Describing Bangkok is something that most people would find very difficult, only because they would find themselves rambling on for hours trying to involve every last little detail, and, in the end, getting lost somewhere along the way. It is easy to see why Thailand is quickly becoming one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations, and why Bangkok is such a common starting point. Stepping out of our taxi onto Khao San Road late on the night of the 30th, we soon found ourselves making many friends. Thousands of people roaming this street that runs no longer than 1km, and [View Full Entry]

"Batam, is a very holey city", we were told on arrival into Indonesia with our good friend Tony. "Every road is covered in holes! hahaha" Tony exclaimed right afterwards. We took the ferry from Singapore straight to Batam spur of the moment for a weekend getaway. We wanted a taste of third world country before Thailand, and before we knew it, we were right in the middle of it. Once we exited the Batam Harbourfront, culture shock hit us with a strong force. We drove through the streets towards Batam Centre with Tony to translate for our taxi driver. As we [View Full Entry]

According to the majority of Taxi Drivers in Singapore, the number one thing to do in the day as a tourist is head to the Zoo. As well, the number one thing to do as an evening program (if you happen to be 18 or over) is head to the big club, 'Ministry Of Sound'. We decided to take full advantage of our clean-slated schedules and do them both in one day. First off, the Zoo. The Elephant show was at 11:30am, this meant we had to be out of the house at 10:00am. We took the 165 all the Ang [View Full Entry]

"Warning, Death for Drug Traffickers Under Singapore Law"... that was the first thing we saw in Singapore. The second, following shortly after the first, were three very serious soldiers armed with automatic rifles, patrolling baggage claim. But Singapore, as many know, is not dangerous or corrupt in the least. It is, in fact, a beautiful, wealthy, clean, and densly populated city of Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, and "other". The "other" only accounts for approximately 2.4% of the population. We are currently staying with relatives of Evan, Rose and David (aunt and uncle), who live on Holland R [View Full Entry]

As we told you at the end of our last blog, our bus at the end of the Heaphy Track never showed up. Soo, without any other options, we went straight forth into hitch hiking towards our destination. Within minutes, we found Geoff and Coral. Two Kiwis with as much kindness and generosity in them than their craving for excitement and travel, (and believe me, they love to travel). Coral and Geoff told us that if we wanted to get to Nelson, (which is where we wanted to get to), than they would be heading there the following day; the only [View Full Entry]

Alright folks, i know we haven't written in quite some time but it's only because we were preparing the best blog yet. We've just finished the Heaphy Track in the South Islands of New Zealand and had the greatest experience in doing so. Here's a little info on the tramp for the eager learners out there: The Heaphy track is rated as one of the top ten great walks of new zealand. It covers 92km of the Kahurangi National Park. In order to get down to the start of the track, it took us 17 hours of bus rides and a [View Full Entry]

We made it! We're in New Zealand! On arrival we sat and waited in Auckland airport for our pickup. We'd made connections with a friend of a friend who lives in Auckland and was bringing us up to stay with their family up north. After only 45 minutes of waiting, we found her, Lorna Mascall. The drive took about four and a half hours and we didn't arrive until late after dark so you could imagine we were relieved once we got there. The night had begun and we had woken up at 6:00am that morning in order to make our [View Full Entry]

What a night! Sydney is famous for being one of the best cities to celebrate the New Year. The main attraction are the world famous fireworks shows that takes place in the harbour at 8,9, and midnight. The streets were packed with hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. The roads in the city were closed off to cars because there were so many people. Just a sea of heads cramming all the streets, it was amazing. We had never seen so many people before. We managed to push and shove our way to a pretty good spot [View Full Entry]

Our departure date from Australia is coming up fast, but our excitement for New Zealand is growing even faster. We've had to cherish the last few days we've spent here in the land downunder. The weather has been picture perfect which has given us the opportunity to do all the things we desired before taking off. Newport Beach on a beautiful day is like the opening day of wonderland. The masses gather between the flags and soak up all of the sun in the sky. Though we would like to say we fought against the norm and stood our ground, there [View Full Entry]

We haven't published a new blog recently due to our chaotic schedules and our lack of free time. Though, we have done some pretty interesting things in the past few days that we figured we'd let you guys in on. We're headed for New Zealand in less than a week so preparations for that have kept us quite busy as of lately. As well we have been painting for Rebeccah and Graham in order to save a little more spending money for the infamous Europe section of our trip. Christmas Eve Avo we went out on the magic puddin with Silas [View Full Entry]
