Dad, the title of this blog is dedicated to you and all the energy you spent pushing us on the swings many years ago. I now know how it feels. I tried out the classic method of grabbing their feet and counting to 3 before pushing them away. The line was 10 kids long before the first kids got off. I can even count to three in Khmer now just because of this game... muoy, be, bi (obviously the spelling is wrong but this is how it sounds). Today I was given my offical timetable. This is wonderful news becasue I only have to spend 1 hour in the mornings with the ltittle kids!!! I know this sounds horrible but really, I am so bored I just don't think I could handle a month of nursery ... read more

Yesterday went smoothly. I taught all morning and successfully avoided the babies until the afternoon. Thank you to everyone for your wonderful suggestions for activities and song ideas with the little ones. I have to admit I will need to google some of the lyrics to 'refresh'my out of shape brain. I also taught social studies, reading extension and today was much the same. Tonight I am taking one of Panha's night classes (5.30-7pm) so that we can all go out for a meal. It is Owen's last week and we will not have another chance to do this as a group. His night class is made up of kids ranging in ages from 4.5-9yrs. What the!!! I will just have to do my best. The big fundraising event is getting closer and things are really ... read more

I am now the offical sticker lady at school. When we went to the O Russei market on Saturday I stocked up and today was my day rewarding good manners and behaviour with them. They were a big success although slightly distracting. Today was really full on due to the fact that I had to spend the day with the really little kids aged between 1 and a half and 3. It was exhausting and I am completely sung out. Carrie, I desparetly need some new suggestions for songs. All that came to my mind was Old McDonald, Little teapot and the like. Last night we strolled a few blocks to a local restaraunt called Khmer Kitchen. It's in Lonely Planet and it was brilliant. We sat upstairs on cushions and soaked up the atmosphere. sue est te- hello! After an eventful two days of teaching the weekend had finally arrived. We eagerly awaited the last child to be collected and then it was off to change (no point showering just to get sweaty again) then climbed aboard a tuk tuk bound for the FCC or Foreign Correspondance Club with a magnificant view overlooking the river on 'tourist street'. Two jugs of Ankor beer later we zipped around the corner to an Indian place - a favourite amongst the other volunteers. We were back well before cerfew with full tummies and plenty of laughs shared. The school is holding its first ever fundraising day next Saturday and the place is abuzz with lists of things to do, make and buy. This morning we trapsed through a local market with a student ... read more

Arrival was smooth and although tired I was pumped to finally be here. I was met at the end of the ramp that connects the plane to the airport with a man holding a sign reading ' CHLOE POND'. I felt like Angelina Jolie for a tenth of a second before he vanished into thin air. I rejoined the rest of the crowd heading towards customs. My NGO Visa was there- hence the vanishing man and is valid for 3 months so will def try to make the most of the time. Arrived at school via tuk tuk. Phillipe (deputy director and french volunteer here with his gf for 1 year) was there to greet me and along the way we chatted about the school, staff and travelling in general. The flat and the other volunteers ... read more

You all knew this entry was missing. So on a quiet, hot Saturday in PP, almost one month on I have time to record the events of that wonderful night. We began with pre-drinks at Sorrento, taxied it into Leederville just in time to pop into The Garden for a birthday drink with Kat. Then it was a short hop, skip and a jump into the Hippy Club (well for one person who shall remain nameless there was a minor delay in getting past the bouncer and through the door). Plenty of fun was had by all. Many danced til the wee hours of the morning, Mia piked it but we continued dancing for her. Zoe was very popular with the boys and even received a personal escort out of the venue. Carrie deserves many honorable ... read more

So before leaving I had to spend a few days on my beloved Rottnest Island. Captain J-Rad took us over on Amnesia - a slightly rough ride. Once we arrived we got down to business and opened some drinks. There were plenty of laughs and good times had by all. Lisa and I stayed on while the others headed back to the mainland on Monday arvo. The weather was perfect and we were glad of our trusty push bikes. We swam, ate and drank. The perfect Australia Day weekend. Thanks to all who made it a ripper!... read more

A heart warming experience that Iwill never forget. As I got out of the car a little boy attached himself to my leg. Not out of loneliness, but because he was excited. The kids were so welcoming, some of the older girls showed us around and chatted to us about life and their prospects for the future. There was real positivity in their words. I was worried it would be hard to leave, but it wasn't. I left feeling inspired and motivated about my travels and about what I am embarking on.... read more
