Oceans and Seas » Atlantic April 5th 2017

It has been a very choppy ride since we left Bermuda and we woke up to no sunshine. Also, when we looked out from our balcony we see the Silversea Silver Spirit cruise liner is about level with us at a distance. Looks like they are having a hard time of it with the big waves. They are due to be at the Azores a day before us. Not sure they will make that. Due to the weather, everyone is inside, but there is plenty going on to keep everyone happy. George is still not feeling well so heads back to bed after breakfast. Doctors for him tomorrow if he is no better. Theresa headed out to the casino to play her tipping point game again. It has been interesting talking to some of the other ... read more

North America » Bermuda April 4th 2017

We had planned a whole day tour of Bermuda for today, but George is still unwell. We are getting a little concerned about this now. After a late breakfast, we headed out into the Dockyard area. This is all very touristic and not really our cup of tea although still quite a nice stroll for us. We did visit the glass factory and found that to be very interesting. The guy running the manufacturing side was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer all questions. It was very interesting watching him make many items just from a blob of melted glass. Would have liked to buy an item but the prices were really expensive. Back on the ship, we spent a couple of hours getting some unexpected sun before lunch. George then headed back to bed ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Atlantic » Sargasso Sea April 3rd 2017

George is still feeling poorly, but did make it to breakfast. He did not feel like sitting in posh, so we headed to the casino. We have just found a machine that is like the Tipping Point TV program on ITV. Within the coins on moving levels, it has rolled up notes and tokens for bottles of champagne as an incentive for you to keep playing. We spent $30 and it kept us quiet for nearly four hours. George headed back to bed so he can get some rest ready for our trip tomorrow and Theresa had lunch on the balcony and got some sun. As George is still not well, it was a light dinner only in the buffet for tonight. Hopefully he will be up to going out tomorrow.... read more

Oceans and Seas » Atlantic » Sargasso Sea April 2nd 2017

This morning, George woke up feeling very unwell. Over breakfast he got worse, so we decided the best place for him was back in bed. But not before we attended our second Cruise Critic meet and greet this morning. As it was such a large group, we met in Bliss this time and there must have been about 120 people attending. Of the two meet and greets we attended we both agreed the first was the best. We had brought our gift with us too for the gift exchange, but when we enquired, were told rather abruptly that it was not happening as no one wanted to organise it. We gave the gift to the lady who we met on the plane from London a few weeks ago instead. The event seemed to be purely around ... read more

Norwegian had a promotion going when we booked this next section of the cruise. As well as a really good price, they gave us the Ultimate Beverage Package and six nights of Speciality Dining completely free. We also have a balcony room for the first time for this segment. The Ultimate Beverage Package would have cost us about £850 to buy for the two weeks. We would not normally buy the beverage package, instead opting for the Soda package which would have cost us about £160. Either way it is a very good saving. The Speciality Dining would have cost us £190 if we had purchased it. The only negative point was paying for the Internet instead. As we are changing cabins, we are down at customer services desk for 7.00am this morning to get our ... read more

Great Stirrup Cay is a private island in the Bahamas exclusively owned and run by Norwegian Cruise Lines and used solely by their customers. NCL had done a large amount of renovation to the island, but then it was recently hit badly by a hurricane and most of the renovations destroyed. In the last six months, NCL have worked very hard to rebuild the facilities, but you can see it is still a notable work in progress. There was enough there for us though. It was a very pleasant place to visit. We were on the third tender out to the island from the ship and there were still not too many people there. We had a chance to have a relaxed swim, although the water was too cold to stay in too long. We saw ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Caribbean March 30th 2017

Today is the second sea day of this 7 day cruise, so time for some relaxation. First we had to attend the back to back meeting. This was very informative with essential guidelines to re-enter USA to clear customs and immigration prior to re-boarding for our Transatlantic journey home to Barcelona Spain. During our time on this cruise, we have met many people that said they were travelling onto Barcelona, but a lot of them seem to be missing from this meeting. Maybe when you have done one before it is easier, but this is our first back to back so we are still learning. The two presenters did a good job of explaining the procedure for Saturday morning and were happy to answer any additional questions. It turns out we will be able to get ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Jamaica March 29th 2017

In 2014, we spent a week in Jamaica staying with locals but that was on the other side of the island. Although Theresa has been to Ocho Rios before, this will be George´s first visit. After seeing so many ships in port yesterday, we are unsure of taxi availability for today, so have booked a ship tour to the nearby Dunns River Falls. The ride to the falls was short, but our friendly bus driver pointed out all the local landmarks, and also explained how it works inside the falls. We are fascinated by the local Creole language. We like the Jamaican people. We are so glad we bought the water shoes in Florida. They are charging $10 a pair at the falls. We paid that for both our pairs. Our initial intention was to change ... read more

We were in Grand Cayman in 2014, so are happy this time to do our own thing, rather than doing something organised by the ship. Grand Cayman has strong connections with Britain / UK. There are six big cruise ships in dock today and ours is the last to arrive. It is 11.00am by the time we get off the boat. We head off to the public bus station and are soon on our way to a little village we have heard about called Hell. Your eyes are not misleading you. This village had grown up around a small area of strange looking volcanic rock looking very much like a lunar landscape. They have a quaint village post office that can post mail with a Hell post stamp, and can also do passport stamps, which we ... read more

North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Cozumel March 27th 2017

We nearly always decide to get off the ship at all ports. Our view is it would be to travel so far to bizarrely just decide to stay on board. Some cruisers do not agree with our principals. We were in Cozumel in 2014, so are happy this time to do our own thing, rather than doing something organised by the ship. Our first task was to get a stamp in the passports. We found the immigration office really easily, but there was a big note on the door that they do not do passport stamps. Onto the next item which was to get a photo of George with a local policeman at the local police station. Not sure if we walked straight past it, but we could not find it where it was showing on ... read more
