Sunday was recovery day and my feet deffffinnintely needed it! We organised the camping gear, packed up and first thing Monday morning we took the 3 hour drive to Barn Hill. This place is magic and even better, it allows dogs. mia and I totally roughed it in our swags but it made it all the more fun. Mia and vegemite stumbled across some rock pools and my favourite part of the trip was lounging around in these. Vegemite kept both of us entertained trying to dig out rocks and we were happy to be away from the millions of brown jellyfish that were floating around in the ocean. We had the entire unpowered section of the c.p to ourselves and the outdoor bathrooms were our very own. The only bad thing was that Vegemite got ... read more

We woke pretty early on Saturday and got straight into organsing the brunch. We thought a big day at the races deserved a big cookup. We had mountains of food, all the usual crew turned up before we downed a few Pink's stapped on the high heels and braved the sun. We were ready for the Picnic Races! Unfortunately, no one had much luck in the winning department but we all had lots of fun. When the running races started I had consumed just enough champagne to think it was worth entering so I kicked off my heels and headed for the starting line. We ended up running the race twice, yes someone decided to break and due to the SCORCHING hot ground I ended up with a ginormous blood blister on my toe- opps. That ... read more

Mia and I were geared up for a big Derby weekend. We thought we'd better start it with a small road trip to see Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek. We left Derby just after 9.30am on Friday and we arrived at Windjana close to midday. We had the entire place to ourselves - a very different experience for me, since the first time I went the place was abuzz with tourists. It was a bit eeery walking through in the heat of the day with no one else around. We did have the equivilent July tourist population in birdlife, and they kept us company with their cocophany of chatter. In total, we spotted about 10 crocs cooling themselves in the shallows and it was lovely to be back in such different circumstances. Next stop- Tunnel Creek. ... read more

It's stinking hot and about 23million percent humidity. That can only mean one thing - it's nearly the end of the year! As my excitement for a Perth summer of fun builds, I feel unbelievelby lucky to have had sun, surf (ok mud) and sea for the entire year. The October school holidays were no exception and the next few blog entries tell the tales behind my ongoing Kimberly adventures. Mia and Jarrad came to visit me and we saw more of this spectacularly beautiful country. Late morning on Sunday October 2nd was when Mia and Jarrad's plane landed at Broome airport. After the usual hugs and general jumping/hand clapping we beelined it for Matso's, Cable Beach and Divers Tavern. I had sorted some backpacker accomodation and it was pretty crappy but we survived to tell ... read more

Camp officially began Wednesday morning but of course nothing school work related really got done before that. I was just as excited as the kids and when the bus rolled out of Derby; I felt sure it was going to be a great trip. Our accomodation was St. Mary's High School rec room floor. It sounds horrible sleeping in one room with 20 children but it was a fabulous bonding time. We spent a total of 4 hours at Cable Beach learning (term used loosely as the instructor was hopeless) 2 sessions later and most of the kids were able to stand up by the end of it. They thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, as did I. The other activities we planned were also embraced whole heartedly by the class. The Amazing Race through Broome Boulevard Shopping ... read more

It had been a loooonnnng week so by 2:30pm Friday arvo I was on my way to Broome for a much needed getaway. Vegemite was having such a lovely time when I dropped him off for his sleepover that he didn't even say goodbye! That made me feel less like a bad mother for leaving him. I arrived in Broome just after 5 and headed to Broome Beach Resort to meet up with the girls. Caitlyn and I walked down to Cable Beach to watch the sunset before picking up some drinks for the bbq. After a feast of sausages, gourmet salads and kangaroo burgers we made our way to Diver's Tavern for a groove. We were amazed that the band stopped playing at 11pm though. It seemed a bit silly to stop the music just ... read more

YAY! Friday got here pretty quickly this week and at least half the town left Derby for Broome's Shinju Festival. I stuck around for a soon to be annual event (ok slight exaggeration). We went to Prue's place for the barbeque to end all bbq's. The food was magnificent. I will have food dreams about it for along time to come. Unfortunately, we had gathered to farewell our good mates Nat and Corey. Derby will be a different place for me without them. After we couldn't fit another thing in, we arrived at the Boab Inn where localish band Red Soil was playing. We were all in fine form thanks largely to Prue's addiction to Pink (the sparkling variety). Caitlyn's birthday was to begin at midnight and we had dressed for the occassion. Week 6 sped by and I can't remember much, apart from feeling totally exhausted and put out about the fact that the weather was making the kids act feral. The weekend was a welcome relief. Friday night was going to be a Sporty's Special but that was not to be since the only thing on the menu was a meat platter which consisted of a ginormous chop, a sausage and a piece of chicken. We were with 2 veggies and it was no surprise that this was not an apetising combo to them. We took our hungry tummies to the Spini where we had to wait ages for our meals. I got the salt and pepper squid which was sensational and well worth the hour wait. After dinner we met a stack of people at the ... read more

Thank God week 5 is done and dusted. It was always goinng to be a massive week but I feel like I'm been hit by a truck. Monday morning 6.15am I wake to hear men outside my bedroom window. "That's odd" thought I, as I peered through the blinds. Painters had arrived to paint my entire house- inside and out. As my luck would have it, I had just finished my weekly clean (in a hungover state - which made it all the more difficult) and they were about to ruin it with dirtydrop sheets and the smelly varnish. Boo hiss! The other slap in the face was that my Med student guest arrived at 7:30am and had to negotiate the new, not welcoming interior that was my newly messed up house. I am making it ... read more

Last weekend I hit the Boab to farewell Kate and was entertained by Broome band Phat Monkeys. Saturday was pretty normal apart from the few finishing touches to my costumes. I had to create a T getup for my Taryn party and a H costume sensation to go with my school function. My bike appropriate, Tellietubby costume, was relatively lame but my Hangover idea was solid. I had the berrocca, panadol packet, meat pie wrapper, bottle of water, crazy hair and bucket accessories all sorted. At 4pm I left home for Tour de Fridge. Our first stop was the Spinni for the minimum 2 drinks before departure. Then we received a Police escort (a cop was also at the party) to our next mandatory location. After some more drinks (jelly shots), nibbles and giggles we carefully ... read more
