Asia » Hong Kong February 23rd 2013

We spent three nights in Hong Kong and a full day on Macau Island. Staying at Mong Kong of Kowloon seems to be much more vivid than staying at Tsim Sha Tsui area. Our choise of the hotel is really a succes paying 680 HK $ ( including breakfast). We had been provided five star hotel facilities with breakfast but quite small room. Transportation in HK is perfect. Not a single traffic jam and not a wait more than two minutes for metro. Octobus card may be the best solution for avoiding ticketing. You can no more see the influence of UK. Hong Kong is completely Chinese. Almost everybody is busy with their cellphone-Ipads everywhere. You can not get eye contact to request any help. Hong Kong is the most expensive country in the region. We ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Cebu February 20th 2013

All flights land in Mactan Island in Cebu. Before landing the captain ordered to turn off the lights to see the city in light harmony. We stayed at Diplomat Hotel in every visit, cheap, fully satisfying and very central. Ayala Mall is the best shopping and entertainment point although it is quite far. We generally used jeepneys which is the main local transport. Taxis are also very cheap. On arrival from Bantayan Island we made a day trip to Mactan+Olanga Islands . On the Bohol side of Olanga Island there are few floating restaurants ( actually they are not floating, built huts on the sea, one or two hundred meters away from the land). They serve extremely expensive sea food. We didn’t eat anything and return to Lapu Lapu town. Then we had a nice lunch at ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Cebu » Moalboal February 16th 2013

Another magnificient tourist destination is Moal Boal, specially for divers. Although we are only snorkelling we enjoyed the town at best. There is a turtle wall just about 50 to 100 meters on the beach where one can dive in the town and snorkel easily. Delicious sea food , fun in the bars and calm evenings. We enjoyed dinners at Silver Ray, Chili Bar , B&B’s and Lantaw reastaurants. Hotels on the beach are generally for the divers and relatively expensive. We stayed at the other side of the road where we paid around 1300 PhP / night w/o breakfast. Best breakfast is at Lantaw , it is divers place. We attended the party on Valentines day on a bar. Some live music and entertainments. One day we went to White Beach by tricycle and spent few ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Cebu » Bantayan February 11th 2013

We made Bantayan from Malapascua Island in around 4 hours by boat+bus+ferry, 400 PhP / each although ferry ticket cost 170 pesos, as seniors we paid 120 instead, but only when we were leaving the island. There is also 20% discount on every transport if you are senior over 60. A very beautiful island and very sincere people. We stayed at Marlyns Beach Resort which may be the best for budget, 1200 PhP including breakfast for two. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The islands economy best for chickens 1,400,000 and produces 1 million eggs/ day. Tourism has just started and in the first decade I think will hit the peak. We visited Virgin Island 1 hour sail by the resort’s boat with a German family. We had bought our fish, vegetables and fruits before ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Malapascua Island February 6th 2013

Four hours of bus ride from Cebu City to Maya and another hour to reach to the island by boat. We spent the first night at Dano Resort (1200 PHP with breakfast). Then moved to Cocobana Resort which may be beter centralized ( 1100 PHP w/o breakfast but free wi-fi in common areas). Both resorts are on the Bounty Beach. There is no car and Atm on the Island. We ate at different restaurants but our favourate is Ging Ging’s Rest. It is hard to find fresh chiken or seafood on the island. What people eat is frozen origin.Besides food most of the vegetables and fruits come from the main island CEBU. Last day we took a snorkelling trip around the island, but it was not very succesful because of the wheather. The most important activity ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Phuket April 1st 2012

In our third visit to this lovely town, we again preferred to stay at The Little Mermaid Hotel, Karon Beach. This time instead of Swedish, Russians were dominating the Island. We took two daily tours, one to James Bond Island, the other to Similans Marine National Park.. The latter is a natural paradise. One night we enjoyed at Bangla Road on Patong Beach and one night we made an escape to bar life at Karon Beach. We spent a week on Phuket Island generally swimming and resting on the beach. Food was O.K. specially the Red Onion on Karon was perfect for sea food and cheap prices. We missed you all.... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Java » Yogyakarta March 25th 2012

Jogjakarta or Yogjakarta or Jogyakarta or Yogyakarta or Jogja or Yogja or Jogya or Yogya are meaning the same city on Jawa Island. A pretty and crowded city. Our losmen (=small hotel) was very centrally situated. We reached Jogya interests by tricycles easily; Sultan’s Palace, Bird Market, University and famous Malioboro Street for shopping. One day we took a Borobudur and Prambanan Tour. Borobudur said to be the largest Budha Temple and Prambanan the tallest Hindu Temple and both are world Herritage. We enjoyed the city in all aspects, specially massages we took in Inna Garuda Hotel and other places. On 24th March we took a night train to Jakarta to fly to Phuket. Now we are spending impressive days in Phuket . Stay Best.... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Kuta March 21st 2012

Landing Bali we took a taxi to Sorga Hotel where we stayed before two times in Kuta. We got together with our friends from Cesme at dinner in Poppies. An exellent restoran since 70’s. The following days we made Sanur and Tanah Lot Temple visits. We had a nice dinner again with friends at Jimbaran on the sands with the company of a music group. The last day we went to Ubud, generally for shopping. Gunay bought four Uluwatu shirts and put a hole to our budget. On 21st March early in the morning (before the Absolute Silence Day) we flew to Yogyakarta. Best wishes to all. PS: Absolute Silence day: Only in Bali from 6 AM 23rd March until 6 AM 24th March there is no traffic, no electricity, no TV. People stay with their ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Sulawesi » Togean Islands March 16th 2012

On arriving Ampana we spent the night at Oasis Hotel and took the ferry the next morning to Wakai (main pier on Togeans). Actually instead of unboarding the ship we paid few rupies more and continued to Malenge Island, two hours sail. We enjoyed the island at Lestari Resort , 3 nights. The food was excellent, swimming perfect and we easily visited sea- gipsy village. Our next stop for another 3 nights was Black Marlyn Resort on Kadidiri Island. That place was also very panaromic but many mosquitos and management is thinking only money. Food is very basic. The trip we took with two German ladies was expensive but worth the value. We snokelled at reef # 5 , in another open sea area, Bolilanga Island and we had lunch at Fatillah Cottages on a small ... read more
