cannot get to some places without a chopper! Not sure if you have found exploreoz webiste but can be good resource for your type of travelling. Cheers and happy travels. Jane - ps if stuck for a little outing the Goldsborough Valley and the road to the very end is nice, Ross and Locke (though imagine covered in dust atm) |
| 28th September 2009 Helen Sheridan | Dust - From: From a Different Perspective Hi Caroline and Andy, Just wondering if you have managed to get all our dust yet. I hear it was heading up your way. Don't bother blowing it back this way - we don't need it just yet. Love Helen |
| 27th September 2009 Darryl and Sarah | The whole fairytale ending - From: The Pirates of Penzance You'll be back on the road in no time at all and there is no better adventure than one which will take you to the 'top of the world'! We've heard some great stories from people who have done it in the last two months, they had a great time what with walking all the river crossings and trips into the different communities up there. It's one of those seeing is believing trips and it's one which we will most definately be back to undertake in a couple of years. Safe travels to all of you from all of us x x |
| 26th September 2009 kangaroojack | Shelburne Bay - From: “Mummy’s” House Hi Jane, we have had a look at Goole Earth and also at the map we have and Shelburne bay looks very Isolated, I thought there may be a way through from Cape Billy's Landing then Down as there are no other roads in. Its just abouve the oliver river so may be accesible by boat, but as there was someone trying to sand mine it, I guess it mat have been accesible by land to get equipment in. If we find out more we will let you know. My regards Andy |
| 26th September 2009 Jane | - From: “Mummy’s” House Been trying to find out how you can access Shelburne Bay sand dunes in Cape York. If you figure it out lets us know! Nice garden goanna by the way :) |
| 22nd September 2009 Mum and Dad | "Phew" - From: Its Hot at the Top Hi.....Stunning photos of the views......and Caroline hot but not bothered.....Today we visited The Vyne National Trust Property near Basingstoke. The lake had many ducks etc, but numerous Canada Geese had found a great place to stay for their summer holiday......the gardener told us that if we fancied goose for dinner we could take one home with us! We enjoyed our day out...the house was very interesting with lovely walks along the river. Have fun. Mum and Dad x |
| 22nd September 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Don't give up - From: We don't Give a Fig on finding Sydney with a Y from Cairns' relatives, he's looking forward to news!!! We're back in Katherine now and there's definately no Cassowaries here!! love from the Wallaby Wanderers and the crew x x |

| 18th September 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Great memories - Peter, Paul and Mary - From: Things you never knew about Skippy the Bush Kangaroo I remember my Dad singing Blowing in the Wind when I was a kid, I don't think I've ever heard the original plus I didn't realise that Peter, Paul and Mary sang Leaving on a jet plane - Dad and I sang that at the folk club just before we came out here. And as for you saying that you've watched yet another TV programme, well, how will you cope back on the open road!!! Great to speak to you tonight. Take care and we'll see you soon Dar and Sar (and Sydney with a Y from Cairns) x x |
| 16th September 2009 Gary | Tia & Canada - From: I Bet It Takes A While To Paint the B*st*rd I am sure that Tia and her partner have researched their trip to Canada. But you might want to remind her that she will be heading into winter where temperatures can be anywhere from minus 10 to minus 30C. I won't even mention the possibility of -40C. Oops, I did mention it!!!! We also tend to still use pounds and inches for measurements. Although litres and Kilometres for petrol (gas/gasoline here) and highway 'mileage'. Never figured out if kilometreage would replace mileage. Take care |
| 16th September 2009 Mum and Dad | "WOW" - From: Djina-Wu (Get ready to walk) Hiya.....you certainly look good Caroline....and you dropped a whole dress size too.....bet you feel great about that.......has Andy lost any weight? Mum xxx |
| 15th September 2009 Tjupurru | The Didjeribone - From: Didgeribone The Original and the best Sliding Didjeridu on the planet... wouldn't play anything else on stage!!! |
| 14th September 2009 Helen Sheridan | What a walk! - From: Nasa: The Space Shuttle This walk makes my 6 ks twice a week along the bitumen road from the Eurongilly Hall to the Dollarvale Bridge seem like a walk in the park. Lamb marking to-day but will give you a heads up on all things farming as soon as I can get a spare hour. Love Helen |
| 14th September 2009 Darryl and Sarah | We googled your blog title.. - From: Nasa: The Space Shuttle ... but it didn't come up on page one for us but we've hit it twice anyway! We googled our 'National Geographic Boobs' titled blog just out of interest and that does come up on Google's page one and it is our biggest hitter so far! Maybe it is 'all in a name'?! love from all at the WW's camp! |
| 13th September 2009 kangaroojack | Rego - From: Life in the Tropics Hi Gary, $652 for the year, (Road tax) as we call it in the UK, Insurance is on top of that. All the best Andy |
| 13th September 2009 susan | lazy - From: Frog Parking Only, Others Will Be Toad Enjoy your free time. You will be working eventually - 9-5 long days of sitting in front of the computer dealing with the same SH** in a different country where the workplace doesnt change from day to day. Am I paintng you a good picture? hope you make it back down this end of the country later in the year. Maybe christmas? |
| 12th September 2009 Gary | Rego - From: Life in the Tropics $652, for how long? Seems like a lot of money. Or does that include insurance? |
| 10th September 2009 kangaroojack | Well done Kimba - From: Sapphire and Steel Morning Helen, Thats great news, I'm sure Wally didn't sneak in, he is far to proffesional to do that, he would have made an appointment. When Kimba lets you, we would love some photo's. Have you had a lot of rain, are the dams filling. Infact can we have a full report of the farm, including how you and robert are, including the sordid details of Jason and everything on the farm, like was the software and hardware upgrade on the tractor succesful etc etc. All our love Andy & Caroline |
| 10th September 2009 Helen Sheridan | Sapphire and Steel - From: Sapphire and Steel May not be an exciting day for you but it would be just my kind of day. No sheep in site and plenty of rain and plenty of time to sit around and contemplate my navel. Kimba had 5 puppies on Saturday. 4 males and 1 female. Two plain black like Wally (so we think that Wally must have sneaked in when we weren't watching) two black and brown and one brown. I took some photos (not very good) when they were a day old so will email them. Kimba is very protective for the first couple of days so it is a bit hard to get a good look. She actually had 6 but one was stillborn. They are like little squirming sausages that make the funniest noises. Would love to come to Cairns but I don't think that Caroline,Andy, Wendy and Tiddles would like going without their feeds. Love, Helen |
| 6th September 2009 Mum and Dad | Skinks, dogs and all that - From: Sri Lankan curry in Cairns Hiya.......Caroline you look very beautiful as always.....we do miss you with your always smiling face and your zest for life, We are very happy to see you so happy though.......so many contestants on Deal or No Deal are after winning money to go to Australia....we don't blame them. one contestant wanted enough money for her, her partner and her cat to go and live in OZ.....joyfully she won enough with a bit left over..It is great that you found someone to bring your DVD's back to Chandler's Ford....the world is becoming a very small place! We will be delighted to collect them from Ruth's parents. We are suffering at the moment, won't explain how but you will guess.....it is all very well this five fruits and veg per day, but we have a glut of tomatoes and apples at the moment.....delicious made into various dishes, but our tums are not happy!!! Dad has finished pickling all the beetroot..happily did not allow the pressure cooker to blow like he did when I was working and I came home to find the kitchen sprayed red, with a red spotted ceiling. Another young chap at this moment has taken £25 thousand offered so he will be buying his ticket to OZ. From your blogs it seems that there is plenty of space there. Love you...take care Mum and Dad xxx |
| 6th September 2009 Darryl and Sarah | DHL them! - From: I Bet It Takes A While To Paint the B*st*rd Hi guys, I have the same task to do shortly - burning DVDs of photographs! What a pleasant thought when the pool is just there and it's nearing 40 degrees!!! I've been told to use DHL in the past, very reliable and alot less agro apparently than other methods of postage from Australia (if you get my drift!). Hope all is going well, very much looking forward to our trip into Arnhem land later this week, should be fab. Speak to you soon WW x x x x |
| 2nd September 2009 Ros | cassowary - From: It’s Disgusting, You Won’t Need Moisturiser Hi Andy and Caroline Glad you're enjoying Cairns. The photos remind us of our time there only a few weeks ago. As for the missing cassowary, i.e. not a stuffed one!, we saw one on a boardwalk en route to Cape Tribulation. Over the Mossman ferry, and go past the expensive treetop/rainforest boardwalk and a bit further on is a free boardwalk through the forest and there we saw the cassowary. It was a great treat, and others have seen one there too. We're well south of you now in Noosa. Great weather here and doing some of the things you're doing, like reading books! Ros & Ken |
| 29th August 2009 kangaroojack | Iife in the Tropics - From: Life in the Tropics Hi Roz, Oh Joy the Bill, !! we have not caught any of the Cairns festival yet. Hop eyou and Ken are both well ans we are so gld you are reading the blog. All Our love Andy & Caroline |
| 29th August 2009 Ros | The Black Box - From: Life in the Tropics Hi Andy and Caroline If you switch the black box on again today (Saturday) you'll be able to catch some old editions of "The Bill". That should cure any addiction! Did you catch any of the Cairns Festival? |
| 28th August 2009 Jode | Good books - From: Life in the Tropics Hey Caroline have read a couple of Nora Roberts books myself and quite enjoyed them. She has written loads of books and also goes by the name of J.D. Robb so shouldn't be too hard to find a few more. She has also written a few trilogies so keep an eye out for them. Your namesakes are very very cute!! Bottle feeding lambs was part of my gorwing up and now my sister does it with her kids. They have baby chickens at the moment so maybe I could convince the kids to call one Kangaroo and one Jack - you never know. Enjoy your house and your TV - there is so much trash you could watch all day long. Take care talk to you soon Jode xx |
| 26th August 2009 Jan Davis | Birds and Roos - From: I Always Wondered What Skippy Tasted Like Hi Andy & Caroline, Just a little bit more info on kangaroos. Very clever animals even to the point that, in good seasons i.e. plenty of food & water about they will breed quite prolifically but, in really bad seasons, droughts etc, the female can halt an already begun pregnancy and, put it "on hold" for an extended time until conditions improve, sometimes for a couple of seasons if necessary, before she will birth the joey. Also, in times when mother and joey are under threat or being chased, as protection, Mum will often toss Baby Joey out of the pouch whilst bounding along and lead the threat away from it. Birds - the little grey bird you thought was an Indian Minor Bird is a type of Minor but, he is a called Noisy Minor and, they are just that when a few of them get together. Very busy little birds. He is also known as a Soldier Bird. Another imported variety that is becoming a bit of a pest, especially to our native birdlife. Indian Minor birds (a real pest in the bird world) is about the same size as the grey one but, is completely brown with a yellow beak and, is quite an agressive bird. Also another imported variety. There is a bounty on them here in New South. Luv your work! :) Jan & Ted xx |
| 26th August 2009 Steve | Stuck on the job - From: Simple Pleasures An elderly man in Cairns, Australia got stuck to a toilet after pranksters caked the seat with superglue. The incident occurred in the public conveniences of a shopping centre. Ambulance staff had to carry the victim - still attached to the toilet - out of the precinct, in full view of shoppers. He was then taken to hospital, where industrial-strength solvents were reportedly used to free him from the unexpectedly adhesive apparatus. According to Cairns.com.au, it was the second case of a strong, fast-acting glue being smeared on a seat in the same men's toilets that day. In the earlier incident the man had been able to get up before the glue set. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the elderly man, who did not want to be identified, was "pretty distressed about the whole thing". Cairns Police District's Superintendent Brent Carter has appealed for public help to identify the culprit. "The humiliation of sitting on a toilet while emergency services are working around you trying to free you…I just feel for the man," said Carter. "Then to have to be wheeled out of the shopping centre with the toilet frame still attached to your body is just dreadful." Your in queensland? you didn't? did you? lol |
| 24th August 2009 Jan and Ted Davis | Innisfail - From: Red Hot Chilli & No Peppers Hi Andy & Caroline, If you are still heading towards or in the vicinity of Innisfail, see if you can fit in a visit to Paronella Park. Built by one Jose Paronella who came to Australia as a young man from his native Spain back in the early part of the 20th century, it is a marvel of one man's vision, dedication and dream for a lost love. The gardens, fountains and surrounds are quite stunning. Also quite an engineering feat with his own on-site hydro scheme to power his mansion by electricity, something which was unheard of at the time. It is certainly worth a look and it's great to see it being so well cared for and lovingly restored today. All built by hand, it remains a fitting testament to one man's dream. Luv, Jan & Ted xxx |
| 22nd August 2009 Jane | Where is the platypus! - From: Without the sun there would be no Toast Sorry no platypus, hope you managed the Nandroya walk from henrietta creek, two lots of falls. One smaller one is part of the track. I love it. Good for a chilly swim. I am pretty sure that red cedar actually fell down during the cyclone, the area was pretty well trashed so nice to see the rainforest getting dense again. |
| 22nd August 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Powered by the sun - From: Without the sun there would be no Toast We're so jealous that you've got a solar powered toaster!!!!!! Wink Wink, nudge nudge!!!! Great to talk to you earlier, hope you managed to get your pizza!! |
| 22nd August 2009 Helen Sheridan | Anniversay - From: Walleroo or Kangaroo A little belated but hope you had a wonderful day. Have sent some photos via email to Andy's email address. Home that you get them. I'm a bit technologically challenged when it comes to those sorts of things. Keep enjoying, Love Helen |
| 17th August 2009 Jane | Walk tip - From: We’ve had a lot to say for ourselves You may enjoy Henrietta Creek campground as it has some great waterfall walks and also maybe able to spot platypus in Gollagan Creek very early am or dusk. Not much in facilities but very good walks. Between Millaa Millaa and Innisfail. |

| 16th August 2009 Mum and Dad | Kangaroos and Emus - From: I Always Wondered What Skippy Tasted Like Hiya. I must say that I think we should be eating kangaroos as well as emus which we did eat in South Africa and found it to be delicious. Wasn't so keen on their biltong though. It would all be very good for us on our cholesterol lowering diets. Happy Wedding Aniversary for the 18th. Lots of love Mum and Dad xxxx |
| 15th August 2009 kangaroojack | Poem - From: Bad Egg !! Hi Shirley, I read the poem to Caroline whilst she was still in bed and we thought it was a wow. Good effort, it was better than ours, so next time we get involved in a Poetry shootout, we are going to ask you to write ours. Thanks for the excellent message. Our love Andy & Lazy Bones |
| 15th August 2009 Mum and Dad | Australia - From: Bad Egg !! Caroline and Andy, Sarah and Darryl / are touring Australia in summer apparel The days very hot but the nights can be cold, To escape from wet England with tents to unroll Darryl and Sarah, Caroline and Andy Met outside Cairns, by gosh that was handy From possums to spiders and snakes, oh! be wary Kangaroos and koalas and the odd cassowary The wedge tailed eagles on road kill they spy with camera in hands, then off they do fly! Their blogs are amazing and photos give cheer We hear they've been fossiking, then stop for a beer The gems that they found they took to the shop No fortunes here, so it's no time to stop They swim in the lakes and also the pools Watch out for crocodiles as they are no fools! The water is cold which cools them all down So back to the campsite then a trip into town Reticulated campsites they think are a must but, oh dear when they get there "There's no room for us!" A lamb roast for tea with veggies and dampers The camp fire is lit so off with their jumpers The oven is placed on the embers that glow And in no time at all the food is a "Wow" With no light pollution, in the blackness of night Their stargazing is perfect, they exclaim with delight An inter planetary walk would be just the thing so next time they come a telescope will they bring So, Sarah and Darryl and Caroline and Andy A good time they've had, no need to be dandy With kisses and hugs they go separate ways And promised to meet up one of these days ******************************************** |
| 15th August 2009 Sharon, Tim & Wade Blyton | Happy Anniversary for Tuesday guys - From: Bad Egg !! Have been keeping in touch with your stories, still great reading. | 14th August 2009 Jane | Armchair traveller - From: Waiting for a Train Jane back. I would love to do the Savannalander trip, one day! One day hmmm, but not all of us are free spirit and is why we like to read blogs of those who are. I have done a lot of travelling but the finances have caught up so just have to wait and see if another trip is in the wings. I will say that I never wrote a blog and regret it so much. I have some great memories and cannot even remember what country it was! I will be honest and say a Jane blog would read Day 1: Boring: Day 2: Boring Day 3: saw a man with a funny hat: then Day 4 would be the day I write 17 pages because it is the day I travel for. When it all comes together, that elusive experience that perhaps nobody can understand except yourself. Of course those days would be boring to all to read.!! You have done very well with your blogs, both teams! gives us armchairs a chance to travel vicariously, the thrills and the routine. The way it is. Cheers and happy anniversary! |
| 13th August 2009 kangaroojack | Hi Both, - From: Bedrock Bush Poetry WE had great fun with Darryl and Sarah, such lovely people, it was an excellent challange and I have to admit that we thought their poem was just fantastic. My best regards Andy |
| 13th August 2009 Jan Kettle | Bloggers Poet Society - From: Bedrock Bush Poetry Both poems are excellent odes but we think that the Wallaby Wanderers win by the smallest Reticulation! (but we are biased of course!) Best Wishes, Jan and Graham (Sarah's Mum and Dad) |
| 13th August 2009 kangaroojack | From the golfing poetic fossickers - From: Bedrock Bush Poetry Hi Jane, thanks for your message, we were so excited to meet them and when we did thay both are such lovely people we instantly hit it off. We found them great fun with such a sirit of adventure it was so sad to say good bye this moning, but I know we will catch up with the somewhere fab. Thanks for reading our blog, we do our best to make it as interesting and as funny as we can without any BS, its all just as it happens It started its life as a medium to tell friends and loved ones We were OK, but hoped more people would communicate back to us to tell us what was happening in their lives. Sadly this did not happen as everyone thinks they have boring lives which we know is not the truth. This blog takes us so much time we just love messages as we live in the information vacume. Caroline and I would love to know a bit about you, where you zre from etc, as we still find it fascinating that people read our blog. My best regards Andy |
| 13th August 2009 Jane | To the golfing poetic fossickers. - From: Bedrock Bush Poetry Have followed your travels and am now addicted to catching up on your blogs and photos everyday. Maybe a week ago thought I would suggest you two pairs meet up as appeared you were all on a collision course and would hit it off. Had no idea you had already been communicating. So great to hear you have met and are having great fun. Really hope your respective trips are the time of your life. Cheers. Jane |
| 11th August 2009 kangaroojack | On Board - From: Bloggers Day Out Hi Jan and Graham, great to have you guys on board, we have had such a blast with Darryl and Sarah we have all decided to stay at Mount Surprise for another day. We will be sad to part company with the Wallaby wanderers, we seem to have a lot in common and not just with the spirit of adventure. I don't think there has been a dull moment. Please feel free to comment any time you want to, we love getting messages from everyone. They are looking after the caravan for you. Take Care KJ (Caroline & Andy) |
| 11th August 2009 Jan Kettle | DASH Racing - From: Bloggers Day Out Hi, we've just been reading your last couple of blogs - fantastic that you and Sarah and Darryl were able to meet up. They've mentioned you both quite a lot over the last few months. We've also checked out some of your previous blogs and they brought back some great memories of our trip round Aus which was six years ago. We'll try to keep up with your travel blogs as they are really interesting. Carry on having fun! Best wishes, Jan and Graham (Sarah's Mum and Dad) |
| 10th August 2009 Jan & Ted Davis | Cathedral Fig Tree - From: Wallaby Wanderers Meet Kangaroo Jack Hi Andy & Caroline, Now in the wee small hours of Monday night (Tuesday morning?) having arrived home not long ago after flying home from Cairns tonight and, just checking our emails before bed (as you do! :) We were once again in your neck of the woods this morning (if you are still on the tablelands), making the most of our last day before coming back to the real world, having driven up to Atherton and Mareeba etc and, also stopping to have a look at the Cathedral Fig Tree, Lake Barrine as well as a few other places. We could just as likely have bumped into you again as we were both touring around. Lunched at the Grand Hotel in Atherton after checking out the Crystal Caves there and all things amethyst before moving on to have a look around at a few other sights before returning to Cairns late arvo. Isn't this tree just awesome? Estimated age to be somewhere around 500 years old and, just massive. And, to think, to begin life, it had to start out from a very small seed. Just amazing! Thanks again for a great night the other night which went all too quickly but, was lovely, just the same to get to talk to you "in the flesh" and to see your smiling faces once again. Enjoy the Lava Tubes. :) Luv, Jan & Ted xxx |
| 10th August 2009 willemien | - From: Wallaby Wanderers Meet Kangaroo Jack Hello Andy and Caroline, what a beautiful place you staying at, to me it reminds me of Jasper in Canada, dont now why. We went for a 140 miles bike ride yesterday, on the way back, chris brokedown in romsey, i went home while he waited for AA. They got it started, it will need a new bit????. Reading your blog this morning, makes me think it time for a curry. Take care, lots of love, Willemien. |
| 10th August 2009 kangaroojack | Those Poddy Lambs - From: Wet Stuff Dear Helen, Does that make us Aunty and Uncle. Thanks for naming those lambs, though as you have used my name without my permission, I want your express confirmation that they will NEVER go to market!!. You are an angel, can you send us some images for the blog. Hope you and Robert are fine, can you tell us how Wal the proffesional sheep dog is. woof to the others. Our love to both. Andy & Caroline |
| 9th August 2009 Jan &Ted Davis | The Fig Tree - From: We Have No Egrets, The Horses Have Them All Hi you two! It was absolutely fantastic to catch up with both of you the other night. Who would have thought that our paths would cross again when all of us are thousands of miles from our home bases? Life is full of wonderful surprises! You're right - the night did go far too quickly but you are also right in saying that, we will catch up again, sometime, somewhere. Our holiday/table tennis championships are over for another year now. Tonight is our last night in tropical Cairns and, we fly off into the wide blue yonder and home tomorrow night. It was so great to see you both and, you're right again in saying that, we did just seem to pick up where we had left off. Travel safe. You know we'll be keeping tabs on you! :) Luv and wishes, Jan & Ted xxx |
| 9th August 2009 Helen Sheridan | Pork Vindaloo - From: Wet Stuff My mouth is watering just looking at that dinner. It's tough roughing it in the wild isn't it! Have three poddy lambs named Caroline, Andy and Wendy. Poor Andy had sore eyes so I sprayed them with some eye stuff and now he is strutting around with blue around his eyes. Looks like too much eye shadow. Love your camping spot in this blog. Looks very relaxing. Lots of love, Helen |
| 4th August 2009 kangaroojack | Cairns - From: Hawaii 5-0 Hi both, hope you are well, if we get to Cairns in time we will definitely try to hook up. Our love ANDY & CAROLINE |
| 4th August 2009 Wendy & Tony | The mine - From: Little Green Bombers Hello you two. I've been looking at your progress on Google as well. I spotted the huge mine to the right of where you were at the gorge. If you haven't taken a look have a go. It's quite impressive sitting in the middle of nowhere, you can clearly see all the steps as they've dug down. Well done Andy for all that off roading. That's certainly the wilds you came across. Some of the scenery looks very rocky to the south of Savannah but no tracks. Just loads of nothing. The rivers/gorges make the land look like a brain or lungs. Take care Wendy |
| 4th August 2009 Jan & Ted Davis | Cairns - From: Hawaii 5-0 Hi Andy & Caroline, Just letting you know that Ted and I are in Cairns until Monday 10th Aug if you are heading this way. Don't know if this is on your itinerary and, if so, we will probably be back down south by the time you get here but, then again, you never know! :) Did manage to get to Cooktown the other day. Long round trip as a day trip but, did manage to get there this time (at last!!). Did about 900 k's but, still worth it! Luv Jan & Ted xx |
| 3rd August 2009 kangaroojack | Barking Mad - From: Hawaii 5-0 Hi Mum & Dad, great to see a message from you. Google Earth is great, at least you can see what kind of terrain we are in and also how unpopulated some of these places are. this is the second time I have typed this message, I think someone in the post office is trying to use the one radio wave that comes in for the internet here. We have not gone barking mad, yet, with the heat or the solitude, but there is still time. We are pleased to be writing the blog, whichever way we look at it, we have the most amazing record of our journey. You can easily forget on a daily basis what you have done and as for trying to work out which day of the week it is, well that is a tricky one! We are in Normanton tonight, hope to skype you from here later if I can keep that one radio wave for the internet later.... ;-) Take care missing you loads C xxx |
| 3rd August 2009 kangaroojack | Meteor Showers - From: Station to Station Hi Helen, thanks for the information. We will make a note, although for us to wake up at that time of the morning we will need to set the alarm! oud be great to see meteor showers in these skies at night, it is such a dark backdrop it would be spectacular. Fingers crossed for a cloudless night! C xx |
| 3rd August 2009 Helen Sheridan | Meteor showers - From: Station to Station Hi Caroline and Andy, I was listening to the radio early this morning when the space man was on and he said that there are some fairly decent meteor showers coming from 11th to the 14th I think it was between 1 and 4 in the morning. You look to the east and it is about a handspan to the left of the saucepan. Thought you might be interested in having a look. Love Helen |

| 1st August 2009 Matron | Where to next? - From: Heartbreak Hotel Hi Guys. We have been following your latest route via Google Earth and i have to say i do not know why we didn't do that before, it is really facinating. Where are you going to next? Down to Alice Springs and across to Brisbane and sidney or acroos the top and down the coast? Please let us know so thet we can travel on ahead of you guys and check it out for you. I have seen that there is the McCarthy River ahead of you where there are some fantastic opportunities for breathtaking sunsets. There is also the centre. North, West and vanderlin Islands ahead of you also that look amazing. I have attached some information for you you probably have read up already but thought i would send it you anyway. I thought this might be a way of keeping more in contact with information ahead if you let us know where you are going. The Northern Territory is a federal territory of Australia, occupying much of the centre of the mainland continent, as well as the central northern regions. It shares borders with Western Australia to the west (129th meridian east), South Australia to the south (26th parallel south), and Queensland to the east (138th meridian east). To the north, the territory is bordered by the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria. Despite its large area - over 1,349,129 square kilometres (520,902 sq mi), making it the third largest Australian federal division - it is sparsely populated. With a population of 221,100[2] it is the least populous division on the mainland. The history of the Northern Territory began over 40,000 years ago when Indigenous Australians settled the region. Makassan traders began trading with the indigenous people of the Northern Territory for trepang from at least the 18th century onwards, and very likely for 300 years prior to that. The coast of the territory was first seen by Europeans in the 17th century. The British were the first Europeans to attempt to settle the coastal regions in the 19th century; however no attempt was successful until the establishment of a settlement at Port Darwin in 1869. Today the economy is based on tourism, especially Kakadu National Park in the Top End and the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park (Ayers Rock) in central Australia, and mining. The capital city is Darwin. The population is not concentrated in coastal regions but rather along the Stuart Highway. The other major settlements are Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy in the territory's north-east. Residents of the Northern Territory are often known simply as 'Territorians'. Love to you both and hope to speak again soon. love the Barbs back in boring England. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
| 31st July 2009 Jan & Ted Davis | The Chicken Shack - From: Heartbreak Hotel Hi Andy & Caroline, Great to see The Chicken Shack is still alive and well and still touring. Did run into Frank several times on the road when we were in the Top End back in '05 - the last time being when we were at Mataranka Springs. And ..... don't feel too bad about (not yet) getting your "perfect" wedge tailed eagle photo, Caroline. I never, ever did get mine either on our extended trip to the West last year so, you're one up on me! Running away to the tropics ourselves tomorrow as we are off to Cairns for 10 days. Forgot to ask - did you get to try the Listerine on the mozzies or did it all turn out to be a local myth? The little black flying insects are probably sand flies or midges and do bite like bug*#%ry! Actually it's not a bite - it's a sting from the other end, of their excreta .... eee-yoo! :) You'd wonder how anything that minute could have such bodily functions! Also, did you get to see "Charlie" the Buffalo (who starred in the movie, "Crocodile Dundee") on the bar at the Adelaide River hotel when you were there? Happy travelling. Luv, Jan & Ted xxx |
| 30th July 2009 vburton@bigpond.net.au | brings back memories - From: The 7.00 O'clock Report Hi KJ, still loving your blog, you bring back so many memories of our trip.your discription of daly waters was so great glad to hear it hasn't lost its atmosphere. safe travelling. Norm & Vicki |
| 28th July 2009 kaz | Incentive prize!! - From: Oh Not Again !! Perhaps you need an incentive prize for comments - like a trip out to see you lol!! It's a fantastic catalogue of your adventures that you too can always treasure too. I guess everyone feels that their life is relatively dull in comparison with your outdoor adventures, so feel less inclined to comment. The number of hits show how much people are enjoying it. Lots of love & miss you Karenx |
| 28th July 2009 Mum and Dad | Oh dear.. - From: Oh Not Again !! Hi there bloggers......Was it worth going all those thousands of miles, leaving all friends and family behind only to have to type up blogs, pitch tents etc. We are only joking. We love your blogs, we get withdrawal symptoms when there aren't any. We will have to try and blog from Spain when we go! We were astounded at the floor covered in those black flies back along.....you have met such interesting people and made friends with the most amazing people to........your stories are amazing.....the sites and scenes you describe sound fabulous. Today we have had to spend time on filling out those infernal tax forms......every year they change things so now we have new forms to fill out.....they are supposed to be easier but I fail to see that, they are still after our money!!!! Take care you two......have fun....and keep on blogging. Mum and Dad xxxxxxxx |
| 26th July 2009 Mum and Dad | Black flies, etc.... - From: Blow Ants off Before Eating! Hiya.....we do not envy you the black flies.....we just go mad when a blow fly turns up.......you must be fed up with the bites....we loved the story of the wombat sleeping in the dog's kennel.....If it was in your garden I can imagine Andy making a new dog's kennel before he went to bed and leave the wombat fast asleep in dream land......Gosh....all those bats and we were not allowed to go anywhere near the bats in trees when we have been on our travels in Madagascar.....there were a few in Sri Lanka but too far away and much too hot to walk too far. Dad loved the photo of the Kenworth.....but you knew he would didn't you! Dad is slicing the runner beans..yum yum and I have made three nice cakes for tea. We hope to go to Warwick on our National Trust trip this week, weather permitting. I'd better check that this one is open!......not like last week! A plane at Gatwick had smoke in the cabin and at Heathrow the weather was bad with torrential rain so the roads were chocka.....one lady said that it took her 2 1/2 hours to go 4 miles. The ferry port was chocka too because P & O's computer broke down..... Skype you soon love and kisses xxxxxxxxxxx |
| 25th July 2009 Jan & Ted Davis | The Ghan Engines - From: Arrival of the Ghan Hi Andy & Caroline, This is one experience that everyone should definitely have at least once in their life. Ted and I did The Ghan from Darwin to Adelaide last year and then the Indian Pacific Adelaide to Sydney. Always said that when they pushed the rail line through from Alice Springs to Darwin, we'd "do" the Ghan. It was great and remains on our "to do" list as a re-do again at some stage, we enjoyed it so much. (The Indian Pacific to/from Sydney/Perth is an equally fantastic experience and, don't believe anyone who tells you that there is nothing to see going across the Nullarbor, as you well know now!) The reason you don't often get to see the brightly painted engines as depicted in the brochures and on the postcards is, that Great Southern Rail only have two - one Ghan and one Indian Pacific (in blue). At a cost of some $60,000 per engine just for the artwork, this becomes a very expensive exercise so, they are mostly only used for special occasions/trips and photo shoots although, we were lucky enough to have the Indian Pacific one Adelaide to Sydney last year! The other thing is, you will have noticed that the train had two engines. This is a regulation, that the train must always travel with two engines, even though only one is required to pull it. Because the rail line is mostly single track for vast distances between civilisation and, with very few lay bys en route, should one engine fail, they always have another in reserve. The reason being that, should the train break down in these isolated places, it would block the track for some considerable time, possibly days, before they could get repair teams or another engine to it to make it serviceable again and they can't afford the closure of the line because none of the freight trains servicing Darwin would be able to get through. See you are on the move again. Loved both Kakadu and Litchfield but, have to say, Litchfield is our favourite of the two. Seeing your photos of Wangi Falls brings back memories! Ted and I are on the move again too. Off to Cairns next Saturday for 10 days. Ted's doing battle in the Australian Insurance Table Tennis Championships and I'm going to be doing some very strenuous catch-up reading from my pile of "will get to one day" novels! Do hope to fit in a trip to Cooktown whilst we are there though. Keep up the good work! Luv, Jan & Ted xxx |
| 25th July 2009 Jodie | Lovely Litchfield - From: Kangaroo Jack is on the Move Again How beautiful is the Wangi Falls Pool! I am thrilled to read Caroline that you are still taking up the challenge of getting in the water even without me there putting on the pressure. Make sure you go to Florence Falls (for another swim of course) and do the rainforest loop walk - it is beautiful!! You guys made me laugh out loud with Andy's road rage antics - I had the visual in my mind of exactly how it would have happened. I can't believe you're still undecided about which route to take. If this helps at all there is a lot of talk about climbing Ayres Rock (Uluru) being closed to the public so if this was on the list of things to do in Aus you may want to go there sooner rather than later while you can still climb to the top. Happy travelling whichever way you go, talk to you soon Jode xoxo |
| 25th July 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Luckily my husband can park! - From: Kangaroo Jack is on the Move Again We should put together a book on bad driving habits, it would be a pretty thick volume with everything we've seen out here so far!! I've just emailed our skype name and mobile to you so we'll try and arrange a crossing of paths at some point before we head down to Alice. Have fun Dar and Sar |

| 21st July 2009 kangaroojack | Hoping - From: Hot Footin' in Darwin Hi Helen, we were hoping to go and see it today, but Andy is unwell, so he confined himself to bed all day! I know he must be l when he does that. If he is ok tomorrow then we hope to go and see it then. Cxx |
| 20th July 2009 Helen Sheridan | Cyclone Tracy - From: Hot Footin' in Darwin Hi once again - Just remembered the museum in Darwin where you can go in a room and experience the noise of cyclone Tracy. Can't remember where it was but it was in the middle of some beautiful gardens and there was a big cafe there. Also the stuffed huge crocodile as well. Love Helen |
| 20th July 2009 kangaroojack | If Only !! - From: Nothing, What a Drag! Hiya, We were in a news agents yesterday, ad I was flicking through the magazines whilst Caroline was getting a Birthday card and found a mag that was called Kenworth, obviously soley dedicated to Kenworth Trucks. Some of then were just mind blowing, yet I dought that this farther and son who both had Custom trucks his in Red and the sons in Blue really used them for logging, even the cradle trailers were custom paintd and probably have never seen a log on it ever. All the pictures we have taken were somewhere on our travels, we were at the traffics lights the other day and a Kenworth was turning right and by the time he got throught the lights for us had changed, he was pulling 3 Number 40 ft trailers. Our equation on the lenght would be this 3x40 ft 120 ft. 2x drawbar length at around 5 ft =10ft 1 x lenght of th tractor unit minus the distance up to the 5th wheel (so lenth of tractor unit from front radiator to the front of the 5th wheel 25 ft (Guess) Overall 155 ft or 46 mtrs, no wonder the lanes are wider over here, or the would never be able to turn at a junction. |
| 19th July 2009 Mum and Dad | Fantastic trucks - From: Nothing, What a Drag! Hiya. Oh, if only.......if only I could get to drive just one of those magnificient machines......just sitting in one or being taken for a trip just would not be the same.......Are there any truck driving jobs over there for a one legged ex truck driver? I can dream can't I......Dad x |
| 19th July 2009 kangaroojack | Oh! How Could We Forget? - From: The Only Good Snake is a Dead Snake Hi Jode thanks for the reminder, we knew there was another one!!! Poor little thing, must feel insignificant as we forgot to mention it. We were thinking of you guys back at work and school last week. In some ways it seems so long ago and in another it seems just a short time ago that we met you at Ceduna/the Nullarbor. A big part of our adventure was running alongside you guys, we had a blast. It has been quiet recently. But we are happy to kick back and rest before we head back out on the high way later this week. Take care and speak soon Caroline |
| 19th July 2009 Travelin Trueys | What about the orange naped snake! - From: The Only Good Snake is a Dead Snake Hey I know it was minutely small but we saw that weeny liitle orange naped snake at Middle Lagoon. Hardly impressive but should be able to be counted in your tally! Hope all's great with you guys - we feel like it was another lifetime ago now that we were travelling. Reality sets in pretty quickly, after vowing to not be so busy we are as busy as ever. Talk to you soon hopefully Jode |
| 18th July 2009 Helen Sheridan | mossies - From: Arrival of the Ghan Hi again, Just remembered that I had an old timers recipe for mosquitoes tucked away somewhere. After turning the house upside down - made me clean at any rate - I have found it if you are game to give it a go. Not sure about the smell but they say it keeps you skin soft - all the better for the mossies I guess. Anyway for what it is worth - equal parts of baby oil, solyptol or dettol and methylated spirits. Put in a spray bottle and away you go. If it is too potent for the body it may work around the camp site. should have come up with it sooner but the memory is not as good as it was - I needs Carolines memory trainer. Both James and Susan have arrived in Africa - will keep you posted. Love Helen |
| 16th July 2009 Helen Sheridan | Phone call - From: Eighty Six Hi Andy and Caroline, Thanks for the call and Wally thanks you as well. He really is frustrated having to sit on the verandah and watch the world go by. Robert wanted to take him over to the shed yesterday but I said no - he is not allowed to run around. He is happy and well and being thoroughly spoilt. It is going to be a very long 10 weeks though until he is back in circulation. I take him back to the vets. on Tuesday of next week. We will miss him as we will start the next lot of shearing next week and can't use him to help get sheep in. Oh dear, I had better practise my barking hadn't I. It was lovely to hear your voices and Robert and jason were interested and happy to hear that you had rung and wanted to know all the details. Big frost and fog this morning, you are in a better place I can tell you. Love Helen |

We are enjoying being able to go to the cinema, we have not seen the two films you mention, we may have to see those on DVD when we get chance. Hpe to see "My Sisters Keeper" before we leave Darwin, that is a weepy. Sunshine Cleaning also looks quite good, I think that is what we hope to see later this week. x C |
| 13th July 2009 kangaroojack | T-Shirt - From: Suited and Booted Hi Wen and Tone, I bought a T-shirt and bra (black one to wear under T-shirt). Camera Lens more important though, anxious for news on its return and not to mention how much it will cost to get fixed, so cannot do much proper shopping even though I need new shorts, all of my shorts are hanging off me at the moment, quite fashionable to show the tops of your knickers though, shorts are also wearing out as I am wearing nothing but shorts. C xx |
| 13th July 2009 kangaroojack | Work & Footy - From: Cheap Night Out! Hi Ken and the TT's, thanks for your lovely message, we have been thinking of you today, knowing that it is all about getting back to normality. Motivation is hard after a trip of of this nature, but I am sure once work is started the trip becomes a distant memory too soon, but for us, we carry on at the moment. Sorry to hear about Kahls and the footy, hope things get sorted. We have been busy cleaning the tent and the truck, also sorting out our gear, and getting reorganised for when we hit the road again. I hate to rub it in but boy its hot up here, phew! There is a black cloud overhead though, but for Northern Territory people they seem to think that does not mean they will get rain. We could live in hope, a downpour would be great to cool things down and of course wash the dust and the bird poo off the tent! Miss you guys, Love KJ |
| 12th July 2009 Ken | Back to the real world - From: Cheap Night Out! Hi KJs, Jode and the kids have gone off to work and school, I am waiting for frames to be delivered to start my next house so I need to find a little bit of work for a week or so to get me off my backside. Hard to get motivated in this cold plus I need a bit of chill time for myself after all the driving and we haven't stopped since we got back emptying the car and van cleaning them out and washing them. Josh was back playing footy on Saturday but Kahl's was told she would not get a game this year by the coach because they have nine players. She was mortified. my little girl was hurting badly and I wanted blood, it took every bit of strenght to calm my self and talk to the coach with out going off my nut (after everything Jode and I have done for that club) any way we've been thrown strait back in the thick of it. seeing some of your photos of places we've been takes you straight back there. Keep having fun.Miss you Guys. Love Ken and the TTs |
| 12th July 2009 Wendy & Tony | Shopping bags - From: Suited and Booted Aw, come on, what did you buy Caroline???? We know about camera lenses and gas bottles. What us girls want to know is did you treat yourself to something nice! It was good to chat on Skype again. Isn't technology clever. You are so far away yet we can chat like you're next door. Good luck with getting work Andy, that'll be a bit of shock after so long on the road! xx |
| 12th July 2009 Steve | Films - From: Cheap Night Out! Hi, Hope you got the pics of Laura's Prom in your box? We watched the boy in striped PJ's awhile back and enjoyed it... another couple od films we got from blockbuster last week.. sad weepies with good stories were 'The Reader' with Kate Winslet and 'The mysterious case of Benjamin Button' with Brad Pitt well worth watching. Perhaps you'll have time to watch them now you have some downtime. X Steve www.kontrolsports.co.uk |
| 12th July 2009 Willemien | camping - From: Cheap Night Out! Never been again. Lots of love Willemien xx |

| 10th July 2009 kangaroojack | Wally, does he need us !! - From: The End? Hi Helen, Does Wally need us to come back and hold his paw, if he does we will. Say hi to Robert for me, has he got the spray unit sorted now. My regards Andy |
| 9th July 2009 Helen Sheridan | Wally - From: The End? Hi, An update on Wally. He has ruptured the ligaments and chipped bone on the main joint in his back leg. He has an operation at the university on Monday to put him back together. They will either rejoin the ligaments or if they cant do that they will put in nylon ones. Wally, the bionic dog. He should be back to work in about 3 months we hope. Meanwhile Robert has a big dog in with Kimba and he is very keen but she just snarls at him and backs into one of the kennels. I think the big dog will have to go home in disgrace. He has the biggest, lowest, loudest bark you have ever heard. I got up and yelled at him last night and he just barked back. So it looks like no puppies this time and we were hoping for some as we have quite a few people wanting them. Perhaps I should have brought Wally home for the week but I was afraid he would try jumping in and out of the yard and doing more damage. Oh, well, maybe next time. Sound lovely and warm up there. Freezing and cold down here with big frosts. Warmed up a bit now and rain expected this weekend and early next week. You wouldn't recognise the place. I will endeavour to send some photos. I have been back at work a couple of days a week for the last three weeks. Boy is that tiring, don't know how I did it before. Love, Helen |
| 9th July 2009 kangaroojack | DVD's - From: Blog Stats so far Hi Gary, thanks for your great comment. I am cutting DVD's, I manage to get a whole month of my pictures onto one DVD, I cut the DVD's yesterday for Andys pictures, managed to get 3 months onto one DVD, Andy is taking plenty of pictures, but his are slightly smaller in size than mine (7.2 compared to 10.3 million pixels). This country just lends itself to any photographer, but the light in many places has to be just right, sometimes the harsh midday sun just does not give the right effect. I am lost without my main camera lens and look forward to its return. Caroline |
| 8th July 2009 Gary | Your Blog - From: Blog Stats so far How can anyone not love your blog's? They are such a mirror of yourselves and a wonderful commentary on the places you have visited in Australia. Are you cutting CD's or DVD's? You get a whole lot more onto a DVD. Take care and ENJOY. Whether its travel or work!!! |
| 8th July 2009 Steve | - From: Blog Stats so far Trailer tents in the outback may be fine but back in blighty there will be a *lot* of cold nights and they are more expensive in comparison to caravans which are better at isulation from the heat/cold... and they are quicker to set up :-) It's good you got a great 4x4 for the trip I think the patrol was highly rated on Top queer in the Uk with 32000 klicks thats an average of 600 miles a week, great going. We have just converted our car to LPG to keep the costs down here in the UK as it is over £1.00 a litre now compared with 46p for LPG. Having lovely britiash weathe rhere now... the heatwave has subsided and given into intermittant sporadic downpours... jacki said we have this until the end of August :-( Visit my website for quality leading brand sports sunglasses at affordable prices ... great for the Australian weather! http://www.kontrolsports.co.uk |
| 6th July 2009 kangaroojack | Wally - From: 9 Years Ago in New York Oh Helen, Andy and I are so sorry to hear about Wally, please keep us posted, hmmm... I wonder what the vet will find, perhaps he strained himself while giving Kimba a bit too much of the love thing ;-). We would love to see the farm now except if you are expecting El Nino then we will stay away.... and its probably too cold down there, we are enjoying these lovely Darwin temperatures. The other dogs won't have the ever sensible Wally to look up to while he is out of action. Love C&A xx |
| 6th July 2009 Sheridan Helen | Wally - From: 9 Years Ago in New York Hi to the two T's, The farm is good, in fact looks totally the opposite to when you were here. It is amazing what a bit of rain will do. Hope it keeps up although they are predicting another El Nino this year - oh woe is me! Hope they are wrong. A bit of bad news. Poor Wally is in hospital. I took him in this morning with a sore leg. It has been sore off and on for a fortnight. Anyway the short version is they were xraying and looking under anaesthetic this afternoon - may have a dislocation and could mean an expensive operation and long recovery. Then again it just might be torn ligaments. Don't know how he did it. He wont jump onto the Toyota but seems to manage to jump the fence and get in with Kimba for a bit of loving! Will keep you posted. I felt so sad leaving him at the vets. Love Helen |
| 4th July 2009 kangaroojack | Boy in the striped Pyjamas - From: Human Soup Hi Helen, Oh do go and see it, it was fantastic, we both loved the film, it was subtley gripping, without being to violent. I might give the book ago. Hope you and Robert are well, along with the gang of 6, and the chooks, how's is the farm, anymore rain yet. Our love. Andy & Caroline |
| 4th July 2009 Helen Sheridan | Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - From: Human Soup I am glad to hear you enjoyed the film, I have recently read the book and cried floods of tears so wasn't too keen on the movie. However now I think I would like to see it without the loud pop music at the end. Love Helen |
| 30th June 2009 Wendy & Tony | Slogans on cars - From: Donald “Don” McGregor Hi Andy & Caroline. I can understand you wanting to lighten up on the blog work. You put a lot in to it. I'm sure everyone will understand you doing less of them, but please don't give up completely! The photo of the car with the slogan reminded me of one I took a photo of in NZ. It said "I'm not a gynaecologist but I'll take a look"! We are also sweltering in humidity at the moment. Drip, drip drip! Catch you on Skype soon. Wendy xx |

| 30th June 2009 willemien | haircut - From: Three Dog Night hi andy and caroline The haircut story is very funny, i see you rolling on the floor now. I just had a haircut myself, i had a lucky escape. Chris still has no luck finding a job, im looking for a big cardboardbox, to move in too. ( only joking for now). Its very hot here again, a pain in the watsit. 5.45pm we are having tunapasta, so i say goodbye. lots of love willy xx |
| 28th June 2009 Jan Davis | Mozzies - From: Donald “Don” McGregor Hi Andy & Caroline, Haven't tried this as yet (not too much need in the middle of winter!) so, don't know if it works or not but, worth a try. Have heard that if you spray the ordinary mouthwash, Listerine, around (not on yourself) - tables, chairs, picnic tables etc, it is an effective mozzie repellant (not bad as a mouthwash either! :) that can work for up to a couple of days. As I said, haven't tried it but, thought I would pass it along for what it's worth. Were in your area a couple of years ago but, during the Wet so, had to content ourselves with a flight over Jim Jim and Twin Falls as the area was impenetrable by road. Still spectacular to see all of that monsoon water thundering over the falls. Had been in the Top End during The Dry a couple of years before that but, wanted to see the contrast. Did get to see come really spectacular thunderstorms and lightning shows whilst in Kakadu and Darwin too. A daily blog can certainly become an onerous task especially when external factors play a role - heat, humidity, dust, flies, restless nights and MOZZIES! Even the most intrepid traveller and adventurer can want to chuck it all in. Extended travelling does take a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We hope (as I'm sure all of your readers do, too) that you do manage to "box on". Let us know if the Listerine works! Cheers and hang in there. :) Luv, Jan & Ted xxx |

| 26th June 2009 Mum and Dad | Ants also known as mite - From: Essential Maintenance i there. We sympathise with you re the mossies and ants, having had battles with these ourselves in another country. We were visiting Vietnam in a group and on entering our . bedroom in the hotel we looked at the delicious packets of figs and dates left for us and thought we would feast on them whilst resting as we had just arrived. We were horrified to find as we opened the tightly packages ofsweet meats.....thousands of red mite/ants.......these creatures had made a trail right across our bed and out through the window......we had to call the housekeeper to dispose of them....A member of our group had a suitcase full of food (yes, food!!) This couple thought that they would not like Asian food ( I ask you, what on earth were they doing travelling the world if they did not like foreign food.).....They opened their suitcase and we heard the screams along the corridor.....their suitcase of food was ruined by millions of these red mite. We were staying in a hotel in Laos where we going to visit the Plain of Jars....I pulled the curtains to close them for the night, but the curtain pole fell down and I was covered in ants.....many of them biting me as I had disturbed their family who had made a home in the hollow of the curtain pole. Mum xx |
| 26th June 2009 willemien | chow mein - From: Donald “Don” McGregor Hi Andy and Caroline,Im still following your travels, always want something to eat, like damper, or chow mein, i like eating outside. We are having showers and thunder here, it has been a bit hot, not as hot as were you are. I dont like mozzies, this time of year, you get eaten alive in holland, im glad i left that behind. Lots of love Willy and Chris. P.s Michael Jackson died last night, king of pop. |
| 26th June 2009 kangaroojack | Ubirr - From: The water is cold and the mosquito’s are free Hi Helen, we did not even consider where Crocodile Dundee was filmed, Andy and I said we should watch the film again to see if we recognise it. The sunset was beautiful, there are so many people sitting on the rock to watch it. When the sun goes down it lights up and changes the landscape behind you, it is stunning and most definitely worth the walk (twice!!) It would be good to see it when the sun comes up, but you are not allowed to get in until 8.00 and it is too late for sunrise then. C xx |
| 26th June 2009 kangaroojack | Tawny Frog Mouths - From: Travelling Blind We love the Tawny Frog Mouths, we were lucky to see this one in particular hunting and when he flew down to catch his prey no more than 2 feet away from where we were sitting, it was just amazing. We could not see them in the daytime at Katherine, exceptionally well camouflaged, we were lucky to see them in the daytime in Carnarvon. I still think Nature is amazing! Caroline |
| 25th June 2009 Gary | Caravan Parks - From: Travelling Blind One of the interesting sidelights of your blog is the number of caravan parks you stop in, are some the of the same ones we stopped in. Brought to light by the Big4 in Katherine. We were there. Aren't the Tawny Frog Mouths interesting. So hard to see when in the trees. Unfortunately we didn't see any of them flying. Keep up the good work. Later!!! |
| 25th June 2009 Helen Sheridan | Memories - From: The water is cold and the mosquito’s are free You are bringing back memories of Ubir to us. What a fantastic view. Straight out of crocodile Dundee. I thought they had doctored the image for the film but not at all. Just stunning and the sunset was worth the walk. Lots of love, Helen |
| 18th June 2009 TT's | Snap Snap from Kakadu - From: In to the Territories Hello fellow travellers - remember us?? We are staying in Jabiru in Kakadu. We will be heading to Katherine but not for a few days. Are you thinking of coming this way to Darwin - be great to catch up and you could meet my parents who have heard loads about you - not just the bad stuff ha ha. You'll be pleased to know we have full internet service here at Kakadu Lodge and its got a really fab pool with an awesome waterfall - we know how much you love to swim! Got a roast we need to cook and you're camp oven would be perfect - we might even share it with you. Hope this entices you to look us up. We're all excellent hope you are too. | 15th June 2009 kangaroojack | Touching Base - From: Swiss Cheese Hi there Jan and Ted! We were only talking about you a few days before your message popped up. Glad you are still with us on our travels, trying to make things as interesting as possible. I like the idea of a week on the Murray River!! sounds nice and relaxing. We loved Broome and you will probably have read by now that we have been into the Bungles, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Catch up soon. C&A x |
| 11th June 2009 Jan & Ted Davis | Back in Touch - From: Swiss Cheese Hi Andy and Caroline, Been awhile since we've touched base and no, we haven't really fallen off the face of the earth! Have been doing a bit of getting out into the great outdoors ourselves the last couple months. A bit of camping, a bit of motorhoming - not quite so adventurous as yourselves but, a week here, a week there, etc - and just back from spending a week floating down the Murray River in SA on a houseboat. What a great way to watch the world go by! Still keeping up with your daily adventures although, we had quite a bit of reading to do to catch up since getting home but, back on track again now. We were in your current neck of the woods a couple of years ago when doing a camping safari from Darwin to Broome so, are really enjoying hearing about your experiences in these places as we can relate only too well. They say silence is golden but, just know, we are still here, following you along! :) Keep up the good work! Luv, Jan & Ted xxx PS Don't miss the Bungle Bungles |
| 9th June 2009 kangaroojack | Morning - From: What a croc !! Hi Gary, wow we are so pleased you are still on board, the scenery is excellent and hopefully will only get better, today (Wednesday) we are heading off to Kununarra. We would just be interested to know a bit more about you really, out of being inquisative, where you live, what you do etc etc. If you fancy telling us a bit about yourselves do feel free to drop us a line. Our very best regards ndy & Caroline. |
| 9th June 2009 Gary | Travels - From: What a croc !! Still enjoying, very much, your travel blog. You are sure going into some lovely territory. Looking forward to more of your adventure. |
| 1st June 2009 kangaroojack | Still reading the blog - From: Where Dinosaurs Trod Hi Both, glad to see you are settling in to your adventure, If you want a good camp site in Glen Innes go to Craigieburn Camp site and ask for Helen and Robyn, (Nice People). We have heard about the weather in NSW and Qld, and I would just get a wiggle on North of Cairnes if you want some decent weather, we have just got back to Broome for a couple of days, then we will work out whats next. Its nice to see people who apprecaite just how hard it is to produce a blog everyday, and it just gets harder, with computer failures and the like. Stay safe and maybe we will eventually meet. Kangaroojack |
| 30th May 2009 Darryl and Sarah | We're still reading the blogs! - From: Where Dinosaurs Trod It gets harder now we're travelling to but we've caught up with the ones that we'd missed! You're having such a great time and your weather is better than ours in Sydney!!! Take care Sarah and Darryl |

| 20th May 2009 kangaroojack | Beautiful Ute's etc. - From: Beautiful Ute's,4x4's and great Vehicles We love seeing the different vehicles on the road, they all have seem to have something unique but they all have the same idea. We prefer the idea of something that you can still off road with giving accessibility. Will hopefully get more pictures up if we can. Caroline |
| 20th May 2009 kangaroojack | HMAS Sydney - From: Old Mal Hi David, thanks for your comments, we don't want to rewrite history, probably one of those things that we will never know the truth on Caroline |
| 19th May 2009 Gary | Utes - From: Beautiful Ute's,4x4's and great Vehicles Absolutely love all the pictures of the vehicles. The Aussies sure know how to do their caravanning, don't they. So many different variations. The campervans meant to do the real outback are the ones I thought are amazing. Built for going where 'no man has gone before'. |
| 16th May 2009 david kennedy | hmas sydney - From: Old Mal I would take the official version of the sinking as open to query. The present inquiry will nort finish the debate. Cheers. David |
| 13th May 2009 kangaroojack | Turkey - From: Naked Banana We enjoyed the Pinnacles and the sunset was amazing, pity there was not any cloud it would have made the sunset much more dramatic, but we cannot have everything. I will check out your pictures, looking forward to seeing them. There are all sorts of rock formations around Australia, each one of them as stunning as the next (better if the light is perfect for them). Hope you manage to catch up on the blog! C xx |
| 13th May 2009 kangaroojack | Having Fun - From: Elephants Don't Live In Holes Hi, yes, WA is pretty gorgeous and there is so much to see with vast distances in between! Hope your plans are going well, will try to keep up with your progress. |
| 11th May 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Happy memories! - From: Elephants Don't Live In Holes Great to see you enjoying WA - we love it and can't wait to enjoy it again! |
| 9th May 2009 Kaz | - From: Naked Banana What interesting rock formations - must have been wonderful watching the sun set over them. Have a look at my Cappadocia pics from Turkey - those formations are really interesting and have been hollowed out to make houses & storage facilities. I can't believe it is 6 months u have been away - the time has flown by. Been a bit busy of late to read your blog so loads of catching up to do on it. Love Kx |
| 1st May 2009 Trueys | Going soft - From: Home Sweet Home Hey KJ hope you're not getting too used to the good life there - we still doing it tough out here ha ha! Kalbarri is gorgeous - Caroline we saw wild goats in the Nat. Park and today as we drove out a herd of about 20 ran across the road in front of us. Nearing monkey Mia an emu tried to get himself run over in front of us - crossing and then doubling back over. Then to top it off we went for a little sunset walk on the beach and what should pop up but 5 friendly dolphins!! Talk about nature day. Thought you'd enjoy hearing about all the animals. Anyway keep enjoying your travels and don't get to used to the life of luxury!! Love and hugs Trueys |
| 30th April 2009 alibut cheek | Lamb Roast - From: Is it Monkey? G'day you Very Clean Campers! Well, I was thinking about your Lamb Roast, envious and drooling more than a little, because you described it so well. Aren't Camp Kitchens the greatest!? Something we've noticed too - no matter how much red wine you throw in with whatever you are cooking, it's never too much. Why is that? Talking about noisy cretins that don't consider others . . . We experienced the absolute worst once. It was the worst kind of violent domestic argument. Unbelievable!! The 'free' campground was full that night, including dozens of young kids on Scout and Girl Guide campouts . . . and they would have heard the whole thing which went on for hours. So nothing surprises the seasoned camper these days. How sad hey? But Tassie was 'peaceful', wasn't it! Happy travels! Lee & Marilyn |
| 28th April 2009 Jodie | Possum magic - From: Carrot Tops !! G'day fellow campers Trueys here. We finally have service again. After leaving you guys we drove and drove making it all the way to Cervantes (near the Pinncales) well almost there. Bloody long weekend everything was booked out. Spent another night free camping in Tuart Reserve (Camps Aus No. 426) - yes we bought the book! No service again so I'm way behind as usual. There was one other van there when we arrived and over the next hour or so we ended up with 6 camplots. Not nearly as much fun without you guys! No campfire, no possums, no kangaroos, no music but nice enough spot. We have made it to Kalbarri now and have booked in for 3 nights - what a treat, we haven't had 3 nights in one spot since we left! Anyway we loved hanging out with you guys and hope we cross paths again. You must be popular Kahls has wrote about you two in her email to her classmates - thats a pretty big rap. Keep in contact and stay safe The Trueys |
| 28th April 2009 kangaroojack | Thank You! - From: Guess who's back in Town Thanks Gary for pointing out the error, I should go back and correct it. Regard Caroline |
| 28th April 2009 kangaroojack | Preserving One's Dignity - From: Carrot Tops !! Hi, the bush camp we set up was great and a real bonus to have a bush shower, there was another camper nearby but they had the posher ensuite version with a 12v pump, the water was heated in solar bags during the day and then topped up with water heated in a billycan on the campfire. There was no way I was going the whole hog with people around as ours was only makeshift, but it was good fun. Best time to shower in the bush is when there is no breeze, early evening/late afternoon, then you don't feel quite so cold when you get wet!Swine Flu is not quite here, but I believe it is expected. Take care C&A xxxx |
| 28th April 2009 kangaroojack | Deflowered - From: First Night Virgins Hi Guys, It was great meeting you two, and enjoyed the time we spent in the bush. Keepin touch and safe travels. Kangaroojack |

| 27th April 2009 Mum and Dad | "If my friends could see me now!" - From: Carrot Tops !! Hiya. We do envy you both......The photos are great and the shower really cool..... Sophisticated Caroline in the "almost all together" in the Australian bush....we like it! Look after yourselves......stay away from the swine flu if you can. Love and kisses |
| 27th April 2009 Mirjam & Dave | Deflowered - From: First Night Virgins Hiya Mates, We read your blog. We had a great deal of fun while reading it. We are now officially deflowered (of course still not sexually, but in the camping thing:P) Have a nice trip you guys! Greetings, Dave and Mirjam |
| 27th April 2009 Gary | Love the blog - From: Guess who's back in Town Keep up the great blog. Hope it doesn't take away from your journey of a lifetime. The blog does take time, doesn't it. Checked out the other blogs you mentioned. At this point Les & Marilyn only have one entry. Hope they get more up so that I can follow their adventures too. The Trumans link that you put up is incorrect. Here is the correct one: http://www.getjealous.com/Travelintrueys ENJOY Gary |
| 23rd April 2009 kangaroojack | Wombats & WA - From: The Permanent residence of Mr & Mrs Smith Hi Lee and Marilyn, thanks for your comments, ooops we didn't actually miss the 20th, unfortunately the date entry was wrong so I have now corrected. With regards to wombats and photos of wombats, this is a serious problem, we have not seen any since leaving Tasmania!!! We are not sure if wombats are in WA, we were assured that we would see them on the Nullarbor, but no, not a single live animal apart from a snake. I keep promising Andy pancakes but we never seem to have time to do them. Glad that you are reading the blog, we really enjoyed our time with you on Cradle Mountain and hope that we can see you sometime soon. Take care Caroline & Andy |
| 23rd April 2009 kangaroojack | Laugh Out Loud - From: The Permanent residence of Mr & Mrs Smith Hi Tina, thanks for your comment, glad the blog makes you laugh out loud, Andy does have a way with words!! Perth is really quite nice, even though the weather turned suddenly cold causing me to put a fleece on again! I read your very long email and will try to find time to respond shortly.Love to you and Paul & Sydney & Planty & Cactus and anyone else I forgot to mention... C xx |
| 22nd April 2009 Lee & Marilyn Harris | Word Count Exceeded - From: The Permanent residence of Mr & Mrs Smith Dear Andy and Carol, Tch tch! Having to keep a watchful eye on you as you have skipped the 20th. I hope this is merely a server problem (like “Error 200,000 - Word Count Exceeded” or similar) . . . If this is not the case then I say poor show. (Don’t let writer’s cramp get the better of you, there are people relying on your blog). Also . . . I don’t mean to be picky but I notice photos and mentions of Wombats have fallen off rather seriously (Please refer 10th to 12th March in particular). Can something be done about that? Do they not have Wombats in WA? With love (and spoonful) from Lee and Marilyn |

| 5th April 2009 Gary | Outback - From: Crossroads of Australia Stock up on potable water. Lots of 'bore' water outback and not fit for drinking. We had no troubles in our travels, mind we did stay in caravan parks. Somebody famous once said: Walk tall and carry a big stick!!! ENJOY |

| 5th April 2009 Gary | Travels - From: Crossroads of Australia I am so envious. You appear to be heading in the general direction of our trip last spring (fall here in Canada). Love the blog and will continue to follow you wonderful journey. mytb.org/ThePass |
| 5th April 2009 Jan Davis | Kings in Grass Castles - From: Crossroads of Australia Hi Andy & Caroline, You are now starting to get into the "real" outback areas of our vast country. Woomera you will find fascinating as it was once the "rocket range" where test rocket launchings and firings were carried out, mostly during the 50's & 60's. Lots of intersting stuff to look at. Sydney Kidman was one of Australia's wealthiest cattle barons and greatest land owner. Eventually his land holdings consisted of more than a hundred cattle stations reaching from South Australia to the Gulf of Carpentaria in northern Qld, covering and area greater than 125,000 square miles. This is more than the total area of England, Scotand, Wales and Ireland combined and, amounting to around 3% of Australia. The Kidman Way is also named after him. Starting out as a "beef road", enabling him to get his livestock from western Queensland to the rich beef markets in the south - Adelaide, Sydney & Melbourne - today, it is a well-travelled highway of approx 800kms through outback NSW, stretching from Jerilderie (bushranger country, Ned Kelly, etc) in the south through Hillston, Cobar, Bourke and on to Barringun just south of the Qld border. Also, if you want a good read about another of our pioneering families, grab a copy of "Kings in Grass Castles" by Mary Durack. The Durack family were almost solely responsible for opening up the vast Kimberley Region of north-western Australia and, even today, still hold the record for the longest cattle drive in history from the eastern states to Western Australia. Cheers, Jan & Ted PS The "mini tornado's" you will see a lot of throughout the outback are commonly known as "willy-willy's". Don't normallly do a lot of damage but, don't ever get caught in one or stand in one as you will get peppered with sticks and stones and other debris as well as covered in choking dust! Doesn't do the duco on your vehicle any good either. :) xxx |
| 4th April 2009 Helen | - From: Penfold, Trusty Sidekick or Winemaker? Hi, Just thought I would mention the car and motorbike museum in the Barossa. Well worth a visit and it is huge. I should have mentioned it earlier but only just remembered. Love the blog - am enjoying your trip. Love Helen |
| 2nd April 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Stamford Grand Glenelg - From: April Fools Day That's where we spent the last night of our honeymoon in February 2000! We hadn't booked anywhere and just wandered into the foyer looking like tramps but wound up with a 2 night stay with special room & honeymoon dinner for about £100 all in - result! It's right next to the end of the tram line and alot of street entertainers hang around there, it's great fun and the view across the sea is tremendous! Happy memories! So glad that you two are having so much fun, we're picking up so many good ideas from your blogs. I've just been searching for a car charger for the laptop...also Dell!! We start our journey going anti-clockwise from Melbourne so you never know, we might cross paths which would be fab. Must go ... clock's ticking!!! Dar & Sar |
| 27th March 2009 The Blytons | Sorry we missed you at KI - From: Twelve A’Possums Got your message, we are just on the ferry going back over to the mainland. Heading for Adelaide this arvo. Your blog is fabulous, we will be reading often, keep in touch. We had trouble getting on a ferry, this was the only one until Monday, so we decided to go as we had seen everything. Unfortunately we have limited time so we are making the most of our time and getting back while we can, saw everything on the island anyway. Cheers Sharon, Tim & Wade xxx |

| 25th March 2009 Mum and Dad | Pasties and snakes - From: Going to K I We remember those days in Trewoon and the delicious pasties but also I remember that when I was walking up the hill to your school to work on dinner duty when I saw what I thought was a very large snake on the path in the distance......as I approached it I realised that it was a leather belt that had curled in the hot sunshine and looked like a real snake...thank goodness it wasn't. We have had corrugated roads in the USA......all shaken up at the end of the journey...we behave like kids and become vocal as the car judders and shudders over the bumps. xxxxx |
| 25th March 2009 Liz and Rick | More adventures - From: The Golden Caterpillar We have become groupies! Can't wait to read about the next adventure of the T's. Safe travelling and enjoy Kangaroo island. What an expensive ferry ride! |
| 24th March 2009 kangaroojack | Loving our work !! - From: Home of A Legend Hi Jan and Ted, hope you are both well, have to say that because you enjoy "reading our work" it gives us a reason for doing it. Keep up the messages we love them. A&C xxx |
| 23rd March 2009 Jan & Ted | The Coorong - From: Home of A Legend Hi Andy & Caroline, If you are still in the vicinity, make sure you check out Chinamen's Wells there in The Coorong. Historical sites with actual water wells constructed by early immigrant Chinese who came to Australia during the gold rushes in the 1800's. When the Victorian Government put a "tax" of 10 pounds on people (particularly the Chinese) arriving on their shores on their way to the goldfields, the Chinese came up with the idea that they would "land" in South Australia and then walk the rest of the way into Victoria, thereby avoiding the 10 pound tax. Of course, it was a very long walk through some very barren and inhospitable country and they needed drinking water so, they built a series of these wells so that they could be sure of available water to sustain them on their journey. Still well (pardon the pun!) preserved and, one still with water in it, even today. Love your work! Love Jan & Ted xxx |
| 23rd March 2009 kangaroojack | Salt - From: Done and Dusted Next time we go hiking shall take salt in my back pack. I hate leeches they make such a mess!! Caroline |

| 18th March 2009 Jan & Ted | 12 Apostles - From: S*x is like !! Hi Andy & Caroline, Great photos! These scenes bring back a lot of memories for us from when we lived in Melbourne years ago and used to drive the GOR on weekends, etc. You will get some of the wildest weather in Australia along this strip of the coast but, even so, still well worth the drive, whatever the weather - fine, sunny, wet, cold or "blow-your-head-off" windy. The GOR has many moods and, the scenery just as spectacular, whatever the weather! Easy to see why this is known as the Shipwreck Coast. In the old days, many a sailing boat came to grief on the treacherous reefs and rocky coastlines that abound along here. Warrnambool is a decent-sized town and, Flagstaff Hill, well worth a visit. Re the Wicked campervans - aren't they great? and, all individual. We love reading the different sayings and phrases on each one. Very amusing! Cheers. Love, Jan & Ted xxx |
| 15th March 2009 Jan and Ted | Leeches - From: Done and Dusted Hi Andy & Caroline, I'm a country girl - up until I got married anyway (and still one at heart) and, NEVER, EVER, got used to leeches. Still dislike them intensely but, one thing that will dispatch them quicker than anything else is to sprinkle them with ordinary table salt. Works instantly. Happy hiking! Love, Jan |
| 14th March 2009 kangaroojack | Armchair Travel - From: Amazing Hi Jan and Ted, thanks for your comments. Glad you are still enjoying our "daily drivel", we do enjoy writing it, lets hope we don't run out of things to say before the end of our journey otherwise you and all of our other blog readers will get bored. Heres to some more adventure. Catch up soon Caroline & Andy |
| 14th March 2009 kangaroojack | Damper - From: “Cocky’s Joy” Hi Helen, this is the third time I have heard of Damper this week. We will have to try some. Hope you are all well on the farm, and great new about your 15mm of rain. It is pouring on Tasmania today, we believe it has come from Victoria, I do hope that it was with you for a while first. Please can you tell Wally that he is Andy's favourite and he is missing him very much. I on the other hand think all of the dogs are great and miss them all, poor trixie, hope she is feeling better now. Love Caroline &Andy |
| 14th March 2009 Jan & Ted | Congratulations! - From: Amazing Hi Andy & Caroline, Congratulations on your 10,000th blog hit! You do realise, don't you, that you now have such a huge following that, you can't possibly give up now, even if you wanted to - you've created a monster (albeit a great one! :) We always enjoy your daily "drivel" episodes (our armchair travelogue) - one of the highlights of our day to read and see what you have been up to next. Great photos too. We look forward to catching up again in person sometime when you are back on the mainland again. Love, Jan & Ted xx |
| 13th March 2009 Helen | Cockys Joy - From: “Cocky’s Joy” Hi Andy and Caroline, I remember the golden syrup and butter version as well. Usually home made butter after milking the cow and separating the cream from the milk and then making the butter. We had it only last year when we had children for a visit and had a bonfire below the house. Made up damper dough and then rolled it around green willow sticks and cooked over the fire and then pulled them off and filled the middle with cockys joy. To die for. Love Helen |
| 13th March 2009 Jan & Ted | Childhood Memories - From: “Cocky’s Joy” Hi guys, Yes, "cocky's joy" was a favourite spread for bread during the Depression and World War years because it was cheap and golden syrup does store almost forever but, the formulation was actually equal parts of butter and golden syrup mixed together into a smooth spread. As kids, my brother and I were introduced to it by our Dad as it was a favourite of his. Being from humble farming folk, money was never plentiful but, we always had this sweet treat to savour. Tastes even better on fresh damper, an Aussie homemade type of bread (more like a huge scone really!) and not the stuff they sell as damper in some bread shops. Washed down with steaming, hot billy tea (water boiled in a billycan over an open fire with a handful of tea thrown in once boiled). A real taste treat. You'll have to try it! :) Keep up the good work! Jan & Ted |
| 12th March 2009 Darryl and Sarah | Making an impact - From: I’m Having a Great Time I’ve Got the Scars to Prove It!! Hey you guys. Wombat count is impressive! | 2nd March 2009 Chris | Wildlife - From: The Aussie Air You forgot one: Tassie tigers: 0. If the snake was in Tassie, it'll more likely be a tiger snake. No Eastern browns in that state. Chris. |
| 1st March 2009 kangaroojack | Hi - From: Tasmania Hi Helen, Thanks for the note, Caoline is much better she went down like a bag of spuds. Hope every one is good and missing you all, say woof to all the boys and girls.(Especially Wally) but don't tell the others. All our love Andy & Caroline |
| 1st March 2009 Helen | Fat Lip - From: Tasmania Sorry to hear about the fat lip. Know how it feels having had 8 stitches in mine a couple of years ago after a run in with a sheep and a gate. Sipping Soup through a straw gets a bit boring after a while. Glad you are enjoying Tassie - pretty country isn't it and glad that you have seen some Wombats. Found out when we were crutching the other day that one of the shearers comes from Tumbarumba up past Tumut and they have heaps up there. Still no rain. Love Helen |
| 1st March 2009 kangaroojack | Tumble - From: Tasmania Thank you, I am feeling a lot better though still very sore, Andy has promised pictures, but they wont be too gruesome. Tassie is a great place, just a little bit cold at times so remember to bring a fleece with you! Caroline |

| 20th February 2009 kangaroojack | Wolf Spider - From: "Ned Kelly's Last Stand" Never wishing ever to be smarty pants, we have done a bit of back ground on wolf spiders and your jungle man is incorrect. Wolf spiders frequent Australia and, pass this site on to him if he is into spiders, a good web site, sorry about the pun is. http://museumvictoria.com.au/spiders/detail.aspx?pid=21&pic=1 Our best regards. Oh PS Have a look at a Compant called Gary Grick Nissan in Nambour they are a very good Nissan dealer. |

| 15th February 2009 kangaroojack | Molasses - From: "Excalibur" Robert said that they mix Molasses in with the silage, although not always. The frail sheep are not sent to the freezer, it is not cost effective. There are many rules and regs over here (probably same as UK), not to mention RSPCA watching, you are not allowed to sell crippled or sick sheep at market. No Andy will not be buying a farm, I think the novelty would wear off after a while and neither of us would be able to bear taking the sheep to market. C&Axx |
| 15th February 2009 kangaroojack | Blog - From: Dinner with Friends Hi Pete, thanks for your message, glad you are enjoying the blog, really sorry about the job situation, but glad you have found something to be going on with. | 8th February 2009 kangaroojack | Struggeling - From: All aboard the love bus Hi Steve, Thanks for your message, we are not struggeling,we are on a 6000 acre sheep farm and the fires are a long way away. The smoke has drifted around 300K's and you can smell it in the air, but nothing serious. The weather has cooled today as they said it would, so its quite civilised. Having a wonderful life experience, you want to try it sometime. Andy |

| 5th February 2009 Kaz | - From: "On the Fly" Canopy walks are amazing - have done several - remember the one in Taman Negara in Malaysia which is quite long - (supposed to be the oldest virgin rainforest in the world) - just an iron ladder with a bit of netting over it in places to walk on - and in some places a fat Canadian guy bouncing around infront making me feel a bit seasick - it is a beautiful experience. Would u believe - they even installed a short one at Kew Gardens last year in the summer. Have not read your blog for ages and doing all my catching up in one go - it's brill Kx |
| 3rd February 2009 Mum and Dad | Sky Tram and Canopy Walk - From: Snow or Heat? Hello from the igloo. The sky tram etc in Costa Rica is a baby compared to the Ozzie one. | 10th January 2009 Gary | Laptop - From: Six and Three 63 Dell are usually pretty good laptops. I have two Toshibas, one 17inch monitor, the other 13.3. The latter is nice and light and travelled our 3months & one week trip like a trooper. Looking forward to your future blogs. In response to one of your mates,; if you don't look at other blogs you will come up short on good travel information. |
| 10th January 2009 jane | He gets that from his father! - From: Six and Three 63 Well yes, Andy has inherited the trait of being able to strike up a conversation with anyone, from his father. He also had the ability to get into a conversation with just about anybody, and then completely talk them to death!! I've seen people glaze over on many an occasion!!! However, it made him a very popular person, as it has Andy. Hope you are both ok. Sorry haven't been in touch this week but am getting back into my routine of work at work and then work at home!!! Whilst now also having to fit in a visit to Mary in the afternoon - which isn't a chore at all really, it's great to be able to see her every day, something I haven't done for 22 years. For all the bloggers who know about Mom's move - she's fine and has settled really well now she has got to know the staff and got into the routine there. Anyway am missing both of you loads, especially as I haven't spoken to you all week. Kids both send their love to you, they are fine - challenging, as usual but better now they are back at school! Take care and have fun Jane xxxxxxx |
| 8th January 2009 kaz | Pushbikes - From: In the Pink Pushbikes with a rack on for surfers - now thats cool! I remember seeing a guy with a park bench on a push bike in Vietnam! We cycled back from a friends house on New Years Eve - successful until I got into the driveway and fell off - a relaxed fall (now I wonder why that was port cider wine - but no champers!) and no injuries! | 4th January 2009 faye | now i understand... - From: Coffs & Sneezes HI! After reading your blog i now see what my naughty dog actually got up to! :-) I haven't used the hose pipe on her but rather I put the sprinklers on which she loves to play with. That is probably why she was a bit taken aback with the hose. :-) I looks like she had a great time! We found the ball-under the couch where they all end up. I will let you know the dates that we will be going away and will send you a ref this week! hope you are having a great time! Faye |
| 2nd January 2009 kangaroojack | Pankogate - From: Pankogate Morning Matron, I honestly can't remember treading on Panko, but I can remember kicking him, by accident of course. He was probably going to die anyway. I can't see how my intervention accelertated the situation. When we were writing the Pankogate blog, we were hysterical with laughter though. Thats not right.!!! |
| 2nd January 2009 matron | THE PANKO INCIDENT!!! - From: Pankogate Hi Guys! What you forgot to mention was the fact that Andy TROD on poor Panko and 2 weeks later he sadly expired !! |
| 31st December 2008 kangaroojack | Re: Great Blog - From: Pankogate Hi Gary, We are both looking forward to getting back on the move. We just needed to get christmas and new year out of the way, get a little bit of planning done. The first part that we have done was a good test for all of our camping equipment, truck, tent etc. Coming back to the Sunshine Coast meant we could sort out a few teething problems then get our journey well underway. Glad you are enjoying the blog, we are enjoying writing it and taking the pictures. Happy New Year. Caroline |
| 29th December 2008 Gary | Great Blog - From: Pankogate Love the blog. Can't wait till you are on the move and seeing (and reporting on) all the new, exciting places that abound in Australia. Will keep an eye out for your updates. |
| 21st December 2008 kangaroojack | Relaxed - From: It could only happen to Caroline I didn't look so relaxed when the water was gushing out of the tap!! We both feel well, relaxed and enjoying Australia. It is very different and feels weird that it is christmas. The house that we are now staying in has a christmas tree which is nice. Will be around on skype over chistmas. C xx |
| 20th December 2008 Mum and Dad | Beautiful - From: It could only happen to Caroline Caroline you look beautiful, relaxed and very happy. We can see that Andy too looks relaxed, brown and happy, we won't say beautiful, lol. We have some of the blue flowers in our garden which are called Agapanthus. How lovely to see them growing in the wild. The photos of the animals and birds are great.....keep them coming. Love Mum and Dad x |
| 10th December 2008 Kaz | Sand - From: Back in the Saddle We drove in the Sahara Desert in an ordinary car and it was really difficult on the sand - in the end we let a guy who we had picked up as a hitch hiker drive the car as it was safer! We also got stuck in a bad sand storm which was a bit hairy. At least you have got a good vehicle and I guess it is just getting used to it. Lots of fun though. Very pleased to be able to read your blog as it evokes different travel memories of my own - however - stuck at work waiting for Simon as his car got stuck in the garage - some electrical fault and am waiting for him to try and get another car - I can't walk today easily as tripped over this morning and think I may have broken my toe - see not just you Caroline who is accident prone. Take care Love Karenx |
| 3rd December 2008 Keeley | Hello campers! - From: Zoo's and Cruise (No, not Tom Cruise) Hey great news about the zoo jobs - well done you! it will amazing to spend some time there with or without all the animals and I am sure you will both fit in!! Weather and BBQ'ing seem to be strong on the agenda then! Not jealous much! News from home feels all very dull in comparison. No BBQ's for sure, unless you want nose icicles for company! It's 'effing proper cold. We are quieting down at work now in the wind down for Christmas, although I haven't bought any cards and hardly any pressies - rubbish. I have two days off on Monday & Tuesday which will be lovely so I am hoping to get some shopping done then. Had Denzil's parents down this weekend and we ended up in John Lewis as his Mum wanted to get some gifts, then went to the Farmers market in Winchester on Sunday - and yes you've guessed it - in the pooring rain. Although they have got the German market and ice rink there again which is lovely. We had Monday off and went to Bicester Retail Outlet with the intention of buying lots of Xmas presents and all we bought was a suit and shirt for Denz and I bought a book!! Hmmmmm not good. Oh I did get my girls secret santa though! I am not sure if I mentioned it, but I have been asked to join the committe of a charity called Fairbridge. They are a national charity who help disadvantaged adults between 13-25 years and there is a breakfast club meeting on Friday where I am hoping to find out more about the charity - something to look forward to getting involved with anyway. Hope you manage to keep up with Corrie - shouldn't you be watching neighbours anyway? Until next time my lovelies xxxxxx |

| 3rd December 2008 Keeley | Blogtastic! - From: End of Second Week Read someone elses blog? You must be kidding - a) it wouldn't be interesting as I don't give a wombat what they are up to, and b) when would I have time - your's take up my life!! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love them to bits and the bit about shooing the cockroach made me laugh a great deal, but . . . . . get real - me thinks you've 'ad too much sunshine!xxxxxx Seriously though, fabulous stories guys- keep them up! |
| 3rd December 2008 Jane | by the way......... - From: Zoo's and Cruise (No, not Tom Cruise) I went to see Burn AFter Reading last night - I know you said you'd seen it - what an odd but good film. However, my illusions about George Clooney are on the wane - he definitely looked a bit ropey! |
| 3rd December 2008 Jane | Skype is fab - From: Zoo's and Cruise (No, not Tom Cruise) Hi both - It was great to talk to you today and I am so impressed because the timer said over 10 minutes and it cost 24p - marvellous. Have been to Asda and forgotton the bloody marmite - AGAIN- will hopefully get to post before Friday as it's the deadline. As I said all is well here and no significant news to report - we are just eagerly awaiting Mary's arrival on the 15th and I for one will not miss that M1/M6/M42 drive - 5 minutes to Hatfield will suit me just fine. Kids keep sending lots of love, they were so impressed with the moon/venus/jupiter that I showed them and even more impressed that you saw it smiling and we saw it frowning - I think that's definitely something to do with our respective weather conditions quite honestly. Be very thankful you're not here cuz it's freezing - however, on an up note that means no smelly rugby kit to wash tonight - hurrah Anyway take care and I will try and skype over the weekend. Big kiss to both of you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
| 30th November 2008 kangaroojack | Envy - From: Bushboys and Girls (3 Weeks) Hi Gary and Linda, thank you for your comment and interest in our blog. I have just had a quick look at your blog and when I have a little more time I shall read it with interest. We are very lucky to be able to have a year off work to follow this dream of ours and are savouring every moment. It will get tougher out on the open road at times, you will know what it is like. Andy and I have toured Canada for several weeks at a time in a camper and we loved every minute of that. This trip has taken a long time to organise and cannot quite believe that we are now here to finally experience it. Now we are over the jet lag, we have kitted ourselves out we are ready to hit the road. I am sure that with such a vast country there will still be places that we miss, but then they are there for the next time. All the very best Caroline (& Andy) |
| 30th November 2008 kangaroojack | From Wall E - From: Wall E goes to Noosa Hi "The Blackwoods" we hope you are all well, and the peace and tranquillity in Conway close is on an even keel. We are so glad you are enjoying the Blog, It is fun, but just takes up so much time, and having to find internet access every time you want to publish is mind bending. | 28th November 2008 Gary | I am somewhat envious - From: Bushboys and Girls (3 Weeks) Although we have just come back from 3 hectic months in Australia, I am jealous of your forthcoming adventure. We will be following it with a great deal of pleasure. Our blog is at http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/ThePass/, in case you might be the slighted interested. We travelled too far, missed to many sites and still saw a whole lot of a vast country. ENJOY |
| 28th November 2008 Kaz | Wanderlust - From: Pacific Paddling, & Warm Rain Hey I think you two should have secured a contract with the BBC for a travel show - it is so interesting reading this every day and also a great record for you to look back on - I forget some of the things I have done on just a 3 week trip! You ought to write something up for the Wanderlust magazine. Andy your mum looks quite well in the photo which must be so reassuring for you and lovely that she can move nearer to her grandchildren. My mum still looks pretty bad and moans non stop no matter what we do to help. The house sitting sounds an excellent idea and gives you a nice base for Xmas. Is that voluntary work at the Zoo? Might drag myself off on a cold wet day to Gunwharf to see the Bond film and a bit of Xmas shopping - maybe find a bar with some live music tonight. Have fun and hope you enjoy the camping - brilliant being nomadic and such an adventure for you both. I remember Chrissie liking Fraser Island. Love Kxx |

| 25th November 2008 Steve | Snake - From: Glasshouses and Swags Snake looks like a Taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus) not the dodgy kind or a YELLOW-FACED WHIP SNAKE (Demansia psammmophis) not dangerous but may be painful :-( |

| 21st November 2008 Mum & Dad | Don't turn your back to the water!!!!! - From: The Crocodile Hunter I switched on our computer and clicked on skype. I could not believe that I could see Caroline.....AND SHE WAS MOVING!!! I screamed to Caroline's Dad...I can see Caroline and she is moving. This is the first time for us on skype and it was amazing, just like Caroline and Andy were in our sitting room. We were so excited and had a great chat with them both. They are no longer out of our reach. What a marvellous invention!! |
| 19th November 2008 Keeley | I'm back! - From: Day 11 - The Pea - shop or starve Hello you two. Well I am back on line and my computer has now been fixed. Only the back light for the screen so nothing too major - just bloody inconvenient - I felt totally out of touch with the world! Well actually just Facebook! Anyway I have just read all your blogs in succession and I have to say it sounds so amazing! From ear candles, driving licenses and The Pea, it seems like your adventure has properly begun at long last! I would love to say I am sorry about the weather, but I just can't bring myself to say it! It's effing freezin' here and everyone is starting to prepare for Christmas. I have got loads of shopping to do and so little time. You know how it is. Denzil says thanks for the tank blog too - it was lost on me! I had a fab night out on Friday, as we had the first Christmas do of the season - all the evidence is on FB!! We started off in NV and moved on to Oceana - class!! We have the girls do this Friday and it definitely won't be the same without you. We are all hoping Babs can Skype you in . . . . that would be marvellous. Works is the same old, the Avenue is the same old, but I do have a glass of wine in my hand now as its 8.10 (in the evening of course!!). Talking of wine your blogs seem to revolve around food, Starbucks and G&T's - excellent news! That's what we like to see. That storm looked amazing - even though it caused so much damage. I was looking at it on the BBC website. Anyway, I am about to have tea, but will send more news soon. Loving the blogs - keep them up campers! love and hugs to you both xxxxxxxxxx |
| 18th November 2008 Slybird | Good Day Mate through a shrimp on the barbie! - From: Power Cut Hi Caro & Andy, You both sound very well. I see that you may have taken a little of the english weather with you! I suppose I am not completely jealous now. The girls are meeting up on Friday at Karen's, hope we can get in contact with you. It will feel strange without you being there. Our house renovation is coming along, might even be able to offer you a spare room for a few nights if you come back to visit (if it's ready by then)! Missing you and thank you for my lovely card, made me cry and I couldn't read it out loud xxxxx |
| 17th November 2008 GLYN BLACKWOOD | - From: Power Cut Yo travellers, Alright for some you have lovely hot weather, down on the beach checking out the talent [Andy?] probably drinking a star bucks just chilling out and we are looking out of the window to rain and wind, with jumpers on trying not to turn the heating on, FANTASTIC. Good news on finding a place to stay, you can always count on the wife finding a place, does it come with any kangaroos? Anyway got to go now some of us have to go to work now[1800hrs] and you are just having your breakfast. from Glyn and Katie One day an english bloke was driving around the backblocks of sidney one day, when he saw a little girl in the paddock next to him. With the little girl was a gigantic bull, that was preparing to gore the little girl. The pom [an englishman] took action. He slammed on the brakes of his car, jumped the barbed wire fence, grabbed the bull by it's horns, flipped it over and broke its back. An aussie reporter saw the whole thing, and after the bull was dead [ not being aware that the guy the guy was english] he rushed over to congratulate him. that was absolutly bloody fantastic mate! it'll make front page news, just give me your details, so the pom gives him his details. A day later he buys the newspaper and looks at the headline. It reads POMMY B*****D KILLS CHILDS PET!. |

| 13th November 2008 Frenchbird | latest updates - From: Day 4/5 Brisbane Hi you two I loved reading your blog! I have just returned from France with Elvyn where we spent a week with my parents... as you may recall we were travelling the same day 7 Nov but certainly in total different directions of the world! I love my parents to bits but God it is hard to live with them in their house for the whole of that time .... bless them. I was very pleased to come back to my surroundings my husband and my house today! Brett has been lovely and had a cleaner to come and do the housework yesterday so I have not got to worry about it this week which is just as well as I have been unwell since last weekend with a cold and a terrible cough! Dont know where I caught it all from but bloody hell it is not pleasant. Elvyn returns to pre-school tomorrow so I actually have most of the day to myself, bliss... Whilst you are busy sorting out driving licences and mobile phones I am now going to focus on Xmas shopping... what a different outlook hey? Cant wait to read your next update, it is soooooo cool. Caro, next Friday as you may remember it is our girls night at Karens. And as my dear husband has been an angel and has bought me a brand new sparkling laptop with webcam incorporated we can skype!!! Do you think you will be able to connect at some point in our evening? Love to both Babs, Brett and Elvyn xxxx |

| 12th November 2008 Kaz | Me cold as ice U2 hot and sweaty! - From: Day 3 - Little India HI u2, how gr8 to read your news - sickening though - the thought of being humid...much better than freezing to death here, although the sun is shining wonderfully at the mo. Be careful on the ear candling front - don't do it too often - we are currently doing a systematic review of ear wax removal clinical studies and there have been ear injuries with this procedure in some patients. Simon has a friend who has moved out to Singapore this year so he may be a useful stopping point for us to stay with some time! Girls night soon and we will be thinking of you Caroline! Enjoy Brisbane! Lots of love to u both & gr8 travels - it is the people u meet along the way which makes it fun too. Look forward to the next blog update. Karenxx |
