It has been an indescribable six months since we last stepped foot in our homes. We have seen and done so much, it is immeasurable. As we walked out of terminal 3 in Pearson airport, a wave of familiarity rushed towards us. After 175 days abroad, we are finally home. And we couldn't be happier. Thanks to everyone who posted their comments and messages and took their time out to read our blog. It was fantastic knowing there were people out there intrested in our travels. It has been one hell of a long, bumpy ride. But we couldn't have asked for anything better. Take care, and for the last time: Love from home, Chris and Evan... read more

As a Christmas gift for Evan and myself. Our lovely mothers rented out an apartment flat for a week in the East side of Rome. We beat the mothers there and explored the flat. A beautiful apartment with two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, dining area, sitting area and a stunning terrace. It was beautiful. Our mothers arrived shortly after, seeing them was both a very exciting yet incredibly odd feeling. It had bee, after all, almost 6 months. After a round of hugs and touring the place we had a small bite to eat at a nearby cafe. We then went out for a grocery shop, just around the corner. We bought lots of 30 cent beers, 1 € bottles of wine, massive loafs of bread, hunks of cheese, salami, proschiutto, olives, pasta, and much more. ... read more

I had 30 euros in my pocket and Chris had 10, we we're flat broke and there was no way faking it. Neither of us had any money in our accounts to save us and we were in Mont-Pellier, France with no idea of what to do next. Suddenly, a thought drifted through our heads; Cydney and Molly Langill are staying in Florence, and they just might let us stay with them. We sent the facebook message, and tried to emphasize the words "no money" as strongly as possible. It did the trick. In no time, we had received a reply invitation to stay with them for as long as we needed in Cydney's student apartment. It was like reading poetry. Within the next two hours we were on a twelve hour night train bound for ... read more

April 4th 2008

Ever since India, where we cursed every layer we wore because of the boiling heat, we've only been confronted with the cold. From Germany's blizzards to Italy and France's chilly wind...it's just been too much. We made a mutual agreement to go someplace where we could sit in the sand and take a dip in the ocean. We were in Barcelona, where a warmth was beginning to submerge, but it wasn't quite hot enough for us. We looked at our map of Europe and it was; Alicante. Right down in the south of spain, just oozing with warmth 365 days a year. We looked at one another and it was agreed. Alicante would our next stop. It was a five hour train ride from Barcelona. We took the 10am and watched "Hairspray" in Spanish on the ... read more

We had wanted to visit Spain for awhile, and when we got in touch with my cousin, Keegan, who was in Barcelona, we decided to meet up for a few days. Keegan, who is our age, has also been travelling for some time around Europe and we agreed that it would be nice to see a familiar face and relax for a few days. The train ride from Venice to Barcelona was long and we stopped in Montpellier for a few hours on the way. We were supposed to meet Keegan in the train terminal when we got in, but we had to jump on a different train at the last minute due to stike issues. We landed at a different station, feeling horrible because we knew Keegan was waiting at the other one for us ... read more

It was 9am when we rolled into´Venezia´train station. We had taken a night train from Paris and our plan was to spend a day exploring Venice and take another train out that night. After an hour of pure hassle and cues, we had purchased our tickets for our upcoming train and dumped our bags in a locker. We were off to see the sinking city. As soon as you step foot out of the train station, the beauty of this old city hits you, straight in the face. You´re left standing awkwardly gazing out at the picturesque river and the most romantic buildings you´ve ever seen. As well, there´s a massive poster of actress Kate Bosworth in a Calvin Klein ad. Not too bad. We walked across a huge marble bridge and towards the city centre. ... read more

So obviously the perfect place for us. We arrived late and, not wanting to pay for a hostel, decided to sleep in the train station. Crashing in the station is not allowed, but lucky enough for us, we were never found. We slept right through to 7:30am when we awoke, totally confused and lost, with hundreds of people rushing past, most of them lingering for a second or two at the sight of us. Waking up with so much commotion about, is not the greatest way to greet the new day. Still feeling out of it, we then had to take the metro to the Lyon station to book a ticket to Venice. The first thing we did was buy overnight tickets to Venice, hoping to save money by not checking into a hostel. But we ... read more

We were on the tram, on our way to our hostel, only two minutes after stepping foot in the Netherlands most popular destination. The bicycles, the buildings, the cobblestone and canals...aaah, this is Amsterdam. We walked the main street and crossed over one of the many beautifully built bridges towards the "StayOK Youth Hostel". After making ourselves comfortable in our 20 bed dorm rooms, we headed out into the street to gfind the essence of life in Amsterdam. We spent 4 days in the land where drugs, sex and liquor run the streets and everyone you meet seems to be ON something. We rode bicycles thorugh the many canals running alongside and throughout the city. With everything so close, we were able to see so much of this dutch landmark. We felt we'd been living there ... read more

Finally, The Europe leg of our journey has arrived. And it couldn't have come at a better time, the harsh living conditions of India were starting to get to us. We landed in Frankfurt, after flying back to Bangkok, staying the night in the airport, then flying to Singapore, and then finally to Germany. We spent the night but agreed to get out as soon as possible because we would be coming back in May, so the next morning we took off for a small town named Bergish Gladbach, located just outside of Cologne. There we would stay with family friends; Lindsey and Jana Hesse. Our first night, we enjoyed a home cooked pasta dinner with cheese, beer, wine and bread... exactly what we had been dreaming about for weeks. The rest of the night was ... read more

It was an 18 hour train ride from Kesinga to Kolkata. A trip that resulted in my ipod being stolen from my sleeping bag, as I slept in it, and a lady boy beggar punching me in the face and screaming what sounded much too much like a Jihad curse. It was an experience, i'll say that. One Chris and I will not forget. Our first day in Kolkata began very early when we rolled in around 8am and immediately began a bidding war with taxi drivers to take us to a guesthouse. We found one reasonably priced taxi and hopped in. The ride from the train station to the guesthouse, i will always remember. First, the taxis in Kolkata are beautiful. They have the look of the old 50's cars (probably because that's when they ... read more
