After deciding that my job wasn't really doing it for me, i made the decision that travelling around South America might be more enjoyable than working. Here are the details of what i am getting up to on my tour...

Places visited: Arequipa (Peru), Chivay/Colca Canyon (Peru), Nazca (Peru), Huacachina (Peru), Paracas (Peru), Huaraz (Peru), Huanchaco (Peru), Mancora (Peru) & Lima (Peru) So, here we are, my final blog - I know, I'm sure you are all gutted. So I write this from my final destination of Lima, struggling to believe that it was just under 6 months ago that i left my job and began my travels back in Oz. Anyway, i can reminisce later on, first i must tell you about the final leg of my journey that got me from Cusco to Lima.... Well, from Cusco I headed south to another of Peru's major cities - Arequipa. Yet another town with a stunning backdrop of a snow covered volcano (I am becoming a bit blase about these sort of things now). Some of ... read more

Places visited: Corioco (Bolivia), Copacabana (Bolivia), Isla del Sol (Bolivia), Puno (Peru), Uros reed islands (Peru), Cusco (Peru) & Machu Picchu (Peru) Having finished my tour in La Paz, and having added much more weight to my already heavy bag i decided that i needed a few days of chill out before i made my way into Peru. So i headed to a small town about an hour from La Paz called Coroico. This was a beatiful place built on the side of a mountain with incredible views of the Bolivian jungle. There was a really nice pace of life here and all the hostels had swimming pools and terraces looking out at the amazing views. Unfortunately the one thing the guide books had neglegted to mention was the abundance of mosquitos and biting flies that ... read more

Places Visited: Santiago (Chile), La Serena (Chile), San Pedro de Atacama (Chile), The Desert (Bolivia), Uyuni (Bolivia), Potosi (Bolivia), Sucre (Bolivia) & La Paz (Bolivia) So the last 18 or so days have been back on another tour, making my up from Chile into Bolivia. It has been strange going back to having someone else organising all the travel and accommodation after the last month or so or travelling by myself, but also nice and stress free. Things kicked off in Santiago, which I found a strange city for a couple of reasons. Firstly the constant low level cloud that seemed to engulf the city and restrict any views (I later found out that this was not actually cloud but in fact smog - nice!!). The second problem i had with the city was the fact ... read more

Places Visited: Puerto Montt (Chile), Puerto Varas (Chile), Bariloche (Argentina), El Bolson (Argentina), Pucon (Chile), Mendoza (Aregentina) & Santiago (Chile) So this part of my trip has seen me fill 4 pages of my passport due to the large number of border crossings i have made. The route that tended to be planned on the spur of the moment with quite a few places added due to recommendations form other travellers may not have been logical, but has given me some great experiences. This part of my trip has also seen me identify 3 potential career paths (Mum & Dad will be so proud) so read on to see some of the great jobs i may be looking into when i get back.... I started with a flight up to a place called Puerto Montt, a ... read more

Places visited: Ushuaia(Argentina), El Calafate(Aregentina), Puerto Natales(Chile) & Punta Arenas(Chile) Having done my first month or so enjoying the sunshine and beaches of Brazil and Northern Argentina, i decided it was time to unpack the fleece and venture to 'the end of the world'... From Buenos Aires I took a flight down to Ushuaia in the south of Argentina. Known as the ‘End of the World’, Ushuaia’s claim to fame is that it is the most southern city on the planet. This means one thing, it is extremely cold!!! As soon as I stepped off the plane you could feel the stark contrast in temperature from the rest of my trip so far. The icy wind, snow capped mountains and chains on tyres let me know it was time to dig out my winter gear. The ... read more

Buenos Aires, what to say?? I have now spent 10 days here in the capital and absolutely love it, it is an incredible city. The weather has been great, the food and wine pretty amazing and the women are what can only be described as easy on the eye. As many people had told me it does have a real European feel to it, making it very easy to feel at home here straight away. We arrived from Uruguay with a few days left on the tour to enjoy Buenos Aires. So this gave me the opportunity to do a city tour and get to see the major sights and learn my bearings in the city. Then that evening we went off to a tango lesson and show, which whilst quite touristy was actually really enjoyable ... read more

Places Visited: Ilha Grande (Brazil), Paraty (Brazil), Iguasu Falls (Brazil/Argentina), Salto (Uruguay), Montevideo (Uruguay), Colonia (Uruguay) & Buenos Aires (Argentina). So, i have just completed my first trip, 17 days of seeing the sights from Rio to Buenos Aires, from Cachasa to Medio Medio to some rather nice Vino Tinto and steak, i have had a chance to sample all the local offerings... I have had an amazing time, and i can´t believe it has been less than a month since i left, already feels like i have been here for ages. The trip kicked off with a few days on Ilha Grande, which is a paradise island just off the coast close to Rio. No cars, idyllic beaches, a really relaxed pace of life and enough stray dogs to keep a Korean BBQ going for ... read more

Well it has only been a week, but what a week!! Places Visited: Rio de Janeiro It may surprise you to learn that i have actually endured about 5 days of on-off Thunderstorms and rain in Rio. But before you start reaching for the violins i should also point out that when it rains here, the temperature has remained in the mid 20s, and following the showers we tend to then get engulfed in blazing sunshine. So the hotel i was staying at in Rio was certainally at the basic end of low cost accommodation. I was in a 5 bed dorm that had been crammed into a room that was just about big enough for one. then there were the showers where you actually felt cleaner before you went in. Questions began to arise in ... read more

Countries visited: Australia, Singapore. So it has been almost a month since I left work and i'm beginning to feel pretty relaxed (obviously ignoring the impending doom of not having a job and spending all my savings). I have been out for a quick trip down under to get me into the travelling mood (I can definately recommend it). Went to an awesome wedding in Palm Beach, and even managed to recover from some serious englishman's sunburn and now look a bit tanned - perfect preparation for Rio! So now i'm back in the (very wet) UK for final preparations and then off to Rio on Friday for a bit of carnival action. I will try and keep everyone updated at suitable points during the trip. Cheerio and see everyone in July Charlie... read more
