As we were not expecting to be in Antigua and Barbuda today, we had nothing planned at all. We did get off the ship though and had a really nice wander around the town. This was the first time off the ship for 6 days and it was nice to be on firm ground again. The pavements and roads in Antigua are in a terrible state which really surprised us as many cruise ships go there. Theresa took a little tumble, but no damage thankfully. We heard of a few people that had tumbled and hurt themselves badly. We are keeping an eye on the weather in St Thomas as we really do not want to miss that port. This is because St Thomas is our official entry point into America where your entry documents are ... read more

Another time change last night, so our body clocks are all over the place. We were up and in the breakfast room early for 7.30am this morning. We saw Paul and Robin the Facebook page Admins that we met yesterday and they asked if we would join their table for breakfast. We felt special. Breakfast this morning took two and a half hours as we kept meeting people we know or when new people come and sat at our table once our Facebook friends had left. We have nothing to hurry for though, as it is raining again outside. There is always a risk of this on a Transatlantic particularly at this time of year. It is winter after all. Looking through the Norwegian Epic daily yesterday, we spotted the cake making competition. This is always ... read more

We have another time change last night and only one more before we reach St Maarten. Our plan today was to spend it sun bathing. We should know never to make plans as it was overcast. At breakfast, we met quite a few people from the Facebook page as well as the page admins. It was lovely to sit and have a proper chat with them. (Paul and Robin) We were advised by another guest that if we had any constructive comments, it was a good idea to inform Nelson the Hotel Manager. They have slips for doing this in reception to address some minor problems on board. This was to turn into a pile of US dollars for us. As we left them, we went to walk along the deck to go down to the ... read more

From the daily for today, we note that there is a port presentation today, but it is at 11.00 which we cannot make. They will give out the port booklets with the free gift vouchers for the disabled lady. On our way to breakfast, we asked at guest services if we would be able to get a copy of the booklet. They advised that we would need to talk to Jake who was leading on that. We then walked over the cruise excursion desk and Jake just happened to be there. He took us to where the presentation was to be held, and we obtained three copies of each of the booklets. Just have to see how many of these gifts we can get when in port. See a personal challenge for us here. We had ... read more

We had a lazy start to the day as we have nothing to rush for over the next few days. The clocks went back an hour last night so we are getting closer to the US east coast time zone which is five hours behind UK time. We cleared a few admin tasks. We have had to change the schedule for our proposed UK visit to and wanted to make sure everyone involved was happy with the proposed changes. We also did a little bit of work towards the trip we are organising to Maho Beach when we arrive in St Maarten. We are really not sure how many people will be joining us, but we may find out in the morning as we have asked everyone to pop by and say hello. Around twenty people ... read more

The weather today is getting better, although it is still a bit windy. Last night, we were given details of the first laundry offer for tomorrow. Fill a bag for $19.98. As we have Gold with NCL, we get the bag at half price. We just about managed to fill the bag. We had an early start this morning, so had a quick breakfast in the buffet. This morning, we took part in the behind the scenes tour of the ship taking just under three hours. This included all restricted areas other than the bridge which is off limits. There was a group of 13 of us, and it was all very friendly. We got to see most of the main workings of the ship. A lot of the senior staff members made themselves available to ... read more

It was a bit overcast to say the least when we arrived in Funchal. Norwegian Epic is one of three ships in port today. There is the Mein Schiff and the Fred Olsen Balmoral. It could be a bit busy. At breakfast, George met up with a couple of people he had met at the previous days friends of Bill meeting. One of those lived in the same area that Theresa had grown up. It is a small world really. Prior to the trip, we had looked at the Yellow Bus for whilst we were in Funchal, but had been unable to get confirmation that it was running whilst we are there so we had not booked anything. Whilst on the ship, we had looked at the ship tours for Funchal, and they had a Yellow ... read more

The weather is slightly better this morning, but is still not nice enough to be sat outside on the balcony. We had a leisurely breakfast in the buffet then went for a walk around all of the ship. There were a few hearty souls that had been brave enough to sit outside, but we are used to warmer than this. We stopped and watched a presentation on the making of Japanese food that was very interesting. We also stopped by the medical centre as they were very good to George when he was sick on our last transatlantic. A quick lunch in the buffet was followed by a session of travel blog writing and photo sorting. This afternoon George attended another friends of Bill meeting. There were a lot more people at this one This evening, ... read more

Breakfast as normal was in the buffet and we met some more staff members that we remember from previous cruises. Today we have the Cruise Critic meet and greet in the Bliss lounge. It is always well turned out. It is great to put faces to people we have been talking to on Facebook for the past few months. Also there was another Theresa on board that was collecting postcards for her autistic child. She had asked on Facebook if anyone could help her. At the meet and greet she was presented with a huge pile of them. We think she was a little completely overwhelmed with the response. After the meet and greet we did the gift exchange. This is where people take a small gift from their home country and then receive a gift ... read more

This will be our third transatlantic cruise and second westbound. It has been difficult trying to pre guess what the weather will be like whilst crossing the Atlantic. Another early start, as we wanted to get to the ship early to get a Posh Pass. Not holding out much hope, but being early will give us the best chance. This is a paid for pass to an exclusive luxury bathing area on the top deck. There is a kettle in the room but no tea or coffee, so no hot drinks to start the day. The first tough decision of the day. Last night, we ordered a taxi for our journey to the port. When we got out of the hotel, he was parked on the side of the road waiting for us. 15 minutes early. ... read more
