The other three girls left that morning and they offered us there room for one night as it was already paid for. I had a hot shower for the first time in 2weeks and it felt great. Another lazy day and a 2hour swim with Amy and Warwick at the beach. I updated my blog and sat in our air-conditioned room. We finished off the last bit of our hot chook from the shops 2days before with a couple of big salad sandwiches for our first meal for the day at 2:00 in the arvo. Out to dinner to dinner that night and I keen on getting some more Tempura vegies.... read more

Three taxi utes and only 300THB later and we got home and woke up with a headache and server dehydration. I didn’t leave the room the whole day and only got up by necessity. I couldn’t even get up to go for a swim and I knew that would of made me feel better. I managed to get enough energy to go out to dinner with everyone. I wish we were able to take some photo’s of last night and for obvious reasons we left the camera hidden back at the bungalow. I did download a couple of photos from the net just to show people.... read more

It ended up being a lazy day and we went for another swim and settled in for the afternoon on the veranda. We were very undecided about our plans for New Years Eve and with everyone else going to the Full Moon party we just couldn’t get excited about the whole thing. We were also worried about spending the money to get in and back as it was 40min drive in the back of the ute taxi and not to mention the over inflated drink prices. We had another great chicken sandwich for dinner and with the carcase going to a visiting friendly stray hungry dog . We each had a Sang Som and coke in our hand (Rum drink) and ended up speaking about the pros and cons of going to the full moon party ... read more

Still dark, and we woke very early in the morning to a man 30m away banging on the front door and yelling and at full noise “RACHEL LET ME IN!” bang, bang, bang “RACHEL LET ME IN!” This went on for half an hour or so and he must of done something REALLY bad because she never let him in. HEAVER NEXT DOOR Just as I got back to sleep, there was a man in the bungalow beside us vomiting and throwing up profusely, he obviously had too much to drink that night. When all the DOOF DOOF music had finished and the morning air was still it sounded like he was throwing up in our bathroom instead of his. This went on for another half hour and you could tell he was in allot of ... read more

Today was a rest day and time to catch up on planning our trip to Cambodia, Lao and book our plane tickets for India. After 2 hours I found that Air India could take us to Kolkota or as we know it Calcutta. With all airlines charging around $450AUD each we managed to get them for $100AUD each “what a bargain!” But I’m sure we will pay for it down the track when we fall out of the sky and crash, or we may be riding in the cargo hull with all the chooks for that price. We also sat around and caught up with other fellow travellers to get great tips to other countries we are going to visit. We already have so many people offering a bed to stay in when we get to ... read more

With a later start than what we wanted we got to the Grand Palace at 10:00, we hesitated on paying the 700THB entry fee for both of us and hoped it was worth the $22 AUD. We walked through the main walls and I was stopped from going any further as I was wearing shorts and required long pants. 10min later and 100THB deposit I walked out wearing a pair of long purple pants. Within 10 meters of entering the Palace entrance we knew it was worth the money we hesitated paying. The temple cannot be explained by words, photos can’t even get close to its beauty and the only thing spoiling the Grand Palace was the huge amount of visiting people and tourist. It was tuff to get any photos without half a dozen people ... read more

I woke up around 7:00 and gave Jacinta her present, a kiss on the forehead and a merry Christmas, she was happy and returned the same present. Ready to tackle Bangkok head on, we made an earlier start and headed to MBK’s in a Tuk Tuk. I needed a camera battery and we checked out the clothes. For those of you that are not familiar with MBK’s it is a huge shopping centre with 6 floors of shops. It was business as normal for Bangkok and we negotiated our way to the Grand Palace Emerald Buddha or to the locals Wat Phra Kaew. Little did we know it was closed at 3:00 so we caught a Tuk Tuk to the standing Buda, sitting Budda and finished off the day speaking to everyone on Skype and had ... read more

It only just occurred to me that it was xmas eave and it does not feel like xmas. I had a great sleep last night and there was defiantly more leg and this time, there was a place to store our packs so we didn’t have to sleep with them again. We were worried about sleeping because the amount of noise, shaking and swaying from the carriage just before bed was crazy. I’m not sure if the track condition had got better or the train slowed down but it improved 100% by the time everyone was in bed. I just inspected the train toilet and they are very clean and tidy, I only feel sorry for the railway workers who repair the railway lines because everything spills right onto the tracks below. If you take into ... read more

A late start again and we were in no hurry to rush out into the streets again. We had to re-pack our back packs and that takes around ½ hour just to organise what you need to get you through the night train. It made was made worse by the room being so small and we really couldn’t spread things out. Off to Kapitan’s for breaky at 11:30 and we had some prathra bread and curry dipping sauce. A quick bus trip to the ferry jetty and back to Butterworth train station only 100m from the jetty. The tickets for second class from Butterworth to Bangkok only cost us 104 ringits each around $30 Aus. They had an old retired steam locomotive parked out the side that I was more than happy to climb in, over ... read more

We hired a motorbike first thing for 25ringits. Our mission was to ride around the Island of Penang. When you hire a motorbike in Asia the petrol tank is always empty, the reason is they siphon out any fuel left over after the hire so they can put it in there bike. So when the bike says empty it really means empty. Most of the time you just have enough fuel in the carburettor to get you to the first petrol station. We have been caught out before and it’s no fun trying to find a petrol station pushing your bike. With Jacinta on the back we headed out with the chaotic traffic. It was pretty scary at first as there are people driving and riding everywhere, horns tooting and people walking in front of you. ... read more
