Howdy,
My name is Cliff, and I am from Canada. I've done a bit of travelling...from driving across Canada, driving through the Eastern US, and visiting the Southern Brazil and am now hopelessly addicted to seeing new places, meeting new people and learning new things.
So, I am about to leave for South America for another 6 months! Here's where you can find out where I've been, what I've seen, who I've met, and what I've learned...
Happy reading!!!

Howdy everyone! I am in Taganga right now, it is a small town outside of Santa Marta at the northern tips of Columbia. I figure I should do a short update, since I haven´t updated for a long time... well, a lot of things have happened, I would love to feed you on every single little one of them, but it would take me days to put it into writing. I promise though that at a later date I will do a detailed update..... as the Internet here is actually rather expensive. My rough itinerary is to head to Ecuador next after Columbia and then start my Amazon river travel to Brazil...then settle down for a bit in Brazil (I am really tired of dragging my 30 kg luggage everywhere I go...especially when I am looking

Well, for those of you who haven't heard of it, it is the Southern most CITY of the world. Technically, Puerto Williams is the southern most city...but I was told that its mostly just a Chilean naval base, hence is "discounted"?? Anyways, let me catch up with where I left you all last time. So I was in Bariloche when I posted the last blog and trying to upload some fotos, but it didn't happen until I got into Ushuaia a couple days ago actually. My impression of Bariloche was okay... I mean it is impressive to be in front of a very windy lake, and immediately across from the lake you see snowcapped mountains! Behind

Pretty much right after I posted the last blog, I was off to get ready for a little excursion to Vallagrande and then La Higuera, where the Ernesto "El Che" Guevara festival was being held. By 8 oclock on the morning of the 5th, I was heading towards the bus station with some new friends (Son, my Korean friend, Ken, my new Japanese friend, Nathan, my new American friend and Erika, my new Brazilian friend). We arrived at the bus station around 8:30, the bus was ALREADY full, our options were to either sit in the isle for 6 hours or wait for the next bus, or try to

Aaaaaah, I miss Brazil sooo much. I have met so many Brazilians ....but each time when I am trying to talk to them, I find myself tongue tied....since I am getting myself accostumed to speaking Spanish.. I find myself speaking a mix of both, they are just like...huh?? well, I still really prefer Portugese and love Brazil...anyways....... So basically, I left Potosi the day after the update, and arrived in Sucre yesterday and the same afternoon I took off for Santa Cruz. I have to say that I wasn´t really impressed with Potosi... nothing against it, the only thing unique about it is that it is the

So...since Cuzco I´ve pretty much been on the move everyday. Cuzco: It was pretty sad for me to leave the volunteer place on my last day, the kids made me feel like a superstar - all of them came to shake my hand, asked for my autograph, and danced goodbye dances with me..... needless to day, the volunteer program was great!!! I have made some great friends and as much as I hope that I´ve helped the kids, they´ve helped me also....to appreciate the hardship that they go through each day that people, for example, me, haven´t the slightest clue about... and to value the

I just wanted to post a short update for everyone to know that I am in La Paz right now, and met up with my Korean friends - it´s a pleasant surprise indeed. On my way here the scenery was great! I felt like I could almost touch the clouds (since La Paz is 4 km above sea level). In La Paz it is a lot colder than in Cusco, and Puno and Copacabana. What makes it more fun is that they don´t use heaters here...the good thing is I finally was able to shower with hotwater - when I was in Puno and Copacabana, the hostels claimed to have hot shower, but it was just lukewarm. Another

I am also very glad with the tour itself. I have to say I didn´t do the Inca trail, since it is fully booked until the end of October. So, instead, I did the 5 day-4 night Salkantay trail for just under $200 with my Korean friends. It was a steal, in comparion to what other agencies were charging ($300 - $400 US), and I have to say I think that I had seen twice as much at half the price!!What really made the trip was the fact that, for me personally, I had plenty of contact with the local Peruvians , I got to see them

We had Chicharróns, what it was was deep fried pork and some rice, with some potatoes...and man, did it feel like I was eating stones...the "inca stones" that is...just kidding. Anyways, let me just update a little about Nazca and my bus ride from Nazca to Cuzco.... So I was in Nazca, and I did the one thing that all tourists do.....that is to fly over the Nazca desert and watch the Nazca lines. The flight was pretty fun, I got the co-pilot seat, at times the pilot was flying the plane at an angle almost perpendicular to the ground, I felt a bit sick, and almost threw up, luckily the

I will begin my volunteer work tomorrow, so I am pretty excited. So far I am getting by just fine with my portunhol (portuguese and spanish combined) and some English... it´s fun trying to talk to people here in Spanish...I just can´t stop doing it! I just took a Spanish placement test, I was told that I am in the intermediate level...yet I have to ask people to repeat themselves when I talk to them, I guess that I will just have to give it sometime to get used to the language At any rate, here are some photos from Lima, Pisco and Ica Later I will update more about Nazca and my

I will do a quick and short update with you all.... and because of some hardware problems, the pictures will have to wait a little - hopefully when I get into Cusco tomorrow I can upload some pictures. My experience here in Peru has been wonderful so far!!! I have met some very hospitable and very helpful Peruvians. All the anxieties I had prior to boarding the plane turned out to be really nothing... I am doing well here so far, but I am really heart broken at the sights of the post-earthquake situation here in Pisco and Ica...I have seen houses without roofs, and kids running after buses
