Ok it is past midnight already, and I am tired. Therefore I will make this as brief as possible. This morning I hit the road with my route planned where the curvy roads are at. The roads were fantastic today! There was a great stretch of road that had lots of long sweepers and tight turns and everything in between. I happened to run into a local guy at a gas station and chatted with him for a little while. He told me that his son just purchased a sportbike, and he just started college. We were discussing where all the [View Full Entry]

Before I get to the good stuff we need to have a short lesson in road etiquette, especially pertaining to motorcycles. When someone approaches you from the rear going significantly faster than you, you should let them pass when you get the chance. I’m not talking about excessive speeding, but only when you are going slower than the posted speed limit. This is usually only true when the car being followed has nobody else in front of them. If you are following another vehicle, than there is really no need to let the person pass you because they will just get [View Full Entry]

This morning has been wonderful so far. I got up and had breakfast with Aaron before he left for school. And Whitney was up just in time to see me get on the road too. I think they got a significant amount of rain last night, so hopefully it washed off some of the bugs that are on the front of my bike. I don’t even try to keep the bike looking clean and shiny, especially with frequent rain riding and storms at night. I found out I was their first visitor to their place since their wedding. I found a [View Full Entry]

I have to say it is nice to be on the road again. When I am staying with my friends for more than a day or 2, sometimes it feels like I am not doing anything productive. I don’t really enjoy leaving my friends, but after I leave it feels like I am experiencing life in a whole new way. There is just something about being on the bike and soaking up my surroundings. I had some odd experiences throughout my day so far. I rode on the Blue Ridge Parkway for about 60 miles, and what a beautiful area! The [View Full Entry]

Last night Kayla and I palyed Wii right before I went to bed. I have to say that I wasn’t too thrilled for video games before we started, but it was very cool! That was my first experience with the Wii, and the player-controller interaction is one of the coolest video game experiences I have ever had. We played some cow-racing, ping-pong, and tennis. Good times. Rach and I went out or breakfast this morning, followed by some cruising around town on the bike. I have been trying to track down some more raingear, since I am tired of riding in [View Full Entry]

This morning Kayla and I went out to breakfast at the local bagel place in town. Not too bad I might add. We paid a visit to the local Post Office to send out some goods. Dad, you can rest assured that we are still contributing to your retirement check! Afterward we went to the bank where Kayla works, and I was able to use their internet connection to catch up on a few things. One thing I forgot to mention was that on the way driving down to Harrisonburg, the undesirable happened again….I got rained on for about 40 miles [View Full Entry]

The first night I arrived in Harrisonburg we had a BBQ at Rachel’s house. It was a Hesston alumni gathering including Jill Sweirs, Ben Baker, Chad Ahlstrum, Katie Ahlstrum, Kayla, Rachel, Aaron Nussbaum, and myself. It was a good time seeing everyone again, but toward the end of the night I was really fighting just to stay awake. Yesterday we went to Aaron Leichty’s wedding in PA, and it was great to see him again! I talked to him while I was there, and he invited me to spend a night with them on my way through. I believe that is [View Full Entry]

Yesterday I went for a motorcycle ride on some of the local roads. This is probably one of the nicest areas I have seen since I left home. The scenery is green and lush, and the terrain is rolling hills. But from what I hear the local people are not very nice. I drove through a lot of farm land, and even saw a few Amish horse and buggies. I had never seen one in action, so that was cool. The one thing that stands out to me, and I didn’t have my camera with me to capture this humorous sight, [View Full Entry]

Let’s see, what has happened the last few days… I think Aug 10 and 11 were two of the most miserable riding days yet. I got rained on pretty good both days, and I knew from the start of my trip that my gloves and boots are not waterproof. And since both are leather, they soak up the water pretty well. I didn’t really want to pack another set of waterproof gloves and boots since they take up quite a bit of room, so basically I just have to deal with it as it comes. On Aug 10 I stopped for [View Full Entry]

Not too much has happened since yesterday, just some minor things. I was cruising through a tiny town on the way to Albany and I passed another sportbike going the other way. It was a gixxer, but maybe I am the only one that matters to. Anyway, we exchange our friendly wave as usual and I continue on my way. I am out cruising in the country a few miles later, doing about 60mph as usual, and enjoying the scenery. All of a sudden I hear a vehicle very close to my left side, and I am cruising on the right [View Full Entry]
