I ended having a great sleep and Jacinta ended up sleeping for 13hours straight and I let her sleep because she was so tired the day before. It gave me a chance to catch up on my share trading anyway. She finally woke up and we decided to get a Tuk tuk into China town to have a look around and also to buy myself a compass and a watch from when I drowned it back on Ko Phangan. At first it drove me crazy not having a watch but after awhile I got used to it and began to except that I really didn’t need to know the time at all. It’s the longest I’ve ever gone without needing the time and the only reason I bought a watch was for the alarm to get ... read more

We were dropped off at Koh San road at 5:00 in the morning and walked to our guest house The Phiman Water View in the dark. Another couple could not find the hotel because of its concealed alley ways and because we stayed here last time they follow us there. We were ready to settle in on the water edge until check in but a Thai man came out and said we have a room ready for you, 400THB per night and we didn’t even think to ask if checked in early would we have to pay for the whole night. It turned out that we did and we couldn’t believe how stupid we were for not asking in the first place. We must have been tired and it cost us 400THB for a 2hour sleep. ... read more

Back on the boat early again and I forgot to wish my beautiful sleeping wife Happy anniversary before I left. We were heading out to Chumporn pinnacle again this time armed with an underwater camera. We jumped in and the Vis was 18m and very very clear, we descended down into the clear blue deep as and taking photos all the way down to 27m again to start our dive and slowly spiralling our way up around the reef. It was hard to see any colours from that depth and the light was rather poor from an overcast day but we all tried our best to the perfect pictures possible. Once again we meet up with the local bull shark that roams this reef and it was impossible to get decent shot in the dark water. ... read more

Back to the jetty at 7:30 for our 6th dive, we motored out to shark island only 200m of the south eastern mainland point. Part of our training would include a deep water dive, so we suited up and jumped in. We all gave the OK and submerged into the deep, we got 10m down and we still had no visual of the bottom, 15m and the bottom came into view. We settled on the bottom at 27m deep and Jean Michel had showed us a colourful card that had allot of reds and oranges whilst on the boat, when viewed deep under water all the reds and oranges had turned to a bluish colour. The reds and oranges are the first colours you lose when diving at deeps greater than 12m. He also gave us ... read more

We got up at 7:30 to catch the boat, I had another shit night sleep because my neck still has not recovered from previous travels and the excitement of the dive got the better off me. Today was a dive at Chumporn Pinnacle around 6km offshore 30m deep but we only dived to 18m. It was great to see all the fish including big potato cod, groper, barracuda, trevally, angel fish, bat fish, clown fish, trigger fish, parrot fish and the list goes on. The largest fish we saw in the water was a 2.5m Bull shark and it was impressive to see the size and power of such a graceful animal. This Visibility was around 15m and there were allot of divers in the water training. It was different to the last dives and the ... read more

8:30 start with theory again at Asia Dive and we learnt about decompression sickness and the effects of oxygen and nitrogen at pressure under water. Basically we breathe 21% Oxygen or O2 and 78% Nitrogen or N and 1% other gasses. If you go down 10m deep you double the pressure you will breathe so it adds to 42% O2 and 156% N and if you dive to 30m you take in 63% O2 and 234% N. There is more to it than that but basically your whole body becomes saturated with Nitrogen because we don’t use it. Nitrogen under compression saturation or builds up in our skin and tissue and if you stay down to long the Nitrogen builds up so much that you have to make a slow accent to give the Nitrogen bubbles ... read more

We started our theory at 8:30 in the morning and reviewed last night’s answers. One of the Irish fella’s that was doing the course with us tick yes to Asthma and even though he had no had an attack for 10 years they ended up not letting him dive. By 12:30 we were going through all the dive gear and in 30min we were in the pool going through basic techniques and safety drills. We finished in the 3m deep pool after 4hours and I felt great and ready to get wet in the ocean. I found all the drills very easy and comfortable, out of three of us one had trouble with everything and we continuously waited for him to get everything right. It didn’t matter because I was happy just being on the bottom ... read more

We caught the fast boat over to Koh Tao and the trip lasted around 2 hours. We stood at the back of the boat just in case Jacinta got sea sick as she was ill yesterday on the boat. A lady came outside in the last half hour and had a private moment over the edge of the boat. Jacinta asked me to have a look how far away we were from the mainland, I stuck my head out to get a clear view of our path and my hat caught the wind and blew off in the ocean, Dam dam dam. We turned up at the jetty and it was great not to have to worry about transport to the hotel as my dive package included transfers. You are always bombarded by taxi drivers wanting ... read more

We were at jetty at 5:00am. I had broken sleep all night and the only real position I called comfortably remain in was straight on my back with my arm draping down beside the life Jackets I was lying on. Everything was hurting and stiff and my neck muscles where that sore that I had to take Nurofen for the headache. A little Thai man held a sign up for everyone one our bus and within minutes we were taking off at break neck speed down the highway for our visa run to the Malaysian border. It was almost impossible to sleep in the van and we felt every bump sitting in the back. On the way we stopped at several places and on one place we pulled out from the parking lot and the guy ... read more

It’s our last day in Koh phangan before we have to do our visa run back to the border. Jacinta did a Silver smithing course for the day and it only cost 1500THB. She made a really nice ring and had a great time with Amy doing the course. I spent the day getting free Wifi across the road from the café until the heavens opened up and I had to seek cover. Oh well I was hungry anyway so I didn’t feel so guilty getting Wifi in the shop because I had lunch there. I caught up on my blog, shares, accommodation in India, flights and everything else I needed to get us through the next few days. and the day flew passed. The visa run consisted of catching the boat overnight to the ... read more
